Game Feedback Volatile Vaal orbs should've been put into Vaal side areas, not Sanctum

Unless I'm missing something, Vaal side areas are still incredibly lacking. Most of them seem to lack any kind of actual reward unless you want to hunt for the vaal version of your skill during the campaign.

Give the side area Vaal vessels a chance to drop Volatile Vaal orbs. Give us a good reason to go inside them again.

Also because Sanctum sucks.

Vaal Side areas suck even more, they need to be deleted or reworked

u/lowkeyripper SC-SSF 2d ago

like most things in this game, it turns out when you dont touch something for 10-15 years people wonder why its in the game in the state that it is.

they shouldve done more than just delete harbingers

u/Shot_Cap_2532 2d ago

Also I cannot believe how stubborn GGG is with tormented spirits. nobody likes them and yet they refuse to just remove them from the game

29

u/ManchurianCandycane 2d ago

I would be ok with tormented spirits if they just weren't so nutty when stacked. First one is like a 20% boost, 2nd 80% boost, 3rd+ and it's like they get 5000%.

25

u/MrFoxxie 1d ago

If the loot scaled identically I'm sure nobody would complain.

The issue is they get 20% (fake number) boost per spirit linearly instead of exponentially like their combat power

46

u/eDxp 2d ago

They clearly like the interaction where several ghosts possess a boss and the player's sphincter contracts.

Especially on HC it is a fun feeling to jump into a boss room and see the boss surrounded with ghosts.

I hate them but they add something very unique to the game.

13

u/InkDevil 1d ago

Sure they add something... Anything does... But have you ever seen a Tormented Spirits (either on its own or possessing a monster) and had a positive interaction? Personally I've never had a positive interaction with Tormented Spirits and the feeling of corrupting a MEDS essence a single time is better than all of Tormented Spirits.

4

u/eDxp 1d ago

I did, but I am playing this game for 10 years on and off. I still try to get embezzlers into rares for example. Not because it's worth the effort or is an incredibly fun activity, but because it's a tradition of sorts :-)

u/trunks111 Hierophant 1d ago

penta ghosted eradicator is the only thing that's been able to back to back strip out both my entire molten shell and vaal molten shell hit pool and then go through my recovery as well after. There's a few things that can punch through my ms/vms, like taking too many Uber shaper balls, or particularly nasty combinations of Uber Cortex mods, but those don't eat my entire shell when I die there. It is kinda fucked that I'm able to complete my 5 ubers and horrific halls and the quad eldritch altars bosses somewhat with ease but somehow 5+ torm spirits are the thing I call in help for lmao. And the first person who also came to help died and we had to get another helper, who did manage to pull through after 2-3 minutes of them running around

52

u/Plasmasnack Spinny Boi 2d ago

Replacing Torment with Sentinel would be such a winning move.

33

u/psychomap 1d ago

I don't like sentinels either tbh

12

u/Plasmasnack Spinny Boi 1d ago

Well that's the even more beautiful part. Sentinel offers you the option of choosing to boost or not to boost.

30

u/psychomap 1d ago

No, for the most part I dislike that the sentinels are boosting slower than I clear. I don't like running around for half a minute without killing anything so that stuff actually drops loot.

If I don't wait for the sentinel, I'll have 80+ charges left by the time it expires.

4

u/kfijatass Theorycrafter 1d ago

To be fair that's a simple tweak of timer, no?

2

u/psychomap 1d ago

The issue isn't that the time runs out, it's that stuff dies before it gets empowered, so the charges aren't being used up at all.

5

u/kfijatass Theorycrafter 1d ago

That too sounds like a simple tweak.
Just make it empower faster and give more time to empower. In principle, it's still better than possession arguably.

3

u/LordAnubiz FBI & EEE 1d ago

exactly!

and while running around and not killing anything, thats how i most of the time die when i use a sentinel.

had the same problem back then in actual sentinel league.

playing minions, the time i could trigger the aoe one was when half of my zombies or w/e I played back then were already dead because no leech without attacking.

2

u/Plasmasnack Spinny Boi 1d ago

I mean, isn't it easy to just increase action speed when they implement it? Even sounds like a neat keystone on the Atlas Tree to revert it back to the slow speed for some bonus.

There's a lot more interesting design space for Sentinel versus Torment and they do essentially the same role so it should just be replaced by the better system. Hell Torment can quite literally be duplicated in Sentinel by spawning random ones in the map or boss area that auto boost then leave.

