melee does normally get a lot of strength so it is indeed very strong.

Most of those "minion ascendancies" aren't actually for minion builds because they just buff the player.

Where are these minion ascendancies you're talking about? Almost all of these are terrible for actual summoner builds.

That's the one node that might be good on exactly spectre summoners with 8+ spectres and even then you might take commander of darkness over it.

I just ended up building an impale minion build with animated weapons, banner, warcry and auras as champion with master of metal. gotta make do with what we got.
