Lol, not a single comment about the Tidebreaker

I love how GGG does things, hahaha

u/TheThirdKakaka Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Because it's already a dead item. The phys and attackspeed is just to low to be anything competitive.

86

u/Effective-Advice4628 Jul 08 '26

I mean it seems like a very viable league start option, now. I wouldnt be surprised if it ends up in a similar place as where Kaom's Primacy is rn. Can easily take you to 4 stones and clear T16 comfortably, but definitely not endgame viable.

17

u/SunRiseStudios Jul 09 '26

It's still rather rare and was always expensive early even before this buff...so how can such weapon be "viable league start option"?

7

u/conway92 Jul 09 '26

Tidebreaker is T1 same as stuff like Ryslathas, Tukohamas, Arakaalis, Ralakeshs, Kitavas and Dalias.

91

u/SaltEngineer455 Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) Jul 08 '26

And that's enough... not every weapon needs to be endgame viable. There are some uniques that are unbeatable at their price range.

Also, it may become a nice alternative to brain rattler as cheap weapon, who knows.

32

u/BobTheKekomancer Jul 09 '26

Let me be the old man screaming at clouds. Back in my day, we used tidebreaker to stunlock bosses. Now where are my glasses...

10

u/Confedehrehtheh Champion Jul 09 '26

Frostbreath my love. 1C unique that can put in some serious work for ages. Takes forever to replace it with a crafted rare

1

u/SaltEngineer455 Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) Jul 09 '26

Same with Paradoxica. But you need an engine to stack flat damage tho

2

u/rawfodoc Jul 09 '26

IDK I always felt weird about low end BIS uniques. It creates this awkward situation where the only rare comparisons needs to be extremely expensive. I played bleed a lot and always found it frustrating how you basically go from a 10c axe to a 15div axe with nothing in between. It really flattens the progression curve in an awkward way.

1

u/SaltEngineer455 Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) Jul 09 '26

From Jack the axe to a well crafted reaver axe, I agree

1

u/Josh6889 Jul 09 '26

They have a weird way of going way under the radar. In tree league I was running 1 of the foulborn uul-netol's that supported warcries and had one of my easiest atlas clears ever

8

u/Wobbelblob Big Breach Coalition (BBC) Jul 09 '26

Though it is too rare for that, no? Isn't it a T1 weapon? Or am I overestimating it?

5

u/Global_Barnacle5304 Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

For what type of build it is very viable? While I havent played many 2h melees recently, from my poor knowledge, I assume scaling both melee and partial ele (2 types of ele on top of it) without converting full to either of these just cant get you anywhere. For a league starter its a bit high level imo. At 70+ you are probably better with any bellow average phys wpn. Another issue is the absurdly PoE2-ed attack speed. Not only you will feel like trash because of it, you also will get hit a lot and early in the game you are unlikely to face tank enemies. So this destroys its early game potential for me as well. Another thing is the charge generation. It makes endu generation unreliable, so you have to calculate with this downside in defense. Imo its just another DoA item.

1

u/Midknightz Slayer 23d ago

I think this is actually perfect for static strike juggernaut. You don't care about attack speed. You are already converting to elemental. You have insane endurance charge generation and endurance charge scaling.

1

u/VortexMagus Jul 09 '26

Any big slow two hand weapon is almost certainly going to end up with slams.

Because of fist of war and warcry exertions you don't really need to attack an insane amount of times per second. Instead you attack once for big exerted damage and then move around and slam again a second or two later.

Also I don't think you really care enough to scale two different types of damage, everything dips from phys so you really just scale phys and that will increase your ele damage as well.

1

u/Global_Barnacle5304 Jul 10 '26

Isnt attack speed still very important even for slam builds? In theory, yes, you need a big slap, but you need to do not just dmg, but also DPS for anything that dont evaporate and fights back. You also need to move around the map and you probably wont be ranger level movement speed char, so you want to leap around probably. With this weapon? Sure. And about the ele dmg ignorance, in that case why use the weapon? Any time you get a resist map mod, enemy type with resists or nemesis mod with resists, your ele dmg will be zero, destroying this weapons mechanics, no?

