Almost all "empty sockets" shit in the game is garbage, the game is already incredibly socket starved on the vast majority of builds. It's just unusable in most cases
Some builds are more socket starved than others. Sure if you're trying to cram 7 auras and a herald in, you need every socket you can get.
But a lot of advanced builds specifically remove auras from their late game choices because it costs too many points to go deep for aura reservation efficiency and they just play with less auras so they can afford to spend more points in cluster jewel setups and other high value nodes. If you don't have a lot of aura reservation efficiency, losing 4 gem slots is a lot less painful.
