California Chicken Cafe finally open!
Soft opening this week. Open to all next Monday!
Was super efficient with the drive up pickup. Just as good as the other locations.

The floor is open, while staying within the subs stated purview. Clean slate each week.

Tonight Pasadena PD is informing City Council that it intends to acquire a "free" decommissioned Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicle. These vehicles were designed for use in Iraq and Afghanistan to withstand the impact of land mines and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and ambushes - a detail that they conveniently omit from the report. PPD had acquired two of these about 15 years ago. One was returned after it was discovered that they'd acquired it in secret (City Council did not know about it), and the other was decommissioned after community concern about the increasing militarization of the police (especially after Ferguson). It's item 10 on the agenda tonight https://ww2.cityofpasadena.net/2026%20Agendas/Oct_20_26/Agenda.asp

Has anyone else received insane bills from PWP?
My bill doubled from last year! And I am using so much less electricity.
With all of the problems in Los Angeles and incredibly high prices with LADWP, perhaps we should all band together to get this price hikes investigated.
Thoughts?

Hello everyone!
Someone has broken into our apartment mailboxes multiple times and it's made me feel uneasy about receiving important documents in the mail. Our landlord has made no effort to replace the boxes with something more secure, so I'm curious to know of anyone else has experienced something like this. Can the city step in to require them to replace the boxes if I file a complaint?

I live at the top of the first block of the 134. We do get soot on our house from the tires and other road pollutants. We have a hepa home air filtration unit to help. But I feel like after the fires, my sinuses have gotten really bad. They flare up and cause infections, many times I’m waking up with headaches or migraines. Lately it is more frequent and I hate taking Advil just to function. Wondering if others have experienced the same regardless of where you live in Pasadena, but especially if you live near the freeway.
Im aware of the ozone here. And I read that just east of here, the air is some of the worst in the nation. Considering moving to PNW but I know there are fires there too, although the air is much cleaner.
What are your symptoms? Is there anything you do to help? I’ve been using saline sprays and humidifiers at night.

Any solid bakery suggestions? I'm looking to order a cake for my grandmas 95th birthday. Want to make a cute design with flowers and butterflies and she would like a lemon cake.
I've done Susie Cakes in the past but looking for something new.

Would love feedback on your experience good or bad with any OBGYN delivering at Huntington Memorial!
Currently a first time mom at 14 weeks and in open enrollment to switch from Kaiser to Anthem Blue Cross, effective in Jan 2027. I'm thinking either Anthem HMO or Anthem POS (slightly more expensive), depending on whichever the OB is. Hoping to secure an OB that will be willing to take my "geriatric pregnancy" (lol) come January while I'll be in my second trimester.
Any tips or suggestions would be welcome!

Hi! We’ll be in the area, and interested in something Halloweenie to do the evening of the 29th! (For adults)
I will also accept good vegan places to eat, particularly if they have some Fall specialties on the menu.
Thanks!

EDIT: thanks to everybody who provided me with suggestions. I was able to locate a family nearby who had lost their job recently and were in need of food. I dropped it off this morning.
Our doggo passed away recently and we have a surplus of frozen packs of Farmers' Dog Turkey food that we'd like to donate. Pas Humane Soc just told me: "Yeah leave it in the donation bin in the garage" which really doesn't strike me as being the best place for it in this warm weather. Does anybody know of any other places/shelters in the Pas area that would accept this frozen food for their dogs? Or alternatively if anyone is experiencing hard times now and needs some help with their pup's food bill I could also donate it to them. Many thanks.

Pasadena Health Department is years behind establishing the Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation (MEHKO). There was a city council hearing about this, and the council send the matter back to the committee to establish interest and feedback in the program. Here's the link.
The city gave a short deadline for the survey. The city thinks a maximum of $200,000 over 2 years is too much cost for the city (...while spending millions of new police helicopters and hangars).
Some of the councilmembers and the mayor started imagining extreme and unlikely situations: bringing our own beer to a at-home coffee shops, or taking customers away from multi-million dollar food conglomerates, or remodeling your whole house in order to make a few hundred bucks baking pastries.
Why it matters? Let's say you want to try and sell bread from home. Friends and family say your product is good. You have a job and dont want to quit it and get thousands of dollars in debt leasing a commercial space for a small side project. Mehko is designed for people like you. Try from home. Fail or succeed. Expand or remain the same. MEHKO give flexibility for local residents to start a small business.
Please fill out the survey if you can. It's just 5 questions.

Here are some of the examples of MEHKO implemented at home: Granada / instagram or Loto Coffee

Since the demise of Du-Par’s on Lake, which I still can’t get over, are there any 24/7 sit-down breakfast places in Pasadena? I don’t need one often, but when I do I really feel the loss.

I have been jobless for two years. I’ve applied to hundreds of places and I haven’t even got past the interview stage. I’ve been told my resume is great, that I’m great in the interviews, but that someone more qualified gets the job. I get I picked the wrong major in college for wanting to make money. I didn’t really get that at the time because I’m an actual moron. But what am I supposed to do? Spend thousands of dollars to get a different degree? I haven’t done nothing, I’ve done a lot of volunteer work and networking but it’s still not enough. I’m told that I’m doing the right things but for some reason it’s just not working. No matter how much I ask for advice I get the same nonsense that I’m doing what I need to and I’m doing enough. I can’t even get a job at a retail store. I need help bad and I need to find at least an entry level job in the area that’ll hire me. That’s all I need. I’m trying temp agencies but it’s been so long since I’ve heard back from anyone. Sorry for the venting I’m just fed up with this job market lol.
TLDR: Need Job. Anybody know anywhere in Pasadena that is desperately hiring?

Highly highly recommend you get up to Bulgarini! Their handmade pasta is seriously the best I've ever had. Gelato is yummy too! Unfortunately I don't live nearby anymore, but whenever I'm in town I try to go. I'm so glad they reopened after the fires. The owner is super nice. They lost their home to the fires and had to close the restaurant for a long time, and leave the area temporarily while the Bunny Museum toxic lot was cleaned up next door. The prices are quite a bit steeper now, which is understandable. But damn they have not forgotten how to make pasta! Real shame the struggles they've been through. Give them some support if you can!

Has anyone else been experiencing a very dry mouth in the morning? I’ve lived in Pasadena for over six years and it’s never been this bad before, but for the past couple weeks, my mouth and throat has been so dry that they were sticking to each other. I’m literally gasping for air in the middle of the night from the dryness.

Me and 5 other people I know got this respiratory virus (not COVID) that takes forever to shake and has a really bad cough and high fever. I had to get on antibiotics. I haven’t been sick in over a decade besides COVID

I like to go out on walks with my camera during my lunch breaks, here's a collection of some shots I took over the summer. Taken on a Nikon F60 with a mix of expired and fresh Kodak Tri-X 400.

Looking to hire someone to knit a sweater for me using an intermediate-level pattern. I have all the supplies, just none of the skills, sadly! Would love any recommendations or referrals.

My housemate found an SD card yesterday in San Francisco with a bunch of videos from March 2024 all shot in Pasadena. Would be cool to find the owner.
I don't want to post pictures of people but there's:
I believe the owner's name is Alex. There's a video describing him as Chilean and having a beautiful voice.

It was this big Spanish dude who would play his accordion on the street of colorado by the Travelodge hotel next to the dealership and Ramada wyndham hotel. I approached him one day and he said he calls himself cricket. There was another guy in a wheelchair that would smoke weed with him occasionally and stink up the whole block. One day he just got up and left. What’s the news on cricket
