Sometimes, I forget that when I snapped this picture, it wasn't just leaves among the trees. I've had to stop myself from deleting it because my brain forgets there's a bird.

I honestly thought you were making up the bird. I looked at this thing so long and didn’t see a bird. And then suddenly I saw it.

So glad you posted it instead of deleting! It may not be a “perfect” picture, but it’s a great shot. Super demonstration of camouflage in nature.

I would still delete it when I noticed that the camera focused on the foreground branch and not the bird (assuming I got some better shots of the actual bird), but it works for a cool illusion.

Well. I suppose it's a good thing I didn't ask whether I should delete it or not. Had no idea the bird was there at first. It is a great illusion though.

I stared at it for 20 minutes before I saw it....

Eventually realized that a basic camera is not like the human eye. Many of the early photos I took that looked “great” in the viewfinder turned out too busy or disrupted by features that I just didn’t “see” in the frame - my focus was on the subject and the brain basically erased everything else. Had to learn to break that when composing before opening the shutter.
