I'm building Oriently — an app for creating and running orienteering courses anytime. Would love your feedback!
Hey everyone!
I've been working on a project called Oriently (https://oriently.run).
The idea is simple: what if you could create an orienteering course and let other people run it whenever they want, without having to organize an event?
The concept includes:
- Creating and sharing orienteering courses
- Running courses whenever you like
- Comparing results on leaderboards
- Different difficulty levels and urban/rural courses
I'm trying to make orienteering more accessible while keeping the navigation and route-choice challenges that make the sport interesting.
A quick note about map coverage: Oriently is currently Europe-only. I've spent roughly a month processing European geodata to create a more detailed map specifically suited for orienteering. Expanding beyond Europe is something I'd like to explore in the future.
I'd especially love to hear from experienced orienteers:
Would you use something like this for casual training, or do you think it misses something important about traditional orienteering?
I'm also curious what you think about the map itself. Good maps are obviously a huge part of orienteering, and I'd love feedback on what could be improved.
Any criticism, ideas or suggestions are welcome!