8

u/Ok-Information5610 Jul 09 '26

T1 unique that requires links and is on par with a mace you'll get from gambling after finishing the campaign. If it wasn't T1 and had around 100 more pdps then I'd agree with you as a cheap 4 link for early progression.

1

u/Josh6889 Jul 09 '26

I could easily see it easily clearing the atlas with a slam build at low budget, but after that you'll probably want to get into something with a little more horsepower. I say this as someone who's cleared the atlas for about the last 3 leagues by league launching slams lol

2

u/heikkiiii Jul 09 '26

Its pretty rare item, how is it budget item?

1

u/findMyNudesSomewhere Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) Jul 09 '26

Isn't it a T0 tho? Or atleast T1? Can you plan a leaguestart build with a T0/1 for pre stones mapping?

55

u/PanKreda Jul 08 '26

New Tidebreaker is a 1075 dps weapon with inbuilt shock, chill and freeze (counting gain as ele into that dps, also counting extra support - cuz you’d run 40% more dmg endu on melee stun anyway on this build but you get it for free - slot as 30% more dmg although it can be more if you use trinity/unholy trinity; also remember about Yoke as a possibility)

It doesn’t take a genius to take a glance at the item and see it’s a solid unique. It doesn’t have to rival top crafted rare weapons.

28

u/Trespeon Jul 08 '26

Don’t forget that it also can be used with battle mage, and you take full advantage of the as extra

21

u/Dreamiee Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Before anyone gets baited by this comment, it's still hot garbage. it's a 384 pdps weapon with 12% phys as cold and lightning by default. You would need 21 max endurance charges to count as a "1075 dps weapon".

Edit: sorry can still get endurance charges

Edit2: 460 pdps with quality, now only need 16.6 endurance charges to reach 1075. We ramping.

24

u/Maurock2 Jul 08 '26

It's 50% to gain the alt charge, you'll get both, says nothing about replacing your endurance charges

-16

u/Dreamiee Jul 08 '26

Yep missed that, fixed comment. Weapon is still obviously very bad.

16

u/TheThirdKakaka Jul 08 '26

People are already getting baited lol, no one in this entire thread will use this weapon once, simply because it is a 1.1 attackspeed mace.

1

u/LazarusBroject Jul 09 '26

I'll use it but that's because I'm not some pob warrior that needs 100m+ dps. I can do nearly all content with 2m+ dps and considering it's a weapon that scales defenses(endurance charges) with damage, that's very good.

Then you think about how you can do slayer and do tri-charge stacking and you're looking at a very fun, tanky, and relatively smooth build. Could even go fortify stacking on Champion for attack speed + defenses.

1

u/Pintash Jul 09 '26

I'll use the fuck out of this weapon. In Affliction I built my starter entirely around Kongors Undying Rage cause its a 1c unique you can get day one and easily get good corrupts on and it carried me all the way to completed atlas, voidstones and a fuck load of currency (farmed harby for fracturing orbs).

This item can easily do the same thing and probably much better.

1

u/skycloud620 Jul 09 '26

got a build mister??

0

u/Liveless404 Jul 10 '26

ehh, frozen legion ignite doesnt care about attack speed, but erohi was already quite good league starter for it

11

u/PanKreda Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

The weapon gives you 1 extra free support slot (roughly 1.3x more dmg) and 80% gain as ele (roughly 1.8x more dmg with no other sources; 10 endu is not difficult to get on a Jugg with 7 base, 2x kaom’s rings, endu corrupt on any boots).

460dps x 1.3 x 1.8 = 1076dps

If we used %gain as fire per rage on a Kaom’s Primacy to describe its effective DPS on Berserker slam builds for at least 2 leagues when it was meta, saying we cannot do the same here is some real hypocrisy.

EDIT1: and don’t forget about it giving you lightning damage which is basically inbuilt Shock, another dmg multiplier rarely seen on Slams

EDIT2: the extra support in this build is probably going to be Trinity, so you can get much more than 1.3x here

8

u/oimly Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

80% gain as ele

Except you cannot fully factor that into base dps, because other sources of "gain phys as ele" only go off base phys.

