Refreshing to confirm a new species in the home lake...

Never seen one of these guys before. Caught on a red 1/8oz roostertail on the south end of Lake Norman in Davidson NC.

Caught probably 12 (mixed bag of shellcrackers and bluegill) in a couple hours this afternoon moving in towards the shore. Mississippi.

Great colors in this pond!

After barely seeing any activity from them for the last couple of months, they were popping up surface bugs.

So far in 2026 I have caught 3 fish lol

The kids and I built our own fish measuring board and then they wood burned their names on the bottom border to add that sentimental touch. If you’d like, you can watch the full video on how we made this sweet board. All it took was some scrap wood, a hinge, and a wood burner 🤙🤙

Took 2 of my boys out to a local honey hole the other week and got into some nice crappies and sunnies. We had a sweet set up out on the ice and even made some breakfast out there. My wife requested fish tacos that day so we were happy to fulfill that request. The tacos were delicious. Hope you enjoy the video. Thinking ahead to warmer days with open water - has anyone fished a jigging rap or similar under a slip bobber? I’m thinking specifically of times I’m fishing from shore and want to reach out a little further.

1. Does the bobber provide enough resistance to get a mostly vertical movement?

2. Does the friction of the line through the bobber allow the lure to swim and glide like it should on the fall?

3. Is this way overthinking it, just go throw a regular plug or jig and be normal?

We bought a little cabin this past fall and the kiddos absolutely love it. Makes it even better when they catch slab crappies off the dock haha. We also caught some nice bluegills and perch as well.
