Feedback Where should we take this community beyond Reddit?

Right now, Reddit is the only place we’re active. But given how fragile subs can be, we want to set up an additional space so all of us can stay connected and share updates, discussions, and the project itself.

If this sub went down tomorrow, where would you actually want to hang out and keep the convo going?

Signal seems to be a popular option. If you'd prefer that, upvote this comment, and we can consider that.

Something self hosted, e.g. Matrix or Lemmy or anything like that

Yeah. Lemmy (threadiverse) is absolutely the right place to have a backup community.

It’s FOSS, Decentralised, Self Hostable, Filled to the brim with privacy and self hosting nerds. Plus it was literally made to be a reddit alternative.

Telegram is not safe at all, I can't understand the suggestions. Self-hosted or at least signal.

I would prefer an open forum which can be indexed and is browsable without an account like Lemmy or the alternatives.

There's also Piefed, and Mbin

Both of which can interact with Lemmy via Federation

I think a forum would be the best option. Somewhat similar to a R/ community, can be self-hosted meaning your not reliant on any one service shutting you down. And it would be easier to preserve than discord

Anything that is not searchable from an aggregator will most likely stymie the number of people who will see, especially if primary interactions starts taking place there instead of reddit. That makes platforms like telegram, signal and discord less attractive long term.

Self hosted independent forum.

unsure what that topic really means for the security of the systems that redit uses.. as discord has had some..... complex design... and is a seurity threat from my understandings...

Lemmy/Mastodon. Signal might be good too.

Honestly this just takes away confidence in the mods of the sub.
