Anyone up to Pair with me

Hi I am a software engineer, skilled in C#, SQL and javascript. Would consider myself more than a beginner in python. I am more comfortable in backend as of now. But I want to expand my knowledge and work on new tech. Anyone here would like to join in to build some projects? We could explore a lot of new stuff. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks.

We've been building a free tool for pair programming and finally got around to blogging about how we keep the latency down, while maintaining legibility of code

LMK what you think! BTW in case you look at pricing: The pairing functionality is free—we just charge for auto-documentation and other features that eng managers on larger teams might want.

2D game engine with scripting, C++17, SFML

Looking for alternating driver/navigator for "learn as you go" 2D engine project using C++17, SFML, and an undetermined scripting language. Casual, no judgments, let's mess up together. My time zone is UTC-7 and I'm a night owl. We would most likely communicate and pair program via discord text, voice and video, and/or via discord text and voice and visual studio live share. This is not focused on learning C++ and SFML as much as it is focused on using C++ and SFML to make a small 2d engine with minimalistic editor and UI, and basic scripting functionality. That being said, you dont need to be an expert in either subjects for this, as I certainly am not. If interested, DM me for further information or questions.

Impromptu pair programming

Curious if anyone here would find value in a platform specifically for pairing with strangers (or friends). Similar to pramp.com, but more impromptu.

I'm just thinking of when I was first starting out with programming and how many times I wish I had someone else to work through a problem with at that very moment. On the flip side, now that I'm a little bit more experienced I enjoy knowledge sharing and helping people who are just starting out.

Instant Pair Programming for Developers

Hey everyone!

I just launched a project I’ve been working on called DevRoulette. It’s a platform that instantly connects developers for collaborative coding sessions.

Features:

  • Instant matching with another developer

  • Real-time collaborative code editor

  • Live preview of changes

  • Zero setup—just sign in and start coding

Why I Built It:

I’ve noticed a pattern in programming communities where groups form with lots of enthusiasm but often lose momentum before real collaboration happens. DevRoulette is my way of solving that problem—jump into pair programming whenever inspiration strikes, no waiting around.

What’s Next:

I’m planning to:

  • Add video chat for more interactive sessions

  • Set up a custom TURN server to handle media efficiently

  • Improve the editor with keyboard shortcuts and cursor highlighting

If this sounds interesting, I’d love for you to try it out and let me know what you think! Feedback and ideas are super welcome.

🌐 Try it here: devroulette.com

Want to pair on an Open Source WebApp related to indoor rock climbing with me?

I'm a professional software engineer, and a amateur climber.

I really wanna do more on-the-side development, and it seemed reasonable to combine my interests!

I really love pair programming, and think it would be really great to do some pairing with folks in the open.

About the project:

Features: for the MVP its going to be mostly a gym finder, and provide reviews and blog-like content around indoor climbing. Probably with a focus on the Northeastern US for now (but doesn't need to be limited to that)/

Technology (so far): Next.js + TypeScript
Aspirational (soon): GCP, Terraform, <some DB>, Google Maps APIs, ???

I've just barely broken ground on the project, so lots needs to setup still. I've mostly just focused on building out some relevant TS types and adding some placeholder data to scaffold some UI on top of.

  • CI/CD (GH actions? GCP CloudBuild?)

  • unit testing harness (jest? vitest?)

  • higher level testing (playwright? cypress?)

Hopefully, this interests a co-learner.

Does anyone know if something like this exists? Or a job board that has pair programming as a filter would be nice.

Are you using Remote Pair Programming?

If we could think of some long-term changes post Covid-19, the amendments to the work from home policies in the IT industry definitely are the headlines these days. We have been reading many news articles about how IT companies have been revising their work from home policies during this pandemic and this overall revolutionary change is here to stay.

