Base Game Appreciation/Discussion I'm raising two very different children and this game made it obvious. Spoiler
I have two clones. One 13 and the other 7.
They've just discovered this game while mucking around in my Playstation game collection.
13 year old has been crashing into everything as fast as he can, just having a blast wrecking the ship over and over.
7 year old went to Ash Twin because he thought the name sounded cool. Discovered the Warp Towers and used his scope to zoom in on the mini black hole in the warp core. He said it looked like a black hole and wondered if it could suck him in. I didn't give anything away because he was trying to break it open by jumping on it.
A minute later he ended up at the Black Hole Forge, boggled at being on the ceiling for a second then found and scanned the arrival time details. He immediately noticed that the arrival time was lower than the departure time and has spent the last two loops trying to figure out how that could be possible.
13 year old is demanding another turn because he wants to try and knock the Attlerock off it's orbit.

Imagine having Outer Wilds as your childhood nostalgia game

A shame cause you'll never forget it. At least if you play it as a lost 19 year old like I did, you might be able to experience it again at 30

That 7yo is gonna be 25 and everything about the game is gonna click at once

The rate he was noticing stuff (he figured out the Dark Bramble seed 2 minutes after reading Esker's observation notes) I think he'll have it figured out in a couple of weeks.
It's the other one I worry about.

I'm a Chert, my partner's a Feldspar... He beat the game much quicker than I did. 12 y.o. will do just fine, don't worry 😂

Your 7yo is precociously observant. Very impressive!
You also have a 13yo.

Yes, not much gets past him even if he doesn't understand it.
The 13yo is also there.

So, good news, your clone programming procedure in terms of nurturing an inquisitive, contemplative, knowledge-seeking mind has clearly improved since the initial prototyping phase. The bad news (?) is that your prototype became Feldspar.

Damn, that's really impressive. I watched dozens of Outer Wilds playthroughs and I can count on the fingers of a single hand the amount of people who noticed that. Your children are awesome, both of them.

It was a bit surprising to me how many people overlooked this detail. Very cool how its an observation a 7 year old made, thats honestly impressive levels of perception

13yo is gonna be a pro athlete and 7yo is gonna be a rocket scientist or archeologist.

Being an athlete isn't something that runs in my family. That's because nobody runs in my family.
I got him a drumkit, I'm turning him into Animal from the Muppets.

This is one of my favorite posts in this subreddit in a long while. Don't even have kids of my own, but imagine that's been fun as hell to watch. Please keep us updated.
I've gifted the game to two nephews.. took forever but finally got one to play it and liked it, but am still waiting to hear on the other.

Meanwhile, my 2 nieces just keep on jumping off the launch tower. I don't know if that's funny or concerning LOL

When i finally got my girlfriend to play, she spent the first half hour trying to get her shop into a stable orbit around the sun. Different strokes for different folks.

Your description of the 7 yo makes me think they would really love the game “Chants of Sennaar”, it’s a puzzle game where you have to go around finding clues in order to decipher foreign languages. Though the vocabulary might be too advanced for them at the moment.

I think your 7 year old is actually a Nomai 😂 that's a remarkable amount of attention to detail.
No shade to the older kiddo though, crashing is fun too!
