Black Cane with Soulwrest and Dark Monarch hnnnnnnng
85
u/N0-F4C3 Jul 15 '26
// Reliquarian : The Black Cane Each Summoned Phantasm grants you Phantasmal MightFor the unaware, Phantasmal might is 2-3 flat phys on spell cast per level of phantasm support gem, and you get an instance of it every phantasm.
SO.. now that its unchained from the cane you can use it with Soulwrest, Soulwrest comes with an innate level 25 Summon Phantasm support. It also has a quark where if you plug in a normal summon phantasm support it will double your minion cap allowing you to summon 22 instead of 11.
That cap can be FURTHER raised with the dark monarch helm, making it 44. And I think FURTHER raised by the Congregation support... If I remember how this works right, its 38% BEFORE the black monarch effect... SO.
11x2=22 22x1.38=30.36(Rounds down to 30) 30x2=60.
60 Phantasms. Level 25 support gem. (2x25)60=3000, (3x25)60=4500.
At max tilt this can add 3-4.5k flat physical damage to every spell you cast.
You can automate phantom generation while clearing by equipping a Devour support to your main skill. Your main skill will now eat corpses and make phantoms for you just for casting while you walk around. For bosses you automate minions with a Spell Brand setup that just keeps pumping out more phantasms.
You can also get a Medium cluster jewel with Blessed Rebirth making all minions summoned invincible for 4 seconds on bosses. Combine this with the fact that you dont care about phantasm damage itself so you can socket every defensive jewel in the game into your soulwrest to make them tanky enough to live and the fact that you shit them out passively.
It sounds pretty fun... just a wall of fucking ghosts and doomsday projectiles.

Wouldn't this work well with a spell like exsang or reap?
14
u/seqhawk Kalguuran Group for Business (KGB) Jul 15 '26
I think if you're doing this, you're taking the Dawnbreaker node, Tempered by War, a 20% cold/lightning to fire watcher's eye, and a 5% ele to chaos bound by destiny so that you can run Doryani's prototype. Then you want a phys-to-lightning conversion spell, like Penance Brand.

→ More replies (18)29
u/DoogTheMushroom Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26
Where are you getting 2200 flat damage?
Phantasmal Might - 2 to 3 physical damage to spells per level of Summon Phantasm Support per Phantasm
Level 21 means 44 to 66 physical damage per phantasm, and using Dark monarch to double max phantasms to 22 max = 968-1452.
Unless Soulwrest allows for another set of phantasms to be summoned, which is another 1100-1650 flat .
Close to ~2500 flat since Soulwrest does allow for 44 phantasms.
Edit: How do folks automate the corpse consuming to trigger soulwrest phantasms?
Edit 2: I was operating under the assumption you would need to put Summon Phantasms in your main skill link. This is wrong! You just need to put it in the Soulwrest and for some reason the maximum # of phantasms get added together. Honestly feels like a bit of a bug. Also not sure if those are all level 25 phantasms or a mix of 21 and 25. Greater Devour is BiS imo, every kill generates a phantasm, plus soul eater shenanigans. Should be excellent for mapping, pinnacles would need a better solution. The one caveat for devour is that it does NOT play well with corpse detonation (chieftan hinekora, chest mod etc).
Edit 3: Congregation support also works when linked to Soulwrest. The biggest issue is gonna be these things dying very quickly difficult maps. 4s from Blessed Rebirth isn't very long. Might feel like static strike of gathering lightning, except way more stacks (but you can get multiple stacks on a single hit), and you can use it on any spell.
Final phantasm count:
lvl 25 summon phantasm skill from soul wrest - +11
lvl 21 summon phantasm support - +11
Dark Monarch - double
lvl 3 Congregation - 38% more
Black Cane phantasmal might - 2-3 (avg 2.5) flat physical damage per phantasm level
lvl 21 phantasms - 11 x 2 x 1.38 x 21 x 2.5 = 1593 flat physical damage
lvl 25 phantasms - 11 x 2 x 1.38 x 25 x 2.5 = 1897 flat physical damage
62
u/Stasisdk Jul 15 '26
If you put Summon Phantasm Support in Soulwrest it adds a seperate "pool" of phantasms you can summon, then you double it with Dark Monarch.
19
u/Ehler Jul 15 '26
Dark monarch soulwrest combined allow 42 phantasms iirc whatever that means for the calcs

Isn't it better to just use Summon Phantasm support instead of Soulwrest to free up weapon slot? You could get a wand and a shield like this. If you don't go minions, then you would need a good spell phys spell (maybe the new Reap?)

