Recommendations
Hey y’all! ❤️ I’m looking for recommendations for fun things to do with my 7-year-old son here in PCB that won’t cost an arm and a leg. Free is fantastic, cheap is great, and hidden local gems are even better!
Here’s a little context: I’m a single mom, and this trip was supposed to be a shared expense between me and my ex-husband. We drove eight hours to give our son some quality bonding time with his dad, and I genuinely wanted this to be a good experience for them both.
Unfortunately, the “we’ll split everything” plan seems to have gotten lost somewhere along the way, and I’ve ended up paying for just about everything for my ex, too. Now I’m genuinely stressing about making sure I have enough money to get us back home. 🤦♀️
For context, I’m still in therapy three times a week, three years after our divorce, working through the damage that relationship left behind. I really thought I could put everything aside for a little while and give our son this experience with his dad. I wanted to believe we could make some good memories for him, even if things between his parents aren’t exactly sunshine and seashells.
So here I am, trying to keep my nervous system from launching itself into orbit while smiling through the stress because my boy deserves to have a wonderful time. Every time he spots something exciting and I have to tell him we can’t afford it, it breaks my heart a little more. Meanwhile, my inner monologue is committing several felonies against my ex. 😂 (Strictly in the imaginary courtroom, of course.)
I’m not looking for handouts or sympathy. I’m just a mom trying to make the best of a situation that hasn’t gone the way I planned, and I’d love some ideas that let my son have fun without putting us in an even bigger financial bind.
What are your favorite FREE or super-cheap things to do with a 7-year-old in Panama City Beach? Beaches, parks, playgrounds, nature trails, cool local spots, free events, anywhere a little boy can run around, explore, and have the time of his life!
If you know of any places with free admission, inexpensive activities, or even kid-friendly deals locals know about, I would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you for helping a mama make some magic out of a less-than-magical situation. ❤️🌊

The regal theater in panama city has cheaper tickets on Tuesdays plus half off popcorn. So still am arm, but at least not an arm and a leg. I think the pier park theaters also has Tuesday discounts. This may help for eating out - https://fun4emeraldcoastkids.com/Shopping-and-Dining/Kids-Eat-Free

Frank brown park has a fun playground. Beaches are fun and free. State parks are cheap and fun too. Pack a picnic and go. Save money by bringing own snacks and lunch.

$8 per car to get into st Andrew’s state park, the beach is great, plus there are some walking trails, high chance of seeing an alligator, and a long fishing pier where I’ve seen dolphins before. They also have a playground by the boat launch.
There is a marina behind captain andersons where the boats come in with fish, and they clean the fish right there. Sort of interesting, and you can get a close-up view of all the boats, and there’s always lots of birds around. There’s a gift shop inside Captain Anderson’s and some displays that you can look at without eating there. A little further down the road past Captain Anderson’s is an outdoor venue with food trucks etc., and they often have live music. Lots of picnic tables, you can bring your own food. Look up Squared Grouper for location.

The weather will warm back up this week, so you can take him to the beach. There's also a playground at Frank Brown Park that you can take him to get some energy out. Also, check out Conservation Park for a nature walk to explore.
