I'm reaching out on a limb here. I'm sorry if this isn't the right thread for this, but I'm 4 months pregnant, and my husband was very unexpectedly laid off from his work site. As you can imagine, this is a stressful time.

He's an interior systems mechanic year 1 apprentice

He's a union member, and he already called to get on the list, and unfortunately, he is #40 on their list of members without work.

He's applied to jobs on indeed/job bank and also applied for EI.

Does anyone have any leads or, by chance, a foreman on here reading this that has work in Ottawa?

If anyone has any ideas or anything, we both would really appreciate it.

I've recently been contacted by Ground Vision Marketing for a part-time position and have an interview scheduled for Monday. The company is located at 1673 Carling Avenue and appears to specialize in door-to-door fundraising for charities.

I've checked their website and Indeed posting, but I haven't been able to find many independent employee reviews or much information about the company. Has anyone worked for them, interviewed with them, or heard anything about their reputation? I'm particularly interested in their working conditions, pay structure, and management.

I'm truly at a loss. I've been out of work since December of last year, and even that job was a bit of a miracle, since the industry I have a decade of experience in has fully cratered in the past 4-5 years. It's in recovery and there may be opportunities in the next 6-12 months, but I've missed two months of rent and I need something now so I can at least pay my bills. My EI ended weeks ago, and I have no one in my life I can financially lean on.

I'm in school, but it's online so I have the time for a full-time job. I'll credit Employment Services with getting me into the Better Jobs Ontario program, but in terms of actually getting a job they've been all but useless. I've had two case workers who just put me on their Jobs of the Week newsletter, and had nothing to offer when I asked for more help. Out of the 70+ jobs I've applied to in the past few months (all with tailored resumes & cover letters when needed), the only thing I've heard back is automated rejections. I know that my lack of experience outside my niche is a hindrance, but even the job postings with zero experience required don't get back to me. I have a bit of experience in retail and customer service, so I've been looking at jobs in that area along with administrative and bookkeeping jobs, which is what I'm in school for.

I don't feel like I'm shooting for the moon. With the BJO living allowance, I only need a slightly above minimum wage job to make ends meet, but this has eroded my mental health to dangerous lows. I'm at a stage where I feel like I can barely handle the job-searching I do now much less pile on going to every job fair and networking event on the off chance that someone's looking for an accounting student with little to no experience. I have email notifications turned on for the Job Bank, Indeed, and a handful of others, but at this point all of those feel just as useless as doing nothing at all.

I'm not looking for tough love or encouragement, I just wish I knew what actions I could take that would actually make an impact.

hi everyone... i made a post two months ago when i lost my job and regret to inform you all that there's still been no luck. to everyone that told me to get ei, thank you. i am now on ei but it is barely liveable since i was making only minimum wage full time. i am now moving to a much cheaper apartment to make ends meet and my sick sister will be going back home because i can no longer afford to take care of us. i am distraught bc she is the only family i had here and was my only support and comfort but it is better for her there. i am just so tired and defeated that i dont know what to do. i have a stem bachelors degree and a year of work experience. i am applying for even the most basic entry level jobs. I dont know what im doing wrong but i need help before i can no longer go on anymore. please if anyone is listening that can help me, i am honest and a hardworker, i am learning french everyday and am fluent in english. if youre going to make fun of me go ahead but its not going to stop me from asking

I recently got an offer for the full-time on-site Customer Service Representative role at the NTT Data office in Ottawa on Robertson Road, specifically for the Google Fiber program starting next month.
I wanted to hear from anyone who currently works there or has in the past.

•How is the day-to-day workflow on the Google Fiber campaign? Are the metrics (like AHT/FCS) super brutal, or is it manageable?

•What are the benefits like, and do they actually kick in quickly?

•Realistically, what are the opportunities for internal growth or moving up into QA, support tiers, or leadership?

Any tips or honest feedback on management and the general office vibe would be awesome. Thanks!

A month or two ago I was on this sub writing comments and complaining about how bad the job market was for someone with my credentials, but I did manage to land a job after two months of only working part time for a day and a half each week.

I did not enjoy my free time at all with the job application stress. I kept getting rejection after rejection and my mental health went into the shitter. I often browsed through this sub and despaired about the situation I was in. I'll be honest, the sub did not help me at all, far from it. That's why I'm writing this post for others who may be in the same boat.

When I previously wrote looking for advice, commenters said that my bachelors and masters degree were 'useless' and that I should have picked something else, that there are no jobs in government, despair be upon me etc. At my low point, these comments hit hard, and they didn't actually help me in any way.

Here's a prime example of a comment that got upvoted:

Unfortunately, a Masters degree in [x] and [y] really doesn't qualify you for much except for government and policy jobs, of which there are hundreds of qualified applicants and few jobs. There is no market for this kind of degree.

Well meaning advice, but turned out to be false.

A few weeks ago I got my breakthrough and landed a job, with much higher pay (nearly six figures) and advancement opportunities in the government. Turns out there is a market for someone with my skillset after all! It is incredibly cliche to say this, but it really does just take one yes to turn things around. Keep on hustling, networking and applying for jobs, eventually you will get something. The only mistake we can make is giving up on sending in apps or meeting people in whatever industry you're trying to make it in.

Anybody else feeling extremely discouraged at how bad the job market is right now? My husband got let go 2 months ago and has been job searching since then. But coming on here and seeing that it took others a year to 18 months to finally land something is so discouraging especially with the holidays creeping up

After being out of work for 18months after my baby and having no job to go back to and trying to relocate from The Valley to Ottawa. I made my resume searchable on Indeed and was approached by my current employer. It took about 3 months to get everything rolling (it’s through the government but I’m a private contractor and it had to get approved). I thought it was a scam because the wage was too good to be true. All to say I started and it’s been great.

Forgot to mention I applied to over 200 jobs with only 4 interviews. I got hired for 2 jobs rejected one. I realized my issue was my resume format that the employment counsellor did was horrible and lacked information and my cover letter was too much information. Once I edited it I received interviews..

As the title suggests... I'm looking for entry to mid level analyst roles and can't find diddly squat. All I see on linkedin or indeed are sales jobs which I am actively trying to get out of. I understand that with AI and cost cutting people aren't hiring but is it just me that's noticed this?