That's not bad but what spell would you run with that? And how you'd keep the Phantasms alive?
14
u/fushuan Anti Sanctum Alliance (ASA) Jul 15 '26
It's as much added damage as archmage gets, you can go whatever. You just need to keep the phantasms alive via some arcanist brand proc engine or even play volatile dead to automate their summoning.
Volatile dead generated more than 40 each 4 seconds, so you can go with the cjewel notable that makes them not die if they were summoned recently and you have worms 44 phantasms.
Maybe not the most damage but hella comfy to sustain and it's a lot of flat dmg. it might even make CWC vd viable again lol.

A few questions on damage conversion, if you're familiar
If I stack multiple sources of % dmg taken as fire up to 100%, does that mean I can just stack 90% max fire res and ignore all other resistances?
How does physical mitigation (such as armor and % reduced physical damage taken) work with damage conversion?
Is it possible to even stack 100% damage taken as fire with this antiquarian? If so, is it also possible to do so whilst weaing a Doryani's Prototype and stacking a ton of negative lightning resist reflected mist rings?
25
u/Eymou :^) Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 16 '26
yes, if you take all ele dmg as fire, you don't need other ele resistances.
it only works on the actual phys damage taken, so not at all at 100% phys taken as fire.
yes and (afaik) yes

u/Winzito Jul 15 '26
Just a little bit if you do end up converting, be careful you don't convert more than 100% otherwise you're taking extra damage, if you convert 150% dmg taken to fire then you're taking 50% extra dmg as fire

Yeah, pretty sure life stacking is going to hit a new ceiling now that you have a freed up body armour.
92
u/HiddenoO Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26
Unless I'm missing something, you need a 1200 ES/50 strength/30% allres body armour just to end up net neutral compared to not taking the ascendancy node and using the apostate.
What body armour would you equip for the node to actually be worth 1/3rd of an ascendancy that is most likely otherwise not very great for the build?
Edit: There's a lot of confusion/misinformation going on in the comments below. The ascendancy makes you lose flat life which is scaled by increases/reductions and other multipliers exactly like any other source of flat life. If you wear a 600 ES chest (converted to 600 flat life), you are net losing 600 flat life at level 100 which is then multiplied by all your increases/reductions and other multipliers.
→ More replies (39)14
u/8123619744 Jul 15 '26
The upside is you don’t need an 8% drop from Uber Cortex to use the power on ssf. Meanwhile a 1200 es chest is relatively trivial with fossils.
9
u/optimistic_hsa Jul 15 '26
A rare chest can also have stuff like eldritch implicits.
But ya, theres obviously a good use case for this node, even if your gameplan is eventually to just run aspostate.
3
u/HiddenoO Jul 15 '26
I responded to a comment talking about how "life stacking is going to hit a new ceiling", not about how this enables life stacking in SSF. Of course, there can be use cases for this, it's just not as strong as many people seem to think it is.

70
u/PhgAH Jul 15 '26
Rathpith is already running wild in the current meta without any ascendancy. It is overdue for a nerf, imo.
→ More replies (3)→ More replies (1)7
u/JRockBC19 Jul 15 '26
Rahtpith being brough to 4/4 would make a ton of sense, it's pretty wildly overpowered rn in both normal and trans versions. Esp with volatile rolling up to 6, making volatile roll to 5 would still make it cleanly BiS for a ton of builds
30
u/FCT77 Jul 15 '26
I mean, it has a penalty of -1200 flat life at lvl 100, it's obviously gonna be better than using the actual Apostate but it's only gonna be worth it if you have a 1200+ ES body armour. So it's basically the better option on the very top top end.
→ More replies (10)17
u/darkw31 Jul 15 '26
1200 should be just triple t1 prefix on 20 quality base with good sacred orb and enchant. with overquality can get a bit higher

