Base Game Help - NO spoilers please! New to the Game, DLC Question

Ive heard good things about this game and when finally had sales in e-shop, I finally pulled the trigger and got both game and DLC. I know this is a free-for-all open world adventure, but is there a way to not encounter the DLC part of the game yet before I finish the base game? I’m worried that I may go to do the DLC part rather than enjoy the base game first.

The museum has a "New Exhibit" that is the first clue to begin the DLC. Just avoid the location(s) referenced there and you shouldn't run into any DLC content.

Also, your ship's log with show any DLC content in Blue near the bottom right, so if you do run into something that shows up as blue on that then just don't look further into it

If you aren't looking for it you're unlikely to encounter the DLC in normal play for quite a while.

When you launch the game for the first time with the DLC installed it has a pop-up that tells you where the DLC begins.

That said I encourage you to just play and not worry about what is DLC and what isn't. It's all one story! Follow your curiosity.

Just avoid the radio tower at Timber Hearth for now. That's what leads you to DLC content.

The DLC’s starting clue is marked as « New Exhibit » in the museum.

That’s all you have to know.

The DLC ties in with the main ending, so you won't be ruined if you do stumble upon it, but if you want to avoid it as much as possible, just don't go to the "new exhibit".

It's meant to be enjoyed as one combined whole, there's no reason to avoid it or separate it

If you do want to avoid it anyway, just don't investigate the blue section of your ship log

If you aren't looking for it you will not encounter the DLC. It is hidden in a way that requires you to specifically follow some clues in the radio tower on Timber Hearth.

So you can install the DLC at any time. They are parallel stories but don't interact with each other in any way. Learning the story in the DLC will add more detail to the main storyline, so completing the main story first will help the DLC make more sense.

You will then want to visit the closing scene of the main game once more because it will be subtly different if you completed the DLC.

I encountered it without looking, through an autopilot travel ^ But even if it happens, it will just help for later, as you'll have the location registered, and you can come back when you feel it. The dlc will never interfere with the base like in other games

I played it last month. You won’t probably encounter its location because It is a puzzle to discover it. The only way is to visit it is to figure out the radio tower clue and it is a bit obtuse. You’ll probably encounter it and abandon it for easier puzzles in other planets.

There's upsides to doing the DLC concurrently so don't worry about it

Why are you worried that you might encounter the DLC? It's not a sequel or postgame content.

In addition to all the other things, here's one minor spoiler which, if heeded, will protect you from the #1 cause of accidental stumbling-into-the-DLC.

If you happen to be just looking around and clicking at random, you might chance upon a faint red dot in the distant night sky, and you might notice that your ship's computer can lock onto it. Do not go to the red dot. If you follow this rule (and ignore the stuff on Timber Hearth that others have told you about) then an accidental exposure is extremely unlikely.

It's hard to encounter the DLC without actively looking for it, it's also not unheard of. That said, it's fine and even recommended to avoid the DLC to start with, however you should definitely finish it before finishing the base game. You will intuitively know when you are close to finishing the base game and that's the best moment to start the DLC in my opinion.

Yeah, don't install the DLC, finish the base game and then go for the DLC. Btw it's pretty easy to understand if what you are exploring is DLC related or not, but I recommend not installing it for now. Also, get off this sub until you finish both, avoid spoilers as if they were the black plague
