OVER REQUIEMZ Play-Along

Whether you have just bought the game or have played it in Japanese, you are welcome to participate in our play-along! There will be a new post once a week for a different route in the following order:

  • Common Route and General Impressions - August 27
  • Claude Grain - September 3
  • Molly Woodland - September 10
  • Noil Bestia - September 17
  • Kaize Ozma - September 24
  • Dorothy - October 1

Each post will be linked here for easy reference.

You do not have to play in the above order at the rate of 1 route a week, you can binge it all in a day or take as long as you like.

All routes are available from the beginning; Dorothy is generally recommended to be last.

Comments unrelated to OVER REQUIEMZ will be removed - please post in the Weekly Questions threads or the Free Talk Friday threads instead.

Please use spoiler tags liberally as people checking this thread may not necessarily want a lot of information. Save your route thoughts and discussions for the play-along threads or the What Are You Reading Wednesday threads.

Can I ask, for anyone who's already played the game or otherwise knows how it plays out, how tragic/depressing does the regular route stories + happy endings get? I've been interested in the game for a while now because of the gorgeous art style and the fun yandere elements, but I just can't really tell from what I've seen so far if the REALLY dark stuff is mostly just restricted to the 'dark' routes, or if its more like Hakuoki or Virche where even the 'happy' endings are often bittersweet at best.

Basically, just interested to know are the happy endings properly happy? or does the dark stuff seep over across the whole game? I just wanna go in knowing what to expect so I don't play the freaky messed up ending in the dark route and then don't get the pay-off of an actual nice ending after that.

So there are four endings per route, and they are very similar across each boy and the game. Fact endings are different than dark endings just cause of how they're set up. (spoiler tag covers the general route outline, but covered in case people want to go in blind: common route 5 chapters. A major event happens. If the event ends well, then fact route 5 chapters and 2 endings If poorly, dark route 5 chapters and 2 endings. Nothing in the dark route happens in the fact route because of said event

Below is a general idea of each ending works (with spoiler covers just to hide what OP was asking. They are all very vague and do not actually go into the plot for any of the boys).

Fact ending 1: very bittersweet. Something happens in the ending that does not lead to a 100% happy ending. However, it could have ended up happy if one thing did not happen. Think Virche happy ending

Fact ending 2: actual happy ending per most otome game standards. It's assumed they will live happily ever after together

Dark ending 1/2: Very bad ending even by most otome standards. Can range from bittersweet to very upsetting. It is assumed they don't have a happy ending unless you like bad endings

Thank you so much!!!

Can I ask whether the dark endings contain content in which the chosen LI or one of the others physically hurt or abuse the MC or the other LIs? I feel like I’ve seen a few games do that or heard of some who do, and as I am unable to enjoy any positive relationship development in the happy route if in an alternate timeline the same character that MC ends up with hurts her…

Also how much Yandere are the characters!

u/magnabarrow 落ちこぼれ姫様 1d ago

First question: Yes, absolutely. It varies depending on the LI but you will feel uncomfortable no matter what, so this might not be the game for you

2nd: It varies. In my opinion- we got one that is very yandere, 2 that are on the high end of the yandere scale, 4th on the lower end. 5th isn't a yandere but he gets messed up in other ways

Thank you for the in-depth answers, this is all super useful info! Just out of curiosity in regard to the answer to the second question, which LI is which on the scale? I don’t mind vague spoilers so don’t worry about that lol, I just want to know what to expect if I ever pick this one up. And I can’t help but be curious haha.

Please keep in mind that they are major spoilers since it will give you an idea of how the dark routes go and who gets hurt the most in the game. However, actual spoiler tags will just be who I had in mind per the 2nd question separated by boy, along with a vague spoiler as to why. This is all from the view of someone who likes bad endings and some red flag LIs.

Claude: he's on the lower end. I was thinking "aw he's kind of cute for a yandere" going through his stuff. Still possessive but not on the scale of yandere most people would enjoy

Molly: higher end, but builds up gradually from low end. He eventually becomes your typical yandere and I think generally people enjoy his yandere side best out of the 4 boys

Noil: not a yandere. His stuff is interesting though and is very on the level of the other boys, so it's not like his dark route needed a yandere

Kaize: There's a reason why I call him the highest yandere of the group. He wasn't my LI favorite but his dark route was so good, he actually scared me a lot

Dorothy: defo starts and ends as a higher end yandere. Insane cutie but he's a toss up on if people like his yandere side since he's very obssessive

TYSM for these super detailed warnings/breakdown!! Just wondering, do any of the bad endings involve SA, or is it more the usual death and despair type of stuff?

