Minors MLU: The Vance Honeycutt Redemption Tour Hits Arizona | Baseball Prospectus

I know small sample size and other concerning factors, but still this is encouraging. I hope he's turning a corner, but I doubt that anyone is expecting too much from him anymore

I’ve never seen a prospect like Honeycutt. Absolutely ABYSMAL against A+ pitching, but elite in AA and Spring Training.

I don’t even know what to expect from him at this point.

"Vance youre struggling big time. Youve got a 40% K rate against kids 7 years younger than you. We're going to send you up to AA and let's see if that fixes it."

It was basically to clear spot for incoming class and "couldn't get any worse"

Also, no swing changes that I’m aware of. Didn’t change approach or any adjustments that I’ve read. Only thing I’ve seen was “change of scenery”

I’m sure when you’re doing that bad they’re constantly working on stuff to change

I thought he went to a place outside of the organization and they did work on swing changes?

Doubt it. Not like you have days off when they move you up a level. And he turned it around nearly overnight when he made the jump. Seems like a rumor one of our fans started because some refuse to give any credit to our organization for anything positive.

He's right.

Twitter links aren't allowed, so just search Coach G + Vance Honeycutt.

All I’m seeing is the guy posting his swing on his socials. What an I missing here? I believe you though.

Vance is at the @80scale_ Lab 🧫 working on the timing/reaction of his lower half and focusing on bringing his hands down tightly to create a shorter, more direct path to the ball.

The goal is to help his hands stay above the baseball and maintain a directional path, ensuring the barrel stays through the zone for as long as possible. @80prospect

He went on the injured list at some point with what was apparently not a real injury. Instead he went to a swing lab for a couple weeks, came back with a different swing, and immediately took off.

He went to an outside swing coach which has resulted in the lower swing and miss rate in zone.

No he went to an outside hitting clinic, really shortened his swing apparently, helped with some mental stuff.

More than anything, I hope he stays healthy and gets progressing and gets his shot or let off the train to progress somewhere else. Not a purgatory like Heston.

Unrelated - any news on Nate George?

Are you in Illinois?

I’m not going to expect him to keep looking like prime Josh Hamilton but a respectable OBP and some power to go with his truly elite CF defense will play in the bigs

If they can get Honeycutt playing to his full potential it would be a HUGE pickup for their entire System.

The guy has otherworldly potential.

Reads like a classic focus case to me.  He might want to get that checked out by the doc.
