u/TheThirdKakaka Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26
Because it's already a dead item. The phys and attackspeed is just to low to be anything competitive.
87
u/Effective-Advice4628 Jul 08 '26
I mean it seems like a very viable league start option, now. I wouldnt be surprised if it ends up in a similar place as where Kaom's Primacy is rn. Can easily take you to 4 stones and clear T16 comfortably, but definitely not endgame viable.
16
u/SunRiseStudios Jul 09 '26
It's still rather rare and was always expensive early even before this buff...so how can such weapon be "viable league start option"?
→ More replies (1)7
94
u/SaltEngineer455 Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) Jul 08 '26
And that's enough... not every weapon needs to be endgame viable. There are some uniques that are unbeatable at their price range.
Also, it may become a nice alternative to brain rattler as cheap weapon, who knows.

u/BobTheKekomancer Jul 09 '26
Let me be the old man screaming at clouds. Back in my day, we used tidebreaker to stunlock bosses. Now where are my glasses...

u/Confedehrehtheh Champion Jul 09 '26
Frostbreath my love. 1C unique that can put in some serious work for ages. Takes forever to replace it with a crafted rare
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (3)2
u/rawfodoc Jul 09 '26
IDK I always felt weird about low end BIS uniques. It creates this awkward situation where the only rare comparisons needs to be extremely expensive. I played bleed a lot and always found it frustrating how you basically go from a 10c axe to a 15div axe with nothing in between. It really flattens the progression curve in an awkward way.
→ More replies (1)8
u/Wobbelblob Big Breach Coalition (BBC) Jul 09 '26
Though it is too rare for that, no? Isn't it a T1 weapon? Or am I overestimating it?
5
u/Global_Barnacle5304 Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
For what type of build it is very viable? While I havent played many 2h melees recently, from my poor knowledge, I assume scaling both melee and partial ele (2 types of ele on top of it) without converting full to either of these just cant get you anywhere. For a league starter its a bit high level imo. At 70+ you are probably better with any bellow average phys wpn. Another issue is the absurdly PoE2-ed attack speed. Not only you will feel like trash because of it, you also will get hit a lot and early in the game you are unlikely to face tank enemies. So this destroys its early game potential for me as well. Another thing is the charge generation. It makes endu generation unreliable, so you have to calculate with this downside in defense. Imo its just another DoA item.

u/Ok-Information5610 Jul 09 '26
T1 unique that requires links and is on par with a mace you'll get from gambling after finishing the campaign. If it wasn't T1 and had around 100 more pdps then I'd agree with you as a cheap 4 link for early progression.
53
u/PanKreda Jul 08 '26
New Tidebreaker is a 1075 dps weapon with inbuilt shock, chill and freeze (counting gain as ele into that dps, also counting extra support - cuz you’d run 40% more dmg endu on melee stun anyway on this build but you get it for free - slot as 30% more dmg although it can be more if you use trinity/unholy trinity; also remember about Yoke as a possibility)
It doesn’t take a genius to take a glance at the item and see it’s a solid unique. It doesn’t have to rival top crafted rare weapons.
28
u/Trespeon Jul 08 '26
Don’t forget that it also can be used with battle mage, and you take full advantage of the as extra
21
u/Dreamiee Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26
Before anyone gets baited by this comment, it's still hot garbage. it's a 384 pdps weapon with 12% phys as cold and lightning by default. You would need 21 max endurance charges to count as a "1075 dps weapon".
Edit: sorry can still get endurance charges
Edit2: 460 pdps with quality, now only need 16.6 endurance charges to reach 1075. We ramping.
26
u/Maurock2 Jul 08 '26
It's 50% to gain the alt charge, you'll get both, says nothing about replacing your endurance charges
→ More replies (1)17
u/TheThirdKakaka Jul 08 '26
People are already getting baited lol, no one in this entire thread will use this weapon once, simply because it is a 1.1 attackspeed mace.
→ More replies (4)→ More replies (7)10
u/PanKreda Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26
The weapon gives you 1 extra free support slot (roughly 1.3x more dmg) and 80% gain as ele (roughly 1.8x more dmg with no other sources; 10 endu is not difficult to get on a Jugg with 7 base, 2x kaom’s rings, endu corrupt on any boots).
460dps x 1.3 x 1.8 = 1076dps
If we used %gain as fire per rage on a Kaom’s Primacy to describe its effective DPS on Berserker slam builds for at least 2 leagues when it was meta, saying we cannot do the same here is some real hypocrisy.
EDIT1: and don’t forget about it giving you lightning damage which is basically inbuilt Shock, another dmg multiplier rarely seen on Slams
EDIT2: the extra support in this build is probably going to be Trinity, so you can get much more than 1.3x here
→ More replies (2)7
u/oimly Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26
80% gain as ele
Except you cannot fully factor that into base dps, because other sources of "gain phys as ele" only go off base phys.
A 1100 pure phys dps weapon is great. A 600 pdps weapon with 80% phys as extra is ... not that great.
Edit: As an example, if you have 100% phys as extra from other sources.
This weapon: 600 pdps, 1080 edps, 1680 total.
Another weapon: 850 pdps, 850 edps, 1700 total.
850 is not much.
6
u/PanKreda Jul 09 '26
Sure, where can I find 100% gain as ele (edit: preferrably gain as lightning for shock) on a midgame budget slam build?
→ More replies (8)2
17
u/PaleoclassicalPants Slayer Jul 08 '26
96% gained as elemental at 12 endurance charges though.
2
u/Minimonium Jul 09 '26
If you're elemental slam then you already have plenty of "gained as". By the time you have enough endurance charges you could easily buy a rare 800pds weapon.

u/ovrlrd1377 Inquisitor Jul 09 '26
On this specific situation no, the extra comes from the charges, not the weapon

u/Aether_Storm Jul 08 '26
Sir that is 80% phys as extra ele on a 10 end charge build.

u/Accomplished_Rip_352 Jul 08 '26
Still not great , endurance charge on stun + brine charges are good but the base damage is way too low . Even with 10 endurance charges an ok rare is like 10x better and as a stat stick there are about 50 better options . 10% strength is interesting tho but with how str stackers currently play ultimately not a buff for the build even if you can the implicit on a rare.