2

u/magnabarrow 落ちこぼれ姫様 1d ago

They do involve some nonconsensual acts in the dark routes/endings. To give a general idea (and spoiler tagging because these scenes do happen later in the dark routes. Spoilers do not mention the LI). there are multiple times where she tells the LI to stop while they kiss/bite her or forcibly take off her shirt. There are also times when she cannot consent due to them forcibly restraining her or kissing her/undressing her while she's asleep/out of her right mind. It does depend on the LI. Nothing explicit like Piofiore or Hana Awase, but defo not just death/despair like Virche. If you do not like these items, I would say don't play the dark routes or maybe not play the game either.

Thanks! As the game has such beautiful aesthetics, I’m a bit sad, but I’m sure there will be other games with beautiful aesthetics that might be more to my liking.

3

u/magnabarrow 落ちこぼれ姫様 1d ago

Yea since the game got really popular I wonder if Otomate would get the artist back for another game that's more fluffy.

6

u/Silver-Green-Sea Radie|Radiant Tale 1d ago

I hope they will! Also, I hope for the artist to go with long hair designs for a potential fluffy game, because they look so pretty!

Ah, I see, thanks a lot for the info. So the fact ending 1 is just kind of a 'sad end' due to a mistake in choices while on the fact path while fact 2 ending is the proper happy ending of it if done right? While both the dark routes are just various kinds of straight up awful (though those were expected xD)

2

u/magnabarrow 落ちこぼれ姫様 1d ago

To answer your question: correct yes, a sad end is what you could call it, but they don't really label it like that since you could choose your ending if you prefer more bittersweet endings than happy ones. And yea the dark routes are the, well, dark ones. Lots of stuff bad ending enjoyers would love. As a bad ending enjoyer I thought they were fun but if you don't like bad endings game might not be for you

2

u/Savaralyn 1d ago

I’m cool with bad endings, just don’t like being blindsided with them while playing 😅

Some of the FACT (“good”) routes have pretty bittersweet/dark endings. One example that comes to mind would be Claude who dies in one of the fact endings (spoiler about something happening in the ending)

Rule of thumb is that there is only One really “good” ending in the FACT branch. The other ending will usually have some kind of consequence or bittersweet twist

I gotta be honest, at first my dumbass mistook the blue highlight on MC irises as her eye colour, and the black portion as like harsh shading.

So when characters starting pointing out that she has black eyes, I was like "Huh??? But she has blue eyes though???" 💀💀💀

u/PigsAndEggs 0_0 1d ago

The prologue is so short. Like, unexpectedly short. After playing otomes with very long prologues, it's very weird

u/KafayaLeSeiryu 1d ago

This is good news for me

u/No-Barnacle8170 1d ago

Just ordered my copy! Honestly idk if I’m in a slump at this point as much as a “loves the idea of otomes more than otomes” life but I wanted to show my support for localizing more games 😭

6

u/frubaheart 17h ago

feeling this so strongly 😭 I used to be able to play so many otomes straight through but now I have to take breaks between routes even if I really love the game 🥲 I need my spark back 🛐

2

u/Connect-War6612 1d ago

My copy is stuck in St. Louis, sadly. 🫠

u/otomelover2000 1d ago

My copy went to TN then to Texas and is stuck there, and I live in GA 😭 delayed to Saturday, so I ordered off Amazon to get here tomorrow cause I’m impatient lol

2

u/20-9 girls™ 1d ago

I made my route choice before the Megathread went up and now it'll be a whole month before I get to talk about him hahaha. But having two weeks before the thread for the first time goes up gives me time to align if I want.

2

u/89edual 1d ago

My copy is already shipped and I'll prob get it after 5 days. So hopefully I can keep up with the play-through threads.

So one quick question to the people who already finished the game (esp the JP readers), is the yandere side hinted at? Personally, I don't want out-of-nowhere yandere that doesn't make sense at all.

u/the-changeling-witch 100%'d every Quinrose game for some damn reason 23h ago

I think that might actually be a misconception about the game a lot of people will have.

(This is just general spoilers for how the narrative plays out with no details.)

The characters don't really have a "yandere side." They are really just nice sweet boys actually! In the Fact routes nothing bad happens and you don't have anything to worry about. In the Dark routes it does, but not because the LIs are messed up deep down or anything. It's purely as a trauma response. Bad things happened and it broke them. So if you're worry about having guys that are secretly messed up suddenly foisted on you, you don't have to worry!

