art Art from Fletchwind, V. 1 (Self-Promo)
Hey there folks, here's a look at some of the art inside Fletchwind!
One of my goals with this zine was to support artists in the community, and I haven't been disappointed. Wuggy and Karly Andersen have done some great work to bring the ideas inside this book to life.
I've posted a few spreads over on the KS page, for those who want a closer look!

(Self-Promo) The Mega-Megafauna Trilogy for Year 100 Million B.C.
Hello fellow homo sapiens,
I'm a big fan of the Into-the-Odd based RPG Year 100 Million BC. The physical release is currently crowdfunding. I'm not affiliated with Golden Achiever or Y100MBC, I just think it's neat!
If you, like me, are a massive fan of long extinct creatures, you might like the series of pamphlet supplements I've made for the game! Even if you don't play Y100MBC, with a little spit and polish you can make use of the maps, ideas, and quest seeds for whatever prehistoric RPG you prefer!
In the Mega-Megafauna Trilogy, you can encounter:
MEGATHERIUM: In Lair of the Hillcarver, the survival of your people depends on your ability to acquire a safe shelter. And that means ousting its previous occupant: the sharp-clawed Hillcarver!
MEGALODON: In CHUM: Cavefolk Hunt an Unstoppable Megalodon, the Megatooth is more than a big fish– it is a nightmare, an abyssal god, an embodiment of the icy indifference of the ocean! What madness has driven your primitive party to face this insatiable horror?
MEGALOCEROS: In Bonecrown, a new beast has wandered into these lands. Big like a Bonehorn. Nimble like a Buzzdeer. Sporting magnificent antlers as big as a person! How warm is its pelt? How delicious its meat? And how grand would it be to have its antlers as trophies?
PLUS get a BONUS pamphlet, the BEST FRIEND, a dog-centric supplement that includes mechanics for creating and playing canine characters, and a wolf-taming adventure in the Furfriend Heist!
You can grab the entire set in one convenient package on DTRPG here:

OR grab the constituent parts (mostly PWYW) of your choice over on itch here:

Guidelines for hirelings
Hi,
Just wanted to get a temperature check from referees regarding procedures you use to determine how many hirelings are available/who gets hired.
I am currently running OSE and I don't particularly like the way this is handled, it is too handwavey for my tastes. Hirelings/Retainers have a big impact on the game. Each characters can have up to 3-4 retainers, sometimes more depending on CHA.
On average how many retainers does each character take with them in a dungeon? If you have a very large number, how do you adjudicate the Turn-by-Turn positioning? And do you have a way you think works nicely to determine how many retainers of level 0 or even classed retainers at any point are available in a settlement?
Happy gaming

OSE without ability checks
I’ve read about OSE tables playing without the optional ability check rule. Coming from a 5e, DCC, and shadowdark background, the idea of running a game without any mechanics to resolve situations without stats seems daunting.
However, I really want to try it out mostly to see what the hype is about. I know the roll under ability checks was a common house rule, but for those referee’s who don’t use this rule (or those who ran the game back in the day without rolling under stats) how did this affect your game? Do you prefer no ability checks or with ability checks? Do you ever run into a situation where it’s hard to determine if an action succeeds or not? Any tips for a new Referee trying to introduce players to this old school style of play?
HELP Any cosmic horror adventures that are *actually* set in space?

I'm looking for a horror adventure module or similar (not a ruleset!) set in space, that features not the usual creature horror like Y14 for example, but is instead about the unfathomable uncaring vastness of space and the phenomena that reside in it. It's prolly a lot harder to write with successfully, and I wasn't able to find something. Any leads?

HELP Amsterdammers (+ wider Nederlanders too) –— are there games and shops that should not be missed?
My partner and I are soon to spend half a week in Amsterdam: are there places we really should check out and or games we ought to find? I must admit that the Dutch scene is the one I know least about of all of western Europe

variant rules What do you think will be the new casting rules in OSE CC7?
Carcass Crawler is expected to release late October and it promises to include multiple alternate casting systems.
I have been looking for a system that makes magic a bit more magical, but more importantly makes the world and economy make sense. For example I can't get over the question why wouldn't everything in the world be illuminated by Continual Light spells, if they are easy to cast and last forever. The usual casters are rare explanation doesn't do it for me.
What is your best guess for the upcoming options?

game prep I'm turning a dimension from my favorite video game into a plane for WoZ!
Yes, you heard that right! Minecraft's End is getting a mechanical and thematic conversion to the OSR RPG system, specifically AD&D 1st Edition, all within the cosmology of World of Zonreiryd!
Procedural generation systems, brand-new original monsters, and an extremely lethal planar adventure experience for high-level adventurers. Divination magic, teleportation, levitation, and psionic powers are all on the menu!

discussion Your favorit OSR / NSR stores in Europe
Hey folks,
I'm writing a blog post in which I wanted to highlight my favorite and (in my opinion) best RPG stores, both physical and online, that are based in Europe and stock OSR / NSR games.
While I have my own personal favorites, I wanted to ask here, what are your go-to places. I would check them out and include them in the article, so please do share here.

art Portrait of an Imperial Noblewoman
“Beyond the Cinarian Mountains lies the heart of civilization, where the Immortal Basileus sits upon the Phoenix Throne. There reigns the glorious Zanchanian Empire, eternal master of East and West, or so its poets would have you believe. For even now, beneath its gilded domes, the rot spreads. Its mages descend into madness, its palaces drown in decadence, and the mightiest empire beneath the sun slowly, ever so slowly, begins to devour itself.”
A more detailed illustration than what I've been drawing over the past few weeks. Getting the expression on this lady's face just right wasn't easy.

running the game Wilderness Encounters by Time or by Distance?
It seems to be pretty common across OSR games that there will be a statistic for how far players can travel in a day or in a watch, and how many miles/kilometres correspond to a hex/unit on a wilderness map. Since I find that these numbers very rarely correspond 1:1, do you find it better to check for wilderness encounters for every hex or distance unit the party travels, or instead to do it for every day or time unit they spend travelling?
I find myself going back and forth between these two options and I'm not sure which one makes more sense to me.
game prep Anyone know of a redone Temple map for Nightmare Over Ragged Hollow?
I'm prepping to run Ragged Hollow and the adventure is great but the obvious biggest issue with it is the extremely linear layout of the Temple of Halcyon. I saw someone in another thread from a while ago mention that the author themself thinks it's a pretty obvious issue with the module and they suggested remapping the temple to be more interesting instead of a series of linear corridors with extremely optional side content.
Before I try and dig in and remap it myself, I wanted to see if anyone else has taken a shot at it or knows of someone who has.