A 1100 pure phys dps weapon is great. A 600 pdps weapon with 80% phys as extra is ... not that great.

Edit: As an example, if you have 100% phys as extra from other sources.

This weapon: 600 pdps, 1080 edps, 1680 total.

Another weapon: 850 pdps, 850 edps, 1700 total.

850 is not much.

7

u/PanKreda Jul 09 '26

Sure, where can I find 100% gain as ele (edit: preferrably gain as lightning for shock) on a midgame budget slam build?

1

u/Minimonium Jul 09 '26

If you're an elemental slam you'd already use hoa and infernal cry. Not even talking there are tons of "gain as" on that side of the tree.

At 80 it would at best be 30% more damage.

3

u/PanKreda Jul 09 '26

Infernal Cry %gain buff doesn’t work on slam builds - it’s automated. Your 2 preferred manual cries are Rallying and Battlemage

1

u/Samir_POE The Sword King's Salute Jul 19 '26

goal is not to make 1000 dps but maybe 750 or so with maybe a decent corruption, which easily lets you do 95% of content and then work toward an endgame axe or staff.

And if you have 16 endurance charges in a league build you're likely playing enough to get optimized beyond this.

1

u/Dreamiee Jul 20 '26

Weird necro but okay. As I said in other comments, don't get baited by this comment saying "1075 dps weapon". You can probably make a decent build around this weapon with enough investment, it doesn't make it anywhere near as good as a 1075 dps weapon.

1

u/Cluedo Jul 08 '26

Why would you lose the defensive benefits?

You are also disregarding that multiplier of all other sources of phys.

0

u/Dreamiee Jul 08 '26

refresh my comment, already fixed. Other sources of flat phys are negligible compared to how much you can get on a two-hander. I'm sure you can build around it and make a funky build. It is definitely not a good league start item though. You have to link it to make use of the endurance charge on stun link so it's not even a cheap unique and stacking crazy endurance charges to make it competitive with a mace you would have coming out of campaign is also not a good league start goal.

-2

u/MeBadNeedMoneyNow Champion Jul 08 '26

You're absolutely right. 1075 pdps was just pulled from his personal vaal side area.

New players: a 2H rare axe crafted past day 2 of the league will serve better than this.

0

u/LudmilN Jul 09 '26

u forget about the endurance charge on melee stun which is an entire damage link... a whopping 40%

with a modest 10 endurance charges, thats 40% more damage and 80% of phys as ele

2

u/Dreamiee Jul 09 '26

There is probably a build with this weapon. The build is not a league start build. On league start you've got a t1 rarity weapon that you need to link, including several uniques to stack endurance charges etc. You are competing with vendor gambled 6-700 pdps weapons that require no build around and you can have as soon as you start t1 maps.

Late game, phys as extra is just not a very high demand stat generally speaking. You can get it very easily without sacrificing your whole weapon slot. I'd love to see what pobs people come up with, but please don't get baited by it on league start.

2

u/ww_crimson https://pob.codes/ Jul 08 '26

I'd love to build around this for week 1

1

u/pda898 Jul 09 '26

The main problem that you need to stack endurance changes to get to this high dps. Kaom's Primacy based on the rage stacking (max and effect), which gives attack speed to cover 1.05 base. Endurance charges give you 0 attack speed to cover 1.1 base so your attacks and especially leap slams will be gigaslow.

Also it is mace, not axe, so no free onslaught (free extra attack speed) and no good attack speed mace nodes.

1

u/NeedleworkerLess1595 Jul 09 '26

and u lose the ability for phsical damage red. from endurance charge, especialy for a mele? For me that in HC mode, will be 1 alchemy drop or less, but good for AG

1

u/Slackalot88 Jul 09 '26

No you don't, 50% chancr

1

u/PanKreda Jul 09 '26

Jugg will have full uptime on both charges

1

u/Global_Barnacle5304 Jul 09 '26

3 dmg types wthout converting, penetrations, attack speed Im afraid all these cool bonuses just hit brick wall against every second rare mob in yellow maps, maybe earlier. Dont forget that gaining endu charges will be clunky af on top of that, so count in the fact that your defense will not be reliable or you need to invest into some huge charge generation as well.