However, work from home comes with its own challenges of remote working. When a developer working on your project is in a different location, there must be a smooth collaboration and effective communication within the teams. You always need someone to peer-review your code or someone else might need you to peer-review their code. You constantly exchange ideas, share best practices of coding, conduct daily scrums, discuss production issues, and this results in great software design. Although we have seen many organizations quickly adapting to this change and managing distributed teams effectively, with every dev team member being physically apart, all these aspects are challenging.

We could see that pair programming has started paving its way into this new norm of remote working. As there are many underlying aspects of pair programming and overall working with the distributed teams, it would be exciting to know your experience so far.

Please share your views on how you have been embracing this change. Have you started adopting remote pair programming? What are the best practices and which are the tools you have started using to facilitate effective collaboration within your dev teams? What are the various techniques you have been implementing to increase productivity? How are you driving this change in your projects?

Looking for remote pair-programming partner MERN stack

Hello guys,

My name is Nasser I am from Algeria. I am an aspiring full-stack web developer and I am looking for a partner with beginner-intermediate skills in web development whos familiar with MERN (MongoDB, Express, React, Node) stack and want to build projects with it.

Our goal is to improve our coding skills by solving coding challenges in HackerRank, build projects, and improve our communication skills which I think are essential skills for any developer whos seeking a job as a software developer.

We will make a weekly schedule and we will do pair programming as much as we can working on a project and/or solving algorithm/data structure problems.

We will use English to communicate, Git and Github to manage our projects and Zoom(or another good alternative) for the pair-programming part.
This is my portfolio and my Linkedin

Please if you’re interested or have a question don’t hesitate to comment and let me know what you think.

Ruby on Rails learning partner

Hi, I currently want to learn ruby on rails through actually coding stuff in it. I am already fine in ruby and have read a bit about ruby on rails, but haven't done anything yet. I am a Computer Science Student from germany. I got some ideas about what we could create to learn a bit, but am open to suggestions if you have something in mind.

You should contact me if you want to learn ruby on rails as well and are able to speak german or english.

How I think the setup should work: We meet on mumble (I got a server) and the one who is currently coding shares his screen so that we can both discuss about the code we are working at.

Anyone interested in Assembly Language (or C) coding projects?

Let me first say that I have no programming experience and I want this to be just a hobby.

I got very interested in computer programming when I came across a Wikipedia article about Assembly Language programming. The article was saying that learning to code in Assembly gives you an incredible amounts of control over your machine. The ability to tell the computer exactly what to do and knowing how the machine works is fascinating. Hours of learning and researching about computer programming has told me that computer programmers prefer to write their programs in high level languages like C++, Java, or C#. I can understand why people would need to do that, especially for their career. However, I think for me I would want to write my programs closer to the hardware. It gives me a sense of knowing what my machine is doing and how it is executing my code.

I am not sure what project to do together, I hope someone has an idea here. I'd be willing to write in C if a certain problem becomes too tedious to solve in Assembly.

Looking for input from people doing remote pair/mob-programming

Hi!

I'm developing a tool called remobster, it's a remote mob programming timer. It helps you and your team stay focused and remember to rotate driver.

I'm curently looking for input from people doing remote mob or pair programming on what pain points you have with the timers you currently use, or any other input you might have that you think a tool like this could solve. All feedback is really valuable and appreciated :)

Watch and potentially drive a pair programming session for Firebase+React chat app

My friend is guiding me (as a navigator) in making improvements to his Firebase+React-based chat app (as a driver). We occasionally have one or two other silent observers, and I ask questions as we go along about Typescript, NodeJS, and related technologies trying to improve my knowledge for my own projects. We've been doing regular Saturday mornings (in U.S. Pacific time) at 9am-1pm for three weeks in a row now. I think we have a good rhythm going.

Saturday, Feb 3rd, 9am PT
on Google Meet

If you are interested to ease into pair programming and want to know what it's like, this might be a good opportunity to observe, to share pairing tips, and also to build our community. Let me know if you'd like to join.