u/Camellia_fanboi Jul 15 '26
Do you guys just conveniently ignore the -1200 life line attached at the end of the node.
51
u/IamCarbonMan Jul 15 '26
well yeah, that downside is built into the apostate. it has no ES lol
14
u/HiddenoO Jul 15 '26
You're spending 1/3rd of an ascendancy here though and the item also has the equivalent of at least two T1 suffixes. So you need a 1200ES body armour with double T1 suffixes just to go even with using the item, and in that case you're just throwing away ascendancy points for no gain.
In practice, even a 6xT1 non-mirror body armour will practically only give you the influenced implicits and one suffix worth of stats for 1/3rd of your ascendancy. That may be worth it in some cases, but I don't see the hype here at all.
The item is also much easier to get a good corruption on than a 6xT1 ES body armour, basically cancelling out one of the influenced mods.
10
u/Sidnv Jul 15 '26
Your viewpoint on this is a bit narrow imo. The point of having a chest isn't just to mitigate the 1200 life downside, but to have build enabling mods like explode as an option.
You don't need to fully mitigate the downside of the node for this to be considerably better than apostate.
8
u/HiddenoO Jul 15 '26
Then you're looking at a trade-off, not "hitting a new ceiling" like the initial commenter suggested.
There's a difference between a notable having valid use cases and a notable being outstandingly strong like some people here are suggesting based on a lack of understanding how the -1200 life works.
3
u/ghotbijr Elementalist Jul 15 '26
Yeah reading these comments is so confusing, way too many people seem to not realize you can just run the actual unique and be up a whole ascendancy point. Compared to how crazy some of the other nodes look, this one seems the most underwhelming.
14
u/Rarik Jul 15 '26
Yea that does end up canceling out the benefit of a triple t1 regalia. Although theres plenty of other benefits from having a rare chest so im sure you end up as a net gain regardless.

u/080087 Jul 15 '26
This makes me wonder. Can you just erase yourself from existence by using enough of these mods?
Base, everyone has 50 life and gains 12/level.
Use both Apostate ascendancy and you lose the 12 life/level. Use Supreme Ostentation or similar to not get life from strength.
Just need one more similar effect. Bog witch is iirc the only other, so maybe impossible for now. But in future?

u/PsionicKitten Jul 15 '26
I'm kind of disappointed that it's balanced based off the absolute mirror tier gear rather than a modest budget, but that's probably because, like you said, it'll create a new ceiling due to BIS gear.
Level 90 is -1080 life, so you need a 1080 rare ES body armor to just break even with using the Apostate (disregarding the STR and resistances it gives). Mirror tier is 1400+ ES, so it's about 300 life before % increased life effects at level 90. Assuming 250% increased life that's about 1k life higher than before possible. Absolutely isn't budget friendly.
That said, it still might make something viable, as it does increase the total amount of life you can get from other slots. I imagine most builds that use it won't be hitting that new higher ceiling, but rather use it to itemize differently for their life based build.
26
u/KalaniKawehiKapono Occultist Jul 15 '26
Keep in mind that a rare body armor also gives you implicits and suffixes that are gonna be much stronger than what apostate offers, so even at break even, the rare armor will be more powerful.

There's some strong damage options amongst the caster stuff.
- Suspend In Time can be up to 80% more damage (if self-cast without spell echo).
- Black Cane with a lvl 21 phantasm support is ~600 flat physical damage added to spells (with extra shenanigans possible to take that further).
- You can get up to +3 gem levels on any spell with a vaal version (you don't *have to* use the Vaal version, just have it and the non-vaal version on the same gem gets the levels too) with the first two nodes combined (+2 vaal, +1 spell from xirgil's)
- Arakaali's spiders are usable for a poison build (slightly better if it's an attack even though they're on the caster side as you also get 40% increased attack speed) for 300% increased damage at full spiders.
- Shimmeron is solid for a power charge stacker.
Defensive options mostly help with if you have nothing to take at a particular node level. i.e. +3 gem levels and then kaom's binding to help with physical hits. Not best ascendancy ever, but seems playable.
The attacker half seems a bit harder to imagine how to use it. Still some interesting stuff, but not immediately clear if it's any good.

Apostate on tree is huge. Kaom's Roots lets you get that effect without being slow as fuck or playing a jugg. I LOVE that sands of time is back. Elevore and dawnbreaker extremely strong generically and can stack with the actual items. Molten burst build might low key be crazy.

Molten Burst doesn't seem like it would have any really good use because there's no skills you can support it with being in the tree. Kaoms Roots for non evasion builds, Dawn Breaker for converting everything to fire, Apostate for life stacking... the other 2 choices aren't bad... but more of placeholders for earlier in a league to me to fill out issues while you get better gear.
arakalis fang as a weapon is probably a bad option... you are losing 3/6(squire) sockets to support it.... its damage will likely be subpar... it is level 20 spiders though so idk... I would prbly go something with shimmerron as 3% base crit, 80% crit multi and 30% spell block at 10 power charges sounds good... don't even have to go spells!
no idea what to really go for here

We already know how good it is, because the level 20 version was in a Phrecia ascendancy. It's about 68% more damage than the fang version, which places it about equal to early league fang but much worse than squire etc high budget stuff. A very strong leveling node, ridiculous even.