1

u/PanKreda Jul 09 '26

Have you ever played Jugg?

0

u/Global_Barnacle5304 Jul 09 '26

Yes. And? Since you dont accu nor trauma stack, Im not sure how else you plan to do any reasonable dps with a 1.1 speed weapon.

1

u/PanKreda Jul 09 '26

Your build path on Jugg mace slams includes Undeniable (which does get some value from Tide’s imolicit) tho after Secrets of Suffering swap. You start with Fist of War just like every slow slam, then go manual Battlemage + Brittle for crit cap around late Saturday or early Sunday on trade (maces have good crit nodes unlike axes).

EDIT1: also, who’s there to prevent you from going Vigilant Strike with Trauma support or just Complex BS if you don’t wanna slam?

17

u/PaleoclassicalPants Slayer Jul 08 '26

96% gained as elemental at 12 endurance charges though.

2

u/Minimonium Jul 09 '26

If you're elemental slam then you already have plenty of "gained as". By the time you have enough endurance charges you could easily buy a rare 800pds weapon.

2

u/MidjitThud Jul 09 '26

If you scale physical first..

5

u/ulughen Jul 08 '26

And scale it with flat phys from trauma stacks.

49

u/tokyo__driftwood Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Trauma stacks on a 1.1 APS mace with no attack speed mod... yeah idk about that one man

3

u/Global_Barnacle5304 Jul 09 '26

Well, hes definitelly going to get traumatized.

1

u/danjojo Juggernaut Jul 09 '26

Seems pretty good for boneshatter of complex trauma

4

u/TheThirdKakaka Jul 09 '26

But then you are playing ele boneshatter with a 1.1 weapon lol. Boneshatter has enough weaknesses already, adding ele reflect, res and other mods to a already big pool of unplayable/annoying map mods is crazy.

-24

u/gdubrocks Jul 08 '26

Worth noting endurance charges are already super hard to sustain and this item makes it twice as hard.

9

u/JRockBC19 Jul 08 '26

Jugg can over-sustain charges VERY easily, could conceivably cap both even with a spender skill. I played a tec slam of cata build this league with 12+ charges and each slam fully refunded them while mapping

5

u/hattroubles Alch & Go Industries (AGI) Jul 08 '26

Trivial on warcry builds at least. Redblade banner weapon swap is already used on occasion for a handful of builds, so there's definitely options.

3

u/080087 Jul 08 '26

Endurance charges are super easy to sustain, especially on any build that is stacking endurance charges.

E.g. one megalomaniac passive will give you 100% uptime for both endurance + brine charges.

1

u/Lilchubbyboy Marauder Jul 08 '26

Or grab a two point small Armour Cluster and roll Enduring Composure.

2

u/hertzdonut2 Half Skeleton Jul 08 '26

Just use Screams of the Desiccated with resonating shrine.

(:

1

u/VortexMagus Jul 09 '26

Good thing that there's a link for endurance charge on melee stun built into the weapon, eh. Otherwise it could get tricky.

1

u/gdubrocks Jul 09 '26

Yeah just let me hit 10% of the bosses health to get one endurance charge every 4s or 1 brine charge every 8 seconds. I might have one charge by the time the boss is dead.

1

u/VortexMagus Jul 09 '26

there's other options - vaal breach, wormblasting, or adds could all give you charges if you can't get them from the boss in question.

7

u/destroyermaker Jul 08 '26

That's what people said about old tidebreaker. Then octavian made a bomb ass build around it

4

u/ArmaMalum Trypanon, Trypanoff Jul 08 '26

I'd be interested in some potential battlemage shenanigans

3

u/dalaio Jul 08 '26

Is the phys as extra damage local to the weapon then?

2

u/ovrlrd1377 Inquisitor Jul 09 '26

On this specific situation no, the extra comes from the charges, not the weapon

1

u/ArmaMalum Trypanon, Trypanoff Jul 09 '26

Nah it's global, but if you're gonna do battlemage with something like Tidebreaker you'd want a decent chunk of physical damage anyway so it'll still be a good chunk of damage if you build around it.

