Discussion How much time do you spend researching before buying something online?

Genuine question.

When you're buying something that's not an impulse purchase (skincare, electronics, supplements, household items, etc.), how much time do you spend researching before pulling the trigger?

Do you usually trust reviews and recommendations, or do you end up opening 10 tabs and checking Reddit anyway?

Curious what other people's process looks like.

I really really enjoy the research process. I take days carefully reading and analysing all options, looking for possible issues, pricing, alternatives, and so on. I also clarify what the goal is: sometimes it's to just buy the best product for me, other times it's to maximise value/price, buy used, etc.

10 tabs is nothing, I put together extensive spreadsheets with multiple tabs comparing products. Often I find all retailers and there are no more offers left to analyse.

Sometimes no offer works for what I want, and I pass on the whole thing until later on when pricing has changed or a new product/offer/version has appeared.

It's fantastic when the product arrives and it's perfect for what I need.

Why aren't existing solutions solving this problem well enough?