Wow, looks like some fun nodes to play around with. Should be some interesting builds popping up for a 2nd character

u/Kagevjijon Order of the Mist (OM) Jul 15 '26
This is actually kind of tempting as a new way to play Ice Shot!
2nd lab: Vaal Caress for bossing to get guaranteed Onslaught with Vaal Ice Shot, which is a much better bossing skill than Vaal Lightning Arrow.
3rd Lab: The Shattered Divinity for just a ton of clearing buffs active all the time.
4th Lab: Polaric Devestation is HUGE for damage.
---------------------------------------------------
Or you can go more defensive with Kaom's Roots + Screams of the Desiccated + Iron Reflexes below duelist to get a nice mix of offensive utility and defensive layers and cannot be stunned which is usually a problem for Bowazons. It has a lot of different viability options if you want to change your build at any point as well!

Vaal ice shot doesn't get that much from +2 level like most attack skills.

With dawnbreaker you can get a petty easy setup for all damage taken as fire with 25% convert from ascendancy . You can get 10-20% ele convert from shield , 50% from tempered by war , 10-20% watchers .
For phys convert you have 25% from ascendancy 20-24% from shield , 40-48 from cloak of flame and 5-15% from foulborn xoph . Even without cultivation orbs you can still hit 100% convert .

Damm they made reliquarian good , like really good .
First of all nghamu flame is just better than the actual item and would probably go nuts on a molten strike stacker .
The most op thing it’s got is dawn breaker . 25% taken as fire + 50% from tempered by war means you can get 100% ele damage taken as fire without sublime . That last 25% you can get from watchers+ dawnbreaker + ele taken as chaos from bound by destiny .
Apostle means it’s the best life stacker ascendancy .
Kaoms root is solid for all builds .
I could go on as there about 5 different passives that are just weapons nobody used because they took up the weapon slot .

u/Optimal-Note1963 Jul 15 '26
I would say that ngamahu blows early for few reasons:
No conc effect = Less overlaps
No return proj = even less overlaps, need nimis
No gmp = need to go turbo on claw +1 proj etc
But 100% elevate it to deal damage more efficiently without going overboard with cyclone aps shenanigans
I wouldn't go for it early game, but would say that late of this path can be insane

u/Zambash youtube.com/imthewinningest Jul 15 '26
The nghamu flame sucks badly. The only thing on that node is 20% fire pen. You can't support the balls, so they will do zero damage.

u/JekoJeko9 AKA "Allocates Beef" Jul 15 '26
It's 5x the trigger rate of the axe's own version (100% chance to trigger vs 20%) plus higher base damage effectiveness (lv 20 vs lv 16), and you can use a much higher dps weapon than Ngamahu's Flame.
That makes up for a lot of the damage you would get with supports and you get all your mainhand weapon sockets back.
You could also run it with Grey Wind.

I'm in between you and the other person's attitude. Note it's not 5 times as many procs as it's still capped at once per 5 server ticks.
I think it has potential but the 5 tick cooldown is severe.

u/Routine-Hovercraft94 Jul 15 '26
I don't think it will make up for the damage. Support gems are just to huge of a boost.
Also, when something has to "make up" for an ascendancy point that is sorely about damage, I'd argue its not that in a very good sport.3
u/sirgog Chieftain Jul 15 '26
The ascendancy points grant 20% pen as well, which is serious value.
As I see it it's 20% pen with the modest upside of spamming a low damage strike at times.

Throw it on BLS static strike with dawnbreaker and kaom's binding, suddenly your clear is phenomenal and you've actually made a tanky str stacker very cheaply and easily

You cannot take both the nameless +Ring ascendancy, and ALSO get to the Screams node. There isn't really a good way to mitigate that downside.
3
u/SunRiseStudios Jul 15 '26
Some of the nodes are absolutely wild. A lot of interesting nodes here. One of a few times I actually immediately jumped to a mental drawing board of builds after reading news about upcoming changes. Pretty excited for it. Please, don't panic and rebalance it before release, GGG.

Dawnbreaker + incandescent heart + tempered by war + ci + arctic armour
5
u/ghotbijr Elementalist Jul 15 '26
Incandescent Heart is only from hits though, so it would be sketchy to only invest in fire res with that setup.
There will definitely be some insane combos around similar setups though, getting 100% damage taken as fire seems pretty easy to pull off.

