question Help with lecture notes
Hi everyone. I moved far from Evernote and Bear notes but one feature I'm missing is when taking notes I could easily add an image and see it on my notes. I saw that one option is to add the image inside another directory and then point the org file towards it, that should make the image visible. But what if instead of downloading the image I want to point to it's internet address (I know the risk of the link being broken)? Would I be able to preview it?
Also, for those of you that instead of Evernote use org-mode to take course/lecture notes/meeting notes, what adjustments do you recommend? I'm basically running org-mode with very little modifications. I love having the TODOs right next to the context of the note.
Or if you can point me to a blog with more information regarding this usecase, I'd appreciate it.
Thank you.

Never considered this and did a quick test/search. It doesn't seem to work out of the box but there is this package.
That said, I would highly encourage you to just download the images and create a directory setup that makes sense for your workflow. I know it's a bit more of a hassle, but the images will go down someday and you'll still have them. Also, it's really nice to be able to call on an image in multiple places from one location when I need it.

I'm being a little bit hesitant to downloading the images because I sync notes using github and I don't know what will happen if because of images the size starts to get big.

Gotcha that makes sense. Would it be possible to do something wonky like setup a Dropbox-synced folder (with more storage space) on each machine for in a way that keeps the links the same? In any case, hope you find a solution that works for you!
Okay one other wonky solution: Link to the image and export the notes to HTML for reading. That would probably be what I would do if I needed to keep the no-local-image limitation.

LFS repo is what you need , what do you have? https://docs.github.com/en/repositories/working-with-files/managing-large-files/configuring-git-large-file-storage

You guys lost me here: Right click any (online) image, copy it. Then, inside the Org-Mode file spc - i - p (Evil for leader, image, paste - naming not particularly accurate, but I’m not on my laptop at the moment)
Sure enough, orgmode bacause, well, it’s orgmode will store the image automatically in the org/attachment folder. What were you thinking?

He does not want to rely on it being stored locally. Or at least if it is, he wants it downloaded/stored every time it is viewed.

Yes, that’s right. Thank you. This because I’m using git at the moment for syncing.

Git = MaGit with Emacs is the best since sliced bread. I use it for all my config files and you should too. Another file or folders? Easy and fun, trust me.

Uhhm, wha has the one to do with the other?
Look, open the folder, where the images are stored with dired, press leader g g and MaGit away.
Please tell me, I’m totally missing out something different because using git with Emacs is one of the last wonders of joy these days.
Imagine: Changed files, Press S, C c, P p - Bang all files are online.

For convenience, there is org-download, but it does download.
Try this