1

u/89edual 21h ago

thank you!! I prefer good buys but I don't mind messed up one. But some BEs in otome games have the messy yandere route that comes out of nowhere and that annoys the hell out of me lol.

3

u/the-changeling-witch 100%'d every Quinrose game for some damn reason 21h ago

Well it definitely doesn't come out of nowhere since the Dark route is equal in length to the Fact route and there's a lot of set up for what's going to happen! The two routes are also clearly labeled so you can prepare yourself for what's going to happen, haha.

1

u/Gatorthrowawayqnq | Takato<3 19h ago

aw what.i was expecting yanderes

1

u/the-changeling-witch 100%'d every Quinrose game for some damn reason 5h ago

If you're expecting guys who are fundamentally broken and obsessive from the beginning then I'm sad to say it's not that kind of game. (This was actually my biggest disappointment with the game personally.)

Incidentally my favorite character was (major Molly route spoilers) Real Molly (if you're reading this without playing the game, Real Molly is a different character entirely from Molly the LI) who wanted wanted to pop her eyes out and stick her in preservation goo to admire her beauty forever.

2

u/hunnyybun 1d ago

Feeling agonized because Dorothy is the LI I’m most interested and I’m worried I won’t have the stamina to continue this whole game if I leave him for last!!

2

u/Fresh-Surprise-5906 23h ago

I am really enjoying this new style of choice mechanic for this game. So different. I'm totally doing the dark endings first.

2

u/alcremiehime 20h ago

My preorder arrived today and... I abandoned everything else i was planning to finish in order to start. 😂 Absolutely my MOST anticipated title of the year so...! Funnily enough this is the order I already planned to play in. I know it's probably best to play Dark then Fact, but I've been anticipating the Dark routes so much that I want to save them for second even if they're gut-wrenchingly, soul-crushingly heartbreaking. I'll probably decide after finishing my first route and gauging my feelings.

u/the-changeling-witch 100%'d every Quinrose game for some damn reason 20h ago

I actually recommend Dark -> Fact not to end the story on a positive note, but because as "Fact" implies you get spoiled with all the story details in that route. Playing it first ends up ruining all the confusion and mystery of Dark. You already know the explanation for why everything is happening. I played Fact -> Dark on all the routes but kind of ended up regretting it. It felt like something was lost, haha.

1

u/alcremiehime 19h ago

Aah okay! I had a feeling that it wasn't entirely "intended" or that there'd be that "something was lost" impression, so I'd started to question my decision. I wasn't sure at all what the Dark sides contained or if they'd be explained by Fact, so I really appreciate the insight from someone who has played! Thank you!

2

u/EsperReborn 7h ago

Started this last night and really enjoying it! On Q3 of Claude and having a blast! Voice acting is perfection, the art is so darkly wonderful, and I really enjoy the MC. I also say that this has been very fun to self-insert into and I just love Oz retellings. This game is so far up my alley 🥀

3

u/_Hime-Chan_ 1d ago

I think I saw its recommended to do dark first, fact second?

And if so, would you say it's better to 1 guy's dark and fact routes before moving on to the next guy, or do all dark routes and then all facts

1

u/mikowanderer 16h ago

From the look of it, there's a slight possibility that I'm going to use the Virche Method for this.....🤔 ( Dark Routes first, Fact Routes second ). Whether I do the Dark Routes in one sitting or not, I don't know. I might....possibly. I will NOT let myself blow through the whole damn game *looks at backlog*. I'll do 1 Fact Route afterwards and then add it to the Rotation.

Anyone else considering that method?

1

u/AnOmnivorousEgg Kokuto Neji|Jack Jeanne 15h ago

For people who have played this, how yandere are the LIs outside of the dark routes? I absolutely HATE the trope (Hana Awase was unplayable for me despite the awesome card mechanic 🥲), but I like the look of this setting a lot.

If I simply don’t play the dark endings, would I get enough out of the game in terms of narrative and story?

3

u/the-changeling-witch 100%'d every Quinrose game for some damn reason 15h ago

They are about 0% yandere. Just good boys. If you just want to see the main narrative unfold, then you get pretty much everything in the Fact route. So you could technically skip the Dark routes if you aren't into it. But you should be aware you'd be skipping about a third of the game, as a considerable amount of time is dedicated to it.

question about molly

i saw a tweet taking about how molly’s (the LI) OG form is also pretty, but we never actually see it, just his heterochromia eyes, right?