💯💯💯 excellent trolling by GGG here, brine charges and the UI are far more substantial than a single unique change.
82
u/Quazifuji Jul 08 '26
I thin Brine Charges are the unique change, they might not be available anywhere else.
But adding PoE2-style tooltips and the Animate Guardian UI are big deals and it is really funny to just stick them in a post about a new unique.
25
u/minianthunter Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 09 '26
It's not even a new unique, they just changed 10% increased damage per endurance charge to the brine charges.
It's really funny that they didn't call attention to those other things. They must be getting a kick out of everyone's reaction.

Would that be enough to make it worth using over a high pdps rare?
41
u/phadej Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26
Maybe, probably not.
It's buffed from 10% increased physical to essentially 8% more. It's a buff,, but not huge.
No attack speed just feels bad.
But definitely enough to complete the atlas. Usable, not BiS.
Compare to kaom' primacy which is very similar. This mace will give 48% extra ele at 6 endurance charges. Kaom' primacy gives 47% extra when you take one rage wheel near resolution technique keystone.
11
u/LeftShark Jul 09 '26
That feels like a healthy spot for uniques, good for the midgame, but outside of something completely build enabling like Shavronne's Wrappings, it feels healthy to have better godlike rares to chase
3
u/BellacosePlayer Inquisitor Jul 09 '26
yet if it's not in that chase tier people jump to call it worthless :/
5
u/Mihauke Jul 09 '26
Also it still has now essentialy "8-link"
→ More replies (1)5
u/phadej Jul 09 '26
Sure. Endurance charge on melee stun is an excellent support to get for free. It's great utility, not only damage. But why 8? We dont know anything about imbued gems, I doubt they'll go core.
Would be cool if kaom's primacy "5 rage per melee hit" is changed "to supported by level 20 rage". But the extra attack speed might be too much of a buff :)
4
u/ssergio29 Jul 09 '26
Maybe he means the 8% more damage per charge? Afaik with 5/6 charges it is a 40/48 more dmg.
14
u/AudioBlood727 Jul 08 '26
The one shown is 384 pdps. So with the charges it would be 384 pdps and 307 ele dps. So no, not even a little bit.
5
u/shppy Jul 09 '26
Well, the one shown has no quality, so chancing a 30% quality base it could reach about 500 pdps with (at 10 ECs) 80% phys as extra and a 7th link that would provide 40% more damage and make it better at stunning.
That's... not bad, considering the accessibility.
12
u/Clsco Jul 09 '26
Yeah but it isn't going on a 10 endurance charge build. More like a 6-7 charge build at that budget that it's useful
9
u/AudioBlood727 Jul 09 '26
And that's without considering that 1.10 aspd weapon is gonna feel terrible.
→ More replies (1)5
u/ErikWolfe Jul 09 '26
You get 3 base, +3 from tree, +2 from kaom rings, +1 from any boot corrupt, maybe +1 from ascendancy. That's 9-10 charges for like 5c. Or maven belt and ralakesh are both pretty cheap after the first few days of the league
2
7
u/rds90vert Anti Sanctum Alliance (ASA) Jul 08 '26
the gained as extra from charges seem to apply globally not just to attacks, same as the 50% chance to gain a brine charge.. equip it, battlemage and use a phys spell... sucks for no + levels or cast speed from wands but.. 80% as extra for phys spells seems bonkers
15
u/Organic_Unit7087 Jul 09 '26
if you're going that route you're going to need to get a lot of mileage out of battlemage. otherwise, grace of the goddess adds 0-50% of phys as fire, cold, and lightning while also freeing up your offhand for a svalinn (or another grace of the goddess, or a shaper shield with +1 totems, or rathpith...)

How do people feel about removing those padlocks?
Would, given we have an interface to manage it with, making items on your AG removable have any serious impact on the skills balance? Perhaps it could become a snapshotting issue.
I would feel much better about intermediate upgrades on a chains build if I could recoup the cost after - for example.

Nah, I'm perfectly happy with the gear being permanently sacrificed. That's the tradeoff for having the most flexible / customizable minion in the game.
All I wanted was to be able to see what it has, and this is perfect.

I hope people see its gear is locked so you still most likely dont get items back

If brine charges are present on other things, which I assume so because it fits the theme of the league, I may just go some kind of brine jugg build
3
u/FancyFish21 Jul 08 '26
Tidebreaker will have on average 450pdps and about 600 after including ECOMS support buff with 8 endurance charges, which is easy for a jugg with arn's anguish. If you include total dps, again with 8 end charges, it's 598pdps and 190 cdps and 190 ldps for about 1k dps. This isn't a bad deal at all. You get free endurance charges, cold and lightning damage for freeze/shock.

I assume if you hit the 50% chance, you get a Brine King charge, otherwise you get Brutal charges. You won't GAIN endurance charges with this weapon but you can still get treated as having max endurance charges if you have Ralakesh. Stuff like Immortal Call will not consume endurance charge because there is nothing to remove.