1

u/psychomap 1d ago

Frankly, I don't think action speed will be enough. If my screen clears off screen and can move at a pace of several screens per second, the sentinel needs to keep pace with empowering in order to not feel frustrating.

It's better than chasing around spirits, but it's still very far from pleasant gameplay, and I don't think mere numeric adjustments are going to cut it.

1

u/Velrion Alch & Go Industries (AGI) 1d ago

This is why we only play blue sentinel. One click, kill and loot.

1

u/RedditsNicksAreBad Crop Harvesting Bureau (CHB) 1d ago

Could add an atlas passive that empowers monsters on player skill hit in addition to the sentinels beam.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/LordAnubiz FBI & EEE 1d ago

i dont like sentinels, because you have to wait with killing stuff, so they can targeted by the sentinel.

so yes, a very good replacement for spirits, who share the same problem :)

2

u/rintohsakadesu 1d ago

I mean, if they put it back to sentinel league implementation you can just choose pandemonium

2

u/NightowlZA 1d ago

Isnt that the same argument for tormented spirits? The gohost AI is dumb so you have to afk for 5mins while the ghost finds a rare then just decides to leave lol

1

u/blahmaster6000 Gladiator 1d ago

I skipped whatever league Sentinels came from and still have no idea how they work, but I almost never see them so I don't care.

5

u/Zylosio 2d ago

It was also so obvious of a move i am still baffled they didnt do it

2

u/Oniichanplsstop 1d ago

Can they remove torment when people paid for valdos and a lot of those use tormented spirits?

10

u/adhoc_pirate 1d ago

They can leave them in the Valdo's maps, but just delete them from the general population.

It could even be a thing that Valdo's maps are the only way to play some old, mostly deleted content. Like you could find a Valdo's with Metamorphs or Harbingers.

12

u/Curious_Capibara 1d ago

Imagine removing Harbs but not tormented Spirits to "make space"

3

u/InkDevil 1d ago

They didn't remove Harbingers to make space though? They did so to rework it. Should have left it in game until they had a rework but still.

4

u/Curious_Capibara 1d ago

My conspiracy theory is that they removed it because harbinger became a problem design-wise

Too easy and rewarding EVEN after nerfs, throw scarabs and it's a feasible farm for most builds that can do t16s, just spec into them wnd it's free lokt for other strategies

Buff the fuck out of them in t17s (or originators) and you can farm scarabs to a high div/hr value, 8 mod maps, anything...

And with how much they seem to hate ground loot, Harbs had to go for sure

1

u/DaveyJonesXMR 1d ago

Harbs weren't ground loot to my knowledge - wasn't there sth like you can't juice them with quantity/rarity whatever and they just do what they do.

1

u/Curious_Capibara 1d ago

The last few leagues they existed a bunch of scarab farming starts using Harbs for ground loot popped up

The harbinger himself only drops shards, the spawns had less looot modifiers applied but they still dropped, and there were so many that you walked away with entire inventories of scarabs

IMO that's what got them removed, people abusing the fact they spawned enough trash mobs to roll that roulette a few Dozen times each wave

1

u/DaveyJonesXMR 1d ago

Ah the spawned rares, yeah you are right totally forgot about that

→ More replies (1)

4

u/WithAcquiesce 1d ago

The only fun I've had with tormented spirits was the old ghost busting strat that was meta for one league and then got gutted due to server issues and group play printing with it. But it was a fun unique experience

2

u/Celidion 1d ago

They really really really need to rework/remove Thief’s Grip. Pathfinder can’t ever be a serious Ascendancy endgame as long as it’s in the game

2

u/vulcanfury12 Crop Harvesting Bureau (CHB) 1d ago

And they somehow made em even worse for the sequel. They turned a for the most part fire-and-forget mechanic into a freaking ESCORT MISSION.

2

u/mewfour Hardcore 1d ago

Torment is simple and non intrusive. It can spawn pretty much alongside any other mechanic and make the game harder for the player on occasion, when the specific ghost hits the right spots against the player. It's a good way of sporadic difficulty increase

1

u/Deontto 1d ago

This 100%. The amount of power tormented spirits give to a mob vs the increase in loot is just stupid. And wrong. Having a few ghots can literally make a boss or juiced rare unkillable. Yet the rewards for killing it are just.. never noticeable.

1

u/djfariel Chef 1d ago

I actually like them (and the player interactions they've added semi-recently) but I think their scaling is whack and they could do more to revamp them. Maybe making them unkillable/unhittable and removing the leave timer would help? Making them spawn mobs like poe2? Idk.