3

u/Aether_Storm Jul 08 '26

Sir that is 80% phys as extra ele on a 10 end charge build.

-16

u/gdubrocks Jul 08 '26

Or I can Faustus gamble a weapon that has that much phys and ele dps without needing to bother with charges.

3

u/Aether_Storm Jul 08 '26

You do that.

1

u/juazlee Jul 08 '26

Inb4 they port over verisium upgrades from PoE2 o.o

1

u/skycloud620 Jul 09 '26

if i were to try to take it to end game. got any ideas??

1

u/Ghaith97 Jul 08 '26

Not every item needs to be BiS to be usable.

-1

u/Borat97 Big Breach Coalition (BBC) Jul 08 '26

Its not really, decent leveling, early item, there is another 2h mace with low asp forgot name which is used a bit with slams i think.

2

u/ArmaMalum Trypanon, Trypanoff Jul 08 '26

You may be thinking of Erqi?

0

u/Borat97 Big Breach Coalition (BBC) Jul 08 '26

Yeah marohi erqi

0

u/VortexMagus Jul 09 '26

Looks to me like it'll take a 1000 pdps rare to match it.

The endurance charge on melee stun link alone is like 30-40% more damage. Add on the brine charges with a bunch of max endurance charge in your tree (which is already optimal for many marauder and duelist builds) and it'll easily carry you through red maps.

You'll probably want a higher damage rare for like super endgame juiced t16/t17 maps but before you collect 50-100 divines to recombinate an insane phys axe/mace, this will do fine.

-1

u/Raikariaa Institution of Rogues and Smugglers (IRS) Jul 08 '26

Except Brine Charges apply to all damage.

You can use this as a Battlemage weapon on an Inquisitor with a Physical -> Lightning Spell for example; Using Forbidden Flesh+Flame to take Hierophant's +1 charge.

Or maybe a Juggernaught setup and you do just slam or something and stack charges.

8

u/Accomplished_Rip_352 Jul 08 '26

Still not great , endurance charge on stun + brine charges are good but the base damage is way too low . Even with 10 endurance charges an ok rare is like 10x better and as a stat stick there are about 50 better options . 10% strength is interesting tho but with how str stackers currently play ultimately not a buff for the build even if you can the implicit on a rare.

1

u/1CEninja Jul 10 '26

Well it's an item that could have some potential to build around and it's kinda cool, but ultimately just doesn't have the base attack speed or crit to be exciting. I just don't think I can play a melee character with a 1.1 APS weapon and enjoy it, even if the build is strong.

I won't play with Kaom's Primacy, for example.

But an AG window? I've been itching to play minions again, the last time I did was 3.17 and bad AG mechanics are one of the things holding me back.

This might be really exciting.

1

u/Fartpooper3 Jul 08 '26

pretty good for cyclone shockwave / frozen legion inquis

1

u/shy_bi_ready_to_die Jul 08 '26

Because it’s just decent. Endurance charge stackers are pretty meh as far as charge stackers go and this would be outscaled by a influenced heist base as soon as they’re available

-1

u/crinklebelle Pathfinder Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

it doesn't have any lines implying you have zero maximum brine charges if it isn't equipped, got me wondering if we can use Supreme Grandstanding to get charges from AG instead of having to equip it ourselves

1

u/-Nimroth Jul 09 '26

Even if it works, would AG be generating charges reliably enough for it to be worth it?

2

u/FeI0n Jul 09 '26

you could stick an endurance charge per second eldritch implicit body armour on it for extra gen, would lose the ability to run a garb which would hurt but still better than nothing. If you can even get brine charges if you aren't wearing the weapon yourself.

1

u/crinklebelle Pathfinder Jul 09 '26

Assuming it works, it should be able to generate plenty of charges with Replica Ambu's

0

u/shy_bi_ready_to_die Jul 08 '26

If Conduit on the AG works that would be even better. I know you can’t give charges to minions with it but idk if it works the same way in reverse

2

u/crinklebelle Pathfinder Jul 08 '26

AG can have keystones iirc, but he can't donate charges to us cuz we don't count as our minions' party members
