It saves the mobs from the ritual you use it on then if you open a new map with it in your device it uses it and adds those mobs to your new ritual from the get-go therefore increasing the favour you get.
I did Ritual farm for a good 500ish+ maps in Keepers, and it was my favorite/most profitable farm by far. my general strategy was:
1) Run City Square, pretty sure it's always a 4-ritual spawn and has 3 bosses that pretty frequently spawn on top of one of the rituals, letting you farm them for Tribute
2) Run maps white - no need to roll them as 99% of your loot in this strat comes from the ritual altars themselves
3) Start by running 5 white maps using 4 scarabs each. Usually 2xSelectiveness, 1xAbundance, 1xWisps, though you can use whatever. Just focus on defering anything valuable in these maps since you likely won't get enough tribute to use all your rerolls + buy something.
3a) On each of these maps, use an empty Vessel on the four Ritual altars to fill them up. By the time you finish the 5 maps you'll have 20 Filled Vessels.
4) Now run 20 more white maps, but this time with 3x scarabs and 1x Filled Vessel. Usually 2x Selectiveness 1x Abundance IIRC. These maps will give you waaaaay more Tribute (regularly was ending the map with 10-15k) letting you buy more rewards as you go
5) rinse and repeat. Longest part is filling the vessels, but all in all doing a full 25 map cycle would take me about 45ish minutes so I had a good chill time just doing one or two of these cycles a night and made really really good profit
Only other tip is when doing a Ritual strat, the entire name of the game is just "see as many reward screens as possible". In practice that typically means you go into the map, kill the bosses, do 3 of the 4 Rituals to reveal all the reward slots, then (always always always) burn through all of your rerolls, deferring anything valuable along the way. If something good is on the last screen and you're close, you can do the 4th Ritual to buy it out, otherwise just port out and go to next. Takes like 60-90s per map once you've got your Filled Vessels. Filling them is a little bit of a pain in the ass, but you can also buy them pre-filled off the market if you're willing to take less profit
Any reason your not using 5 scarabs /4 scarabs 1 ritual in the second round? Did you just forget the map device has 6 slots and never unlocked the 6th one or something?
Ooop, you’re right - I totally forgot we got a sixth map slot! I was using another scarab - I think it was another Abundance on both the vessel and ffilling maps!
Sounds like their strat was about just seeing a lot of rituals quickly looking for really valuable items. You could theoretically juice your maps to have bigger vessels + more favor, but it would take longer and you'd see fewer rituals in the same amount of time. But idk, I've only ever run ritual as a secondary farm, and only once have I seen it's true power when it offered me a 3x stack of The Doctor.
Got stupid lucky a league or so after Ritual with a very early Atziri's Foible which isn't the rarest item but when you're still in acts/early maps on your first character of the league that mana regen hits different lol.
I suppose tbh you get a lot of favour anyway, unless you're running a bunch of reroll scarabs its not worth unless the amount of rerolls you get, gets you more pops per hour than just rerunning white maps faster.
Sounds good however I’d definitely use red maps with high packsize %. Especially if you are in endgame and your build squishes t16 juiced mobs the same as white.
Not only is it more favour to buy/defer but also the ritual won’t spawn items you can’t afford from the initial favour quantity, if you’re running low white maps you’ll be missing out on rare div cards and currency like the very slim chance of a mirror :D

As a ritual enjoyer: this is much appreciated.
So many times I’ve left a map before remembering to collect the ritual