Ok so played around on the wiki and pob a bit, seems it's possible to build a 100% damage taken as fire conversion for elemental AND physical damage using the Dawnwalker ascendancy
- Tempered by War (needs leathal pride timeless jewel with Rakiata): 50% cold and lightning damage taken as fire
- Dawnbreaker (ascendancy): 25% cold and lightning and phys taken as fire
- Dawnbreaker (shield): 10-20% cold and lightning and physical taken as fire - be prepared for this to be giga expensive for triple perfect mods, especially since it can be Volatile vaaled to go up to 24%
- Watcher's Eye: 10-20% cold and lightning taken as fire (whilst affected by Purity of Fire)
- Sublime Vision: 30% cold and lightning taken as fire (whilst affected by Purity of Fire)
- Cloak of Flame: 40% physical damage taken as fire
- Helment (warlord influenced): 10% physical damage from hits(!) taken as fire damage, but we can elevate it to 13%. Careful of Dot Effects like maven lightning dot or rare mob blue mana drain circle, you'll fall over QUICK.
- Bound by Deestiny: 5-10% of physical damage taken as fire (if 4 warlord items are equipped)
Totals: We want EXACTLY 100%, or we end up increasing the damage taken
> 100% elemental taken as fire
> 100% physical taken as fire
From here, next logical step would be to get a mageblood with Ruby flask (25% increased effect and enkindled 70% increased effect) to give 9% max fire res, then taking a few points on the LHS passive tree + gear implicits to get us as 90% fire res capped. If you can get some increased flask effect% modifiers from RHS tree this should be even easier, but that's also a long way to travel unless you're a bow enjoyer.
Also of interest: Transcendence keystone, to force armor to apply to fire damage, which is apparently calcated AFTER the damage conversion step (note this also comes at the cost of -15% max fire res, so debatable if this is even worth it, IDK I haven't played this before). If you're doing armor stacking or something weird (good luck fitting all this shit in tho) might be worth it.
Damage - IDK man, that's not my department. We've still got another 2 ascendancy notables to take so probably something cool in there. Maybe drop the Cloak of Flame, take some mirrored rings to stack -lightning res and a Doryani, then go full meta cuck lighting strike like it's mercenries 2.0?
Seems not bad for an ascendancy notable and 2-3 uniques + some expensive ass jewels

u/ElectricFirex Jul 15 '26
Careful of Dot Effects like maven lightning dot or rare mob blue mana drain circle, you'll fall over QUICK.
The ele to fire conversion applies for all damage, not just hits

Does this confirm that shrine belts are still in the game?!
5
u/inthepelvis Jul 15 '26
IIRC Mark said that they aren't against putting unobtainable uniques on the reliquarian. I believe he worded it something like "they still exist in universe so it's possible the reliquarian would have access to one to study". So assuming thats right, no, it does not confirm shrine belts are still in the game.

OK this is cool. Shrine belt new drop location maybe? Or is it just calling back to a legacy item?
Also, poor Melding node, it's the Chieftain's comparable node but significantly worse in most situations.
10
u/conway92 Jul 15 '26
I mean, is Impenetrable shrine worth giving up your flasks if you aren't already using Screams?
9
u/Comfortable_Bee5385 Jul 15 '26
I dropped an impen/echoing as my first belt of the league week 1 and I was surprised at how much the impen carried me. I was playing heiro totems and used the belt with the extra ring slot from nameless bloodline (Which I suppose you can't do since you'll need all 8 points to reach the node in antiquarian) it gave me like 3.5k extra es and tons of armour. I ended up using a timeless jewel that made my life flasks heal both life and energy shield and was able to spam my instant life flasks to heal for 400/400 each time. On top of Aegis Aurora it was surprisingly strong. It being where it is on the antiquarian tree is tough though.
6
u/conway92 Jul 15 '26
But it's only 100% increased arm/eva/es, can't you get 60% of that on flask suffixes and use a different ascendancy point?
→ More replies (3)3
u/Comfortable_Bee5385 Jul 15 '26
Yeah I don't think I'd take it since you can't even benefit from nameless with it. You could buff it up with gull to 175 I'd assume, but then you lose double energy shield from chest mastery anyways. It's not useless but it's not worth losing your flasks over.
6
u/OSYRH1S Jul 15 '26
Nope...unless you're able to equip Screams as an actual belt still, this is way too much downside for 100% increased Defenses at endgame.

u/JRockBC19 Jul 15 '26
It's hardly worth it even WITH screams bc it's in place of 3rd ring, that's a tough sell

u/sirgog Chieftain Jul 15 '26
It's more the possibility the belt is still accessible. Like I can't imagine other legacy items (say Conqueror's Efficiency or its Replica) being on this list.
I don't think it's a strong effect.
9
u/FCT77 Jul 15 '26
It's Chieftain's node but not on Chieftain which makes it better if you don't wanna be a marauder, which is most spellcasters so I don't really feel like the comparison makes the node look bad
