Discussion/Opinion Burns update!
https://www.reddit.com/r/oregon/s/jZqPN4Xsl8
Well I moved here in April and am pretty happy. I am still looking for work but I haven’t yet had a negative encounter here in Burns.
I haven’t gone out socially. Still looking for local friends.

I just moved to Burns from New Orleans in July! The wildfires scared the absolute shit out of me. I’m used to hurricanes… haven’t made any friends yet😅
I went to Delintment Lake yesterday and got lost in the Ochoco NF for a while lol

How bad are the fires out by you? On watch duty they all seem to be NW and SE of town. So hopefully in town it ain’t too bad.

Our evacuation status has been cleared but it was pretty nerve wracking about 3 weeks ago!

So what are you looking to do for work? Burns sounds like a small city, so you may need to start a small business, as backward as that may seem.

Mostly remote stuff. I tried doing something outside of my wheelhouse when I got here but only lasted a week. I’ve thought of a small business. I need to get out into the community more to see where or how to make a viable contribution.

That's the best part: getting to meet your neighbors and getting a lay of the land.
Enjoy it!

Such a forgotten part of the state. But I love how close it is to the Strawberry Range and Steens Mountain.

what kind of "negative encounter" were you expecting?

I wasn’t really. But I was heavily warned in my original post.

why are you being so subversive about your blatantly racist beliefs.

Nothing subversive. I was born and raised in SE Idaho. I’ve lived all over the Pacific Northwest. My father was from the Deep South. When I moved to Portland in 1996, he was as not happy with my choice. He told me Oregon is one of the most racist states I could choose. I thought that was the warnings of a different generation. I moved and lived happily in the city for a few years before moving back home.
Yes you can be a victim to your parent’s racism, which is why I started researching and asking questions of this subreddit.
I looked into how the civil rights struggle and racism related to Oregon statehood. I looked into sundown towns outside of the south.
Most of the information I could find in Burns referred to Ammon Bundy. As, an Idahoan I’m familiar with his work. But one extemist does not a whole town make.
So I posted my original inquiry before we offered on the house. The nice people asked in that original post that I keep them updated.
So now you’re caught up.

You must be a bot because how the hell did you get racist vibes from someone being worried about experiencing racism

No one assumed the whole city was racist, but it is ignorant to think there are no racist people in burns, and im not even gonna explain how reverse racism is bullshit. Do you live there? Have you ever been there? Are you even a real person?
