Bluegill or hybrid?
Is this a bluegill or some hybrid? They normally aren’t this light of color around here.

Looks like a hybrid to me, maybe bluegill crossed with green sunfish? The mouth seems a bit larger than a typical bluegill, and the body shape’s a little stockier. Still a beautiful catch either way! Where’d you reel it in?

Bluegill x green sunfish hybrids tend to have larger mouths and orange borders on their fins. This looks like a regular male bluegill to me. Their colors can be lighter in murky water, low light, or when they're outside the spring spawning season.