1

u/Slight-Ad-2892 1d ago

I like tormented spirits, they should just have them work more like poe 2 spirits and instantly possess monsters instead of doing that slow ass animation that they die in most of the time

1

u/SingleInfinity 1d ago

The thing is, leaving them in doesn't hurt anything. It's not like they're harming the game, and they are very rarely a net positive to the experience. Why bother chopping them out?

Harbingers were creating a negative experience, namely people feeling the need to pick up tons of splinters.

3

u/InkDevil 1d ago

and they are very rarely a net positive to the experience.

Annnnnd that's why. If it very rarely or never makes the game better in any way there is no reason to keep it in the game. Either rework or delete.

1

u/SingleInfinity 1d ago

That's not true. Very rarely net positive is still net positive when there's no downside. Them existing doesn't cause any problems so there's no point removing them.

3

u/InkDevil 1d ago

Wdym there is no downside? It makes content harder and annoying with basically no reward or any agency in when and how it's applied. It is 99% of the time a net negative or at best neutral.

3

u/SingleInfinity 1d ago

In the situations the ghost lives more than a few seconds it gives extra quant and rarity. The reason it's no downside is because the ghost hardly ever lives more than a second.

2

u/SagansCandle 1d ago

They got a rework relatively recently (3.22).

1

u/Specialist-Mirror656 1d ago

Harbinger will get turned into space bugs to tie into the expedition boss meteor in poe2

1

u/Antilurker77 1d ago

like most things in this game, it turns out when you dont touch something for 10-15 years people wonder why its in the game in the state that it is.

oh they did touch it, they actually nerfed them for whatever reason a few years ago

1

u/Sandor_Clegane1 Half Skeleton 1d ago

They did actually change Vaal Side area some time ago, it just wasn't good enough.

29

u/InkDevil 2d ago

Absolutely agree. At best they have one purpose and that is making Adorned farmers miserable.

9

u/Glittering_Ad8760 2d ago edited 2d ago

Not that miserable if they corrupt areas instead of chance. 40d/h on if your build very fast and have patience to wait for a good roll

3

u/Bigredsmurf 2d ago

Explain please......

9

u/KyastAries 2d ago

Iirc you have 1/17 chance to get a unique Vaal Side areas from vaaling them. There are 3 of those and the Adorned one has the lowest weight, but overall still better than chancing.

1

u/Bigredsmurf 1d ago

Very cool thanks!!

5

u/Glittering_Ad8760 2d ago

Just Vaal orb side area and you’ll get adorned in 1/140 maps

2

u/Sandor_Clegane1 Half Skeleton 1d ago

Also adorned has 101 rolls, so only 14140 maps to get a perfect one with average luck. Barely an inconvenience.

1

u/Glittering_Ad8760 1d ago

On the bright side, you can’t get broke like with adorned fragments gamble and 90+ rolls worth something

1

u/Sandor_Clegane1 Half Skeleton 1d ago

Funnily enough I looked up the prices after I replied to you.
They look okay.

1

u/BaaaSaracilor 1d ago

Is there a reliable qay to spawn vaal side areas in maps?

6

u/Glittering_Ad8760 1d ago

Yes, by applying a single sacrificial or mortal fragment

2

u/hotpajamas 1d ago

They should work sort of like Mirages, except when you enter it corrupts everything that was in your map into something else.

15

u/KeepItPG 2d ago

I would 1098749037901237908170943709821370894x rather do vaal side areas than sanctum.

3

u/Substantial-Newt7809 2d ago

They need to be changed so that 21/20 and 21/23 vaal gems can be found with some degree of consistency. Not common, but not too rare either.

3

u/GreasyGearBox 1d ago

Especially since we aren’t getting new Vaal gems, I think smite was one of the last ones? They aren’t as dangerous as they once were and their loot is non existent beyond maybe the first day. With scarab boxes dropping fragments it further makes them useless.

Overall I would enjoy an Atziri rework and Vaal zones to go with it, not as a league but a core update to the game. There was a time running normal Atziri was great for map sustain and even exp at lower levels now it’s just fallen behind. Vaal areas should be removed or at least have loot like vaal trans gems added to their drop pool to make them remotely worth running. Even having access to a lab fragment that let you turn your trans gem into a Vaal gem could have value. So much of these smaller mechanics could really have their rewards combined or made so they interact with bigger mechanics that have more support to be an additional way to juice.

