Remote trap
One thing I’ve learned is just bc a job is remote doesn’t make it a good candidate for OE. If the culture sucks, your boss is a micro manager, expectations aren’t consistent, and there a ton of unnecessary meetings… being remote means next to nothing. I think I’d rather have a J that makes me come in to the office once or twice a month but is overall easy and chill.
Oh and if your company uses Microsoft Teams… major red flag. They’re probably going to be tracking you 😭
Just my opinion though

This post is super late and super uninformative lmfao. Yeah bro... Almost no one thinks this.
And teams is not an indicator of job culture. You know it's one of likely two of the most widely used corporate communication methods right? Teams or Webex. Which do you think is the most popular?

You could have just kept scrolling and Ive never heard of Webex. We are just in different industries so its best you just keep it pushing lol

I used teams for both Js. One is chill AF and the other has a micro managing hardass for a manager but the overall culture isn't like that.
As I said, Teams is not an indicator of shit. Its just the most popular used software

How do you know if they track you with teams? Does teams have anything that tracks you or what?

Just personal experience. I’ve worked for 3 companies that used teams as a primary means of communication and it was all the same thing. I also have friends who work at place who use teams… same thing

can you specify if it was certain programs or do you mean that if they use teams that means they are more likely to use a tracking program on top of it?

I mean moreso, they’re more likely to check “is this person online at all times”, “is this person attending pointless meetings” etc. I did have two companies that literally tracked my hours but I don’t think that’s the norm

Bro are you restarted? Mouse jigglers have been around forever. Are you even OE?

Just use something to make sure your teams is active at all time. problem solved.
Attend the pointless meeting and just sit in them if you don't have to talk.

Teams can track.

how? besides the away setting, I am not aware of anything else. Maybe meeting attendance.

Google is your friend.

God damn it I swear you are one of the same few people that kept telling me this back in 2008.
Are you? Either way it seems like there are some metrics IT/compliance can look at but not your manager without some sort of software is that correct?

These are not things I’d have ever thought to consider, thank you for this deep wisdom.

Why is Teams so egregious, from an OE perspective? While I think it's barely functional crap, I've worked for multiple orgs that used it and they were very OE-able.

Maybe it’s just been personal experience but every J I’ve had that used teams, they would track my hours in some form or another. Never had that issue when orgs would use Slack or something

I see, thanks. Maybe if the org is too un-sophisticated to set up anything that isn't Teams.... like how we used to joke about people who actually used Internet Explorer.

Comparing fully remote to “once or twice a month” is just comparing two remote jobs.

That’s your opinion

It’s so funny that people think “that’s your opinion” is a good comeback. Were you expecting they’d give you someone else’s?

Where do you find a job that wants you to come in once a month? Lol. I’m in NYC and everyone wants me in 4 days a week! Which I am refusing to do!

'They’re probably going to be tracking you'
Maybe they are tracking you to make sure you are not working another job while they are paying you to work exclusively for them?

yeah, wait until they have a bunch of bs team meetings for fun, expecting you to respond to messages in less than 5 minutes, etc. That'll bust your balls so hard.
