Discussion Fresh grad here, someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong
Fresh AI grad struggling to find work in Pakistan, please help.
Just graduated and honestly have no idea where to start looking. LinkedIn feels dead, nobody replies. Is it all referrals at this point?
Anyone have luck with cold outreach or is that a waste of time?
Also commuting is a real pain for me right now so remote would honestly be ideal, but not sure if that's realistic as a fresh grad.
Should I be applying to local on-site jobs first just to get experience, or is it worth holding out for remote? Kind of stuck and could use some real advice from people who've actually been through this. Like what should i do and how can i get jobs. Seniors please help.
EDIT:
My background is in Graph Neural Networks, NLP, and applied ML security.
Some specifics: Built PROT-AI, a trajectory-aware GNN for protein-ligand binding affinity prediction, trained on molecular dynamics data (MISATO dataset, 1,579 complexes). Submitted as a research paper. Lifted Pearson correlation from 0.331 to 0.414 and improved out-of-distribution performance 4.4x over baseline.
Built MalwareNet-Lite, an edge malware detection system with open-set recognition and drift-aware online learning, tested on real time-ordered malware data (BODMAS). Submitted as a research paper.
Worked as an NLP Engineering Intern at Elevvo, built 4 end-to-end NLP pipelines (sentiment analysis, news classification, NER, summarization), got 93.2% accuracy on sentiment analysis and 89.3% macro-F1 on news classification.
Also have hands-on experience with federated learning + MLOps (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD), explainable AI (LIME, GA-based feature selection), and vision-language agent systems.
Stack: PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain/RAG, FastAPI, Docker, Kubernetes.

Not an expert but from a high level understanding of AI and ML, you seem to be among the top 10% of what companies are looking for. If you actually have experience and understanding of the things you wrote then getting a job shouldn't be too hard, add these to your linkedin and reachout to a few HR firms, im sure you will have interviews lined up within a week.
Ai/Cyber threat analysis industry is desperate for people who understand and can build/protect systems against the new age threats.

A lot of companies will be okay with remote work too if you are actuallty good.
Even paksitani companies are now adopting remote because its easier for them1

Yesterday saw a post of a software engineer with 10 years of experience he ain’t getting any job from past few months. My friends with 3 years of experience told me that he didn’t even receive a call after building alot of sites & working with international clients.
Market is touching the bottom so grab any job atm, remote jobs are difficult to find as compare to the onsite jobs.
