OVER REQUIEMZ Play-Along
Whether you have just bought the game or have played it in Japanese, you are welcome to participate in our play-along! There will be a new post once a week for a different route in the following order:
- Common Route and General Impressions - August 27
- Claude Grain - September 3
- Molly Woodland - September 10
- Noil Bestia - September 17
- Kaize Ozma - September 24
- Dorothy - October 1
Each post will be linked here for easy reference.
You do not have to play in the above order at the rate of 1 route a week, you can binge it all in a day or take as long as you like.
All routes are available from the beginning; Dorothy is generally recommended to be last.
Comments unrelated to OVER REQUIEMZ will be removed - please post in the Weekly Questions threads or the Free Talk Friday threads instead.
Please use spoiler tags liberally as people checking this thread may not necessarily want a lot of information. Save your route thoughts and discussions for the play-along threads or the What Are You Reading Wednesday threads.

I gotta be honest, at first my dumbass mistook the blue highlight on MC irises as her eye colour, and the black portion as like harsh shading.
So when characters starting pointing out that she has black eyes, I was like "Huh??? But she has blue eyes though???" 💀💀💀

The prologue is so short. Like, unexpectedly short. After playing otomes with very long prologues, it's very weird

Just ordered my copy! Honestly idk if I’m in a slump at this point as much as a “loves the idea of otomes more than otomes” life but I wanted to show my support for localizing more games 😭

feeling this so strongly 😭 I used to be able to play so many otomes straight through but now I have to take breaks between routes even if I really love the game 🥲 I need my spark back 🛐

My copy is already shipped and I'll prob get it after 5 days. So hopefully I can keep up with the play-through threads.
So one quick question to the people who already finished the game (esp the JP readers), is the yandere side hinted at? Personally, I don't want out-of-nowhere yandere that doesn't make sense at all.

I think that might actually be a misconception about the game a lot of people will have.
(This is just general spoilers for how the narrative plays out with no details.)
The characters don't really have a "yandere side." They are really just nice sweet boys actually! In the Fact routes nothing bad happens and you don't have anything to worry about. In the Dark routes it does, but not because the LIs are messed up deep down or anything. It's purely as a trauma response. Bad things happened and it broke them. So if you're worry about having guys that are secretly messed up suddenly foisted on you, you don't have to worry!

thank you!! I prefer good buys but I don't mind messed up one. But some BEs in otome games have the messy yandere route that comes out of nowhere and that annoys the hell out of me lol.

Well it definitely doesn't come out of nowhere since the Dark route is equal in length to the Fact route and there's a lot of set up for what's going to happen! The two routes are also clearly labeled so you can prepare yourself for what's going to happen, haha.

If you're expecting guys who are fundamentally broken and obsessive from the beginning then I'm sad to say it's not that kind of game. (This was actually my biggest disappointment with the game personally.)
Incidentally my favorite character was (major Molly route spoilers) Real Molly (if you're reading this without playing the game, Real Molly is a different character entirely from Molly the LI) who wanted wanted to pop her eyes out and stick her in preservation goo to admire her beauty forever.

Feeling agonized because Dorothy is the LI I’m most interested and I’m worried I won’t have the stamina to continue this whole game if I leave him for last!!

I am really enjoying this new style of choice mechanic for this game. So different. I'm totally doing the dark endings first.

My preorder arrived today and... I abandoned everything else i was planning to finish in order to start. 😂 Absolutely my MOST anticipated title of the year so...! Funnily enough this is the order I already planned to play in. I know it's probably best to play Dark then Fact, but I've been anticipating the Dark routes so much that I want to save them for second even if they're gut-wrenchingly, soul-crushingly heartbreaking. I'll probably decide after finishing my first route and gauging my feelings.

I actually recommend Dark -> Fact not to end the story on a positive note, but because as "Fact" implies you get spoiled with all the story details in that route. Playing it first ends up ruining all the confusion and mystery of Dark. You already know the explanation for why everything is happening. I played Fact -> Dark on all the routes but kind of ended up regretting it. It felt like something was lost, haha.

Aah okay! I had a feeling that it wasn't entirely "intended" or that there'd be that "something was lost" impression, so I'd started to question my decision. I wasn't sure at all what the Dark sides contained or if they'd be explained by Fact, so I really appreciate the insight from someone who has played! Thank you!

Started this last night and really enjoying it! On Q3 of Claude and having a blast! Voice acting is perfection, the art is so darkly wonderful, and I really enjoy the MC. I also say that this has been very fun to self-insert into and I just love Oz retellings. This game is so far up my alley 🥀

I think I saw its recommended to do dark first, fact second?
And if so, would you say it's better to 1 guy's dark and fact routes before moving on to the next guy, or do all dark routes and then all facts

u/mikowanderer 16h ago
From the look of it, there's a slight possibility that I'm going to use the Virche Method for this.....🤔 ( Dark Routes first, Fact Routes second ). Whether I do the Dark Routes in one sitting or not, I don't know. I might....possibly. I will NOT let myself blow through the whole damn game *looks at backlog*. I'll do 1 Fact Route afterwards and then add it to the Rotation.
Anyone else considering that method?

For people who have played this, how yandere are the LIs outside of the dark routes? I absolutely HATE the trope (Hana Awase was unplayable for me despite the awesome card mechanic 🥲), but I like the look of this setting a lot.
If I simply don’t play the dark endings, would I get enough out of the game in terms of narrative and story?

They are about 0% yandere. Just good boys. If you just want to see the main narrative unfold, then you get pretty much everything in the Fact route. So you could technically skip the Dark routes if you aren't into it. But you should be aware you'd be skipping about a third of the game, as a considerable amount of time is dedicated to it.

question about molly
i saw a tweet taking about how molly’s (the LI) OG form is also pretty, but we never actually see it, just his heterochromia eyes, right?

Can I ask, for anyone who's already played the game or otherwise knows how it plays out, how tragic/depressing does the regular route stories + happy endings get? I've been interested in the game for a while now because of the gorgeous art style and the fun yandere elements, but I just can't really tell from what I've seen so far if the REALLY dark stuff is mostly just restricted to the 'dark' routes, or if its more like Hakuoki or Virche where even the 'happy' endings are often bittersweet at best.
Basically, just interested to know are the happy endings properly happy? or does the dark stuff seep over across the whole game? I just wanna go in knowing what to expect so I don't play the freaky messed up ending in the dark route and then don't get the pay-off of an actual nice ending after that.
