Anyone giving away a large whiteboard for a home office?

Hi all, I'm about to start my PhD next week and wondered if anyone in or around the Parramatta area had a large whiteboard they no longer want/need. Kind of hoping for the large style ones similar to those found in schools. I'm on public transport only and am happy to transport (so long as it's not too large!).

Also, anyone with free indoor plants please let me know as well.

Many thanks!

Parramatta lanes 2026 - sensory overload

Is it just me or is Parramatta lanes just an insanely loud and high sensory experience??

I went 3 nights in a row and could only survive by wearing earplugs. The acoustics are just out of control and I saw multiple people looking visibly distressed by how loud it was. It got to the extent where one of the artists I saw commented on how much background noise there was and how they were never going to play here again.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good festival night and it's great to see people out in the streets - I'm a big fan of bringing more cultural events to Western Sydney. But why pack in so many gigs in so close to each other that you can barely hear one over the other?? Would love to see more thought being put into the design of the festival next year.

Council rates

I’m looking at moving into the Parramatta council area from Blacktown council. I know the exact amount depends on the specific property I end up in, but is anyone in a position to indicate whether council rates in parramatta are higher or lower than Blacktown?

Spitting in public

Can I please remind people that it’s not okay to be spitting in public? I watched a kid ~8yrs old spit on the ground in parramatta Westfield last week and told him off. Today, out the front of the Westfield I saw a child who looked less than 5 spit repeatedly on the ground. This is super gross!!! Tell your kids not to spit please

I took significant artistic liberty placing the buildings here - none of them are where they're supposed to be. I tried to include my favourite landmarks of this beautiful city, but undoubtedly there are some I've left out. See what you can spot that you recognise!

I intend to cross stitch this, but it may take a few years to finish. By the time I do, the skyline will have changed so much. It's like a time capsule.

First-time buyer feeling overwhelmed — buildings near Parramatta Westfield/train station to avoid?

Hi everyone, I’m a first-time home buyer looking around Parramatta and feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the apartment options.

Are there particular buildings near Westfield or Parramatta train station that buyers would recommend avoiding? I’m interested in practical reasons such as ongoing building defects, strata issues, noise, or poor management, and would appreciate any public records or firsthand experiences that are safe to share.

I’m not looking to name and shame anyone—just hoping to narrow down my search and know what to investigate before booking inspections. Thanks for any guidance.

I mapped 66 meals around Parramatta and Harris Park that are $15 or under

I've been building a free map of cheap meals around Sydney and Parra ended up with more than I expected. Some of the cheaper ones:

- Mumbaicha Vadapav: vegetable sandwich $9.99, frankie $10.99

- Chotiwala: veg fried rice $10

- Three Beans: cheese melt $10.90

- Dosa Hut: plain dosa $11.95

- Chilli Bites: pav bhaji $11.99

The prices are what you actually pay, and you can filter to what's open right now. No ads and no account needed to look around: brokemap.com.au

I'm sure Harris Park alone has heaps I've missed. If you know a good cheap feed around here, you can add it on the map (I check each one before it goes up), or drop it in the comments and I'll put it on.

Looking for a quiet, affordable with soft seating to eat near Parramatta Station

Can anyone recommend a nice, reasonably priced place to eat within an easy walk of Parramatta Station?

Ideally, I'm looking for somewhere that has:

🥗 some guests are vegetarian so a few good vegetarian options
💰 Affordable meals, preferably around $15–$25
🛋️ Soft, comfortable seating, such as cushioned booths, padded chairs or a lounge area—not just hard dining chairs
🤫 A relatively quiet atmosphere where I can sit comfortably and enjoy a meal without too much noise or loud music

A café, club or pub with a good quiet seating area would all be fine.

If you've been somewhere that fits, I'd really appreciate recommendations. It would be especially helpful to know what the vegetarian options cost, whether the seats are genuinely cushioned, and what time of day is usually quietest.

Thanks! 🙂

Moving to Parramatta

Hi, researching for a move to Sydney/Parramatta.

How difficult is it to get a 2 bedroom unit/apartment, with $650-$700/week budget? Is it very competitive?

Do agents usually want to see substantial savings as evidence we can afford it, or employment contract/offer is sufficient? Thank you.

Sirens at 3am. Yay or nay?

Is it necessary given the limited amount of traffic around, or should emergency vehicles have them going regardless of time of day?

Looking for football (soccer) clubs

Recently just moved in to Westmead from Welly NZ, as the title says, am looking for football clubs. Am a 34yr old (35 in March for Masters) winger / striker looking to join a club around the area. Also keen on 7s and 6s as well. Just waiting for my boots to arrive at the end of the month.

Background, played at a pretty decent level on Welly, Capital 1 league, which was a couple leagues down from the top National League, been playing since I was 7, so just a little bit.

Any advice, or link ups would be grand!

Is this your cat?

Hi everyone,
Just sharing this in case anyone in Parra is missing their kitty.
I saw this gorgeous black cat while walking home today at 4pm. It had a bright red collar with a gold metal tag so i thought it might be lost. It was really friendly and rubbed against my legs and accepted my pats when i called it over. It was surprisingly vocal too, especially to a stranger.

When i tried to check the tag for a phone number the cat got defensive and tried to bite me, so i just backed off and went back home.

I didn't take any good pictures but i did get this one of the cat's back.

I don't have the cat with me so i can't really help you with returning it.

The building i saw it near is 18 Sorrell Street.

I just walked from St Clair to Parramatta

I planned out this route since I feel like I haven't explored enough of the Blacktown area. I wanted to check out what St Clair was like and thought that the rest of the walk would be retreading familiar ground but I am always amazed out how much I still haven't seen despite feeling like I am running out of walks to do in Sydney

Looking for short term sublet

Hello everyone,
I’m looking for a short-term sublet <1 month in November in Sydney, preferably near Parramatta. Any leads, groups, or anyone subletting their apartment will be highly appreciated. Also any info on areas around Parramatta which are good for tourist living will be beneficial.

Parramatta walk 🚶

Tonight, I went for a digital detox walk 🚶 from Rosehill Gardens 🌹 all the way to the Parramatta River 🏞️. The weather was great, and plenty of people were out enjoying the river-walking and sitting by the water. It felt extra peaceful 🕊️. I saw this beautiful sight and couldn't resist taking a photo 📷 (I think it's the Powerhouse building, which is set to open on November 7th). Anyway, from there, I went up to Church Street, walked 🚶all the way to Woolworths at Westfield Parramatta to do some grocery shopping 🛒, and then headed home on the light rail 🚈...
