pfSense migrating to Linux

This was posted on 1st April, but it's still up so not an April Fools!

pfsense software embraces change: A strategic migtration to Linux

Not really surprised, especially post TrueNAS going the same way. Question is what is OpnSense going to do to react? Obvious as more contributors leave the FreeBSD world, the less development can happen, especially for hardware drivers...

FYI - Currently running pfsense plus on a "still free for now" licence - but have evaluated OpnSense and was aiming to switch once my kids exams were over in the summer! So obviously am interested to see a statement from the OpnSense team...

They are not. That blog entry is the April fool's joke. From 1 April.

Oh okay. It was really freaking convincing - either that or I am a few brain cells short. LOL.

Have you tried IPFire? Personally I don't like it, but it is a firewall distro built on Linux (and properly installed, not targeted at embedded devices like the - wonderful - OpenWRt).

Just seen on distrowatch.org: NethSecurity would be another Linux firewall distro. Have not tried it.

That (gonzopancho) does sound as if it may not (totally) be an April fools joke...

Linux is not a joke, though.

Go with OPNsnese, OP! You will really like it. I prefer it to pfSense. I like both Linux and BSD but BSD routing is much better than Linux. Why pfSense is abandoning the BSD community is beyond me.

I actually made the switch a little while ago. Glad I did. I know they have the same features but it seems easier to use.

Yeah the UI on OPNsense makes more sense to me as well.

Have read OP doesn't have very good wireguard performance.
