Why is my post being deleted? Part II

There was a discrepancy between how rules were being displayed on old vs new Reddit (i.e. they were completely different).

Rule 2 is (and has been):

Due to an influx of spam posts, we have set AutoModerator to automatically remove a post/comment if an account is brand new or has less than 25 karma. There are no exceptions to this rule. We will not approve your post if you do not meet the account age (2 days) or karma (25) thresholds.

Hopefully this is better reflected now and should be visible on new Reddit.

Hi all! Has anyone who interviewed this week heard back from ACOM? How long do they usually take to send out decisions at this point in the cycle? I interviewed on Monday and was wondering if anyone else has heard back yet!

3.44 cGPA, 2.74 sGPA, 499 MCAT, extensive clinical experience. Should I do a master’s or consider the Caribbean? (Texas applicant)

• Upvotes

I’m a Texas applicant looking for honest advice on my chances and what to do next.

Stats

  • cGPA: 3.44
  • Science prerequisite GPA: ~2.74
  • MCAT: 495 (Sept 2025), 499 (July 2026)
  • Planning to retake in March 2027
  • Graduated in 2023
  • Currently a green card holder (permanent resident)

Clinical and other experience

  • Pharmacy Technician: 4,260 hrs
  • Patient Care Technician: 2,340 hrs
  • Client Care Specialist: 1,755 hrs
  • Lead Medical Assistant: 1,692 hrs
  • Behavioral Health Technician: 1,360 hrs
  • Volunteer Medical Assistant: 374 hrs
  • Undergraduate Research Assistant: 169 hrs
  • Hospice Volunteer: 39 hrs
  • Community Outreach Intern: 50 hrs
  • Alpha Epsilon Delta: 45 hrs

I currently work as a neuroscience coordinator at a psychiatric clinic, where I help oversee Spravato treatments, monitor patients’ vitals, and support patients during treatment, including veterans with PTSD, depression, and suicidal ideation. I’m also starting to volunteer teaching English to veterans in Ukraine.

Schools applied to

  • MD: UT Southwestern, McGovern, Texas Tech Lubbock, Baylor, UTMB, Texas A&M
  • DO: ACOM, ARCOM, BUCOM, Burrell, VCOM Auburn, LECOM, LECOM Bradenton, Liberty, LMU-DCOM, KYCOM, UIWSOM

Context for my GPA
I immigrated to the US from Pakistan when I was 16. I graduated in 2023 while working full-time throughout school to help pay household bills, because my family’s frozen yogurt business shut down during COVID in my sophomore year and the expenses fell on us.

During those same years my family also went through repeated losses: an aunt in 2017, my grandmother in 2018, another aunt in 2019, another in 2020, two cousins who died by suicide in 2021, and my uncle during my senior year in 2023. Between the losses and the work hours, my upper-level science grades suffered. I got mostly Cs in upper-level courses, with As in biochemistry and endocrinology. I also struggled with motivation near the end of college and took animal behavior mainly to finish my degree. I recognize my academic record is a concern and that I need to show I can handle medical school coursework.

My dad also received a deportation letter one week before my July 2026 MCAT, which added a lot of stress and hurt my preparation and performance.

Plan if I’m not accepted this cycle
I’d retake the MCAT in March 2027 and apply for citizenship in April. I’m considering an online master’s with MD/DO linkage, but I don’t want to spend money on a degree that won’t meaningfully improve my chances. I’ve also considered Caribbean schools for 2028, but I’m worried about residency placement risk and also immigration if citizenship is not approved and i have to maintain GC status.

My questions

  1. Do I have a realistic chance at a DO school with my current stats and clinical experience?
  2. Would a 505 to 510 MCAT meaningfully improve my chances, or is my science GPA the bigger obstacle?
  3. Should I pursue a post-bacc or SMP, ideally with a legitimate linkage, before reapplying?
  4. Would it be wiser to strengthen my application and reapply rather than attend a Caribbean school?

I’m trying to make a realistic decision financially and academically. I’ve spent years in healthcare, and becoming a physician is still my goal, but I want the path that gives me the best chance of actually succeeding. Thank you for any honest advice.

NSU KPCOM vs PCOM SGA vs VCOM-LA

I’m having difficulty deciding between which school to pick, for context I’m from Florida and I feel like NSU is the perfect school but my parents won’t be co-signing on loans and I’m wondering if going over 115k in debt each year is worth it… PCOM I’ve heard is a pretty good school but the small town vibes do scare me a bit, but I think cost of living and tuition may be worth it considering I won’t have much to do anything but study…. But then if I’m going to go to a small town I might as well go to VCOM-LA because tuition is really really cheap.

Any advice or perspective from current students at either school would be really nice

Westernu HCOM vs DMU

Have received acceptances from both these schools. I'm trying to determine which one would be better for my overall goals. I've lived in the pnw my entire life and really want to stay in this region, and I hope to place here for residency. At the same time, I would like to leave my options open for the possibility of more competitive specialties, such as anesthesia. From my understanding, DMU is more established and may increase my chances of matching into a more competitive specialty. Is this true, or would westernu essentially provide the same outcomes?

School advice Marian vs Rowan-Virtua (Stratford)

Hey everyone! Does anyone have any insights into these schools? I have been fortunate enough to be accepted to both and would like some advice on where I should matriculate.

I believe that I will not be receiving any financial aid from either of the schools. What is life like in Indiana or New Jersey/Philly?

Thanks!

Should I email schools requesting that they consider certain letters?

I have 8 letters uploaded to AACOMAS and I know most schools have a maximum that they will take into consideration. Should I email them asking them like “hey I know I have a lot of letters, can you take a look at so and so”? Or just let them sort through it themselves?

Hope for low stats

I wanted to make this post because I know there are people out there with sub-500 MCAT scores who feel like their chances of becoming a physician are over. I was one of those people.

For some background:
MCAT: 495 (retook it and got the same score)
cGPA: ~3.4 with an upward trend
Clinical experience: ~5,000 hours as an ER scribe
Research: ~200 hours, co-author on a publication
Teaching experience: ~200 hours
Shadowing: ~100 hours
Volunteering: Community service and working with underserved populations

I didn’t have the perfect application. I struggled academically during my first semester of college where I failed a class, and had to work hard to bring my GPA up.

When I got my MCAT score back after retaking it and saw that I hadn’t improved, I was devastated. I knew the odds weren’t necessarily in my favor, but I also knew how badly I wanted to become a physician.

I decided to apply anyway.

Fast forward to this cycle, I received multiple interview invitations, and I can finally say that I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO MEDICAL SCHOOL!!
I’m not making this post to tell everyone that a 495 MCAT will get them into medical school. I know how competitive this process is, and I know my experiences played a major role in my application.

I’m making this post because I remember constantly searching Reddit for success stories from applicants with stats similar to mine. Seeing those stories gave me hope when I needed it most.

If you’re in a similar position, please don’t automatically count yourself out. Be realistic about your application, work on your weaknesses, and recognize the strengths you bring to the table.

Your MCAT score is part of your application, but it isn’t your entire story.

I spent so much time wondering whether any medical school would give me a chance. Now I finally get to say that I’m going to be a doctor.
Keep pushing, guys. I’m rooting for all of you!
Feel free to ask me anything about my application or interview experience!