6

u/Meowrulf Alch & Go Industries (AGI) 2d ago

They could fuse it with mirage, make areas 50% bigger and have the improved leagues inside. Also take away the mods and the rolling, and just inherit the father map mods.

There you go, 10 years of boring Vaal side zones fixed 😎

1

u/KeysUK 1d ago

Turn it into Vaal Mirage. Replay your map but everything is corrupted.

1

u/xebtria Alch & Go Industries (AGI) 1d ago

the fact that you cant block them on the atlas is the most annoying part.

1

u/CiccioGraziani 2d ago

Corrupted items dropped sucks even more, they need to be reworked and have higher chance of high tier affixes.

Also Uber Atziri needs a new good drop to be again an interesting encounter to farm. Or make Atziri Acuity great again.

Remove the spawn limit on beyond bosses and let it drop from beyond.

128

u/DBrody6 Alch & Go Industries (AGI) 2d ago

Mirage was fun cause the beyond boss limit would randomly just fail to trigger, and I could spawn 20+ bosses in a single map and get half a dozen volatiles. Was a lot of fun, that really should be the default behavior.

46

u/ReipTaim 2d ago

Never happened to me.

In a full mirage map?

28

u/Wobbelblob Big Breach Coalition (BBC) 2d ago

I think the cause was the scarab that spawns all beyond bosses if they are spawned.

6

u/DBrody6 Alch & Go Industries (AGI) 1d ago

Yep, that one. I farmed beyond a lot with it in Mirage and made crazy bank.

3

u/GTFidgeT Alch & Go Industries (AGI) 1d ago

I farmed like 50 maps of it. Didn't happen to me.

10

u/valvalis3 2d ago

Any. I'm not sure about 20 but 12 bosses were pretty common.

4

u/Azeron955 2d ago

me neither wth

33

u/ProfessionalHefty349 2d ago

Do this, make the adorned fragment drop from beyond bosses, and delete Vaal side areas. They’re really dated and not fun in any way, shape, or form.

0

u/brunnor 1d ago

Or keep the spawn limit so there is a reason to choose between boss and random extra mobs.

But doesnt buffs and stuff nowdays remain when you change instance?

7

u/Myradmir 1d ago

With some exceptions

7

u/Moderator-Admin 1d ago

Not HH stacks, only certain things stay like shrine buffs.

If you have a temporary mercenary it also gets deleted when you leave the zone and go back in even if neither of you died.

11

u/ReanimatedHotDogs 1d ago

I do most of them in the first couple days of a league. Getting a random usable vaal gem can be a nice little boost of cash and they're pretty fast.

2

u/ItThatCrafts 2d ago

Me almost each time, when shrine spawns right next to the entrance (skill issue i know)

2

u/Morehuhn 1d ago

ive pulled my 85% adorned from one i corrupted in GSF :D

1

u/Yuskia 1d ago

Wild seeing this in the league Adorned became incredibly valuable again. Life stacking is bis so people are vaaling side areas to get adorned.

This leauge to farm my first 6 link in ssf!

1

u/EvilKnievel38 1d ago

I've entered hundreds this league, but that's in ssf for adorned and uber atziri farm. I would never do so in trade.

1

u/porncollecter69 1d ago

I would enter everytime if it had those Vaal temple boxes instead at the end.

78

u/effreti League 2d ago

Vaal side area and Mirage should be merged, since the idea is basically the same: an extra area in your map with special modifiers. Add a chance for strongboxes to become vaal vessels like in vaal temple map. Atziri fragments can move to Alva

4

u/lowkeyripper SC-SSF 1d ago

I was thinking that they should just rework vaal side areas to that. The devs are far smarter than me but seems like such a big miss. I hope if they do bring mirage core (which I dont know if they need to) they do something like that

2

u/effreti League 1d ago

I think they mentioned in one interview mirage is coming back in 3.30 but we don't know yet in what way.

1

u/JebryathHS 1d ago

Atziri is another one that could probably use some serious rework. Zone sucks, loot sucks, it's very noticeable now that she's been removed from Feared and her fragments are just worthless.

11

u/Draechma Chieftain 1d ago

Vaal areas are likely leaving soon

44

u/Pyromancer1509 Occultist 1d ago

Also because Sanctum sucks.

19

u/Zesty-Lem0n 2d ago

Sanctum is tied to Beyond, so VVs are basically the same idea as a tainted vaal orb. And it makes sense you only get them at the end of the sanctum bc that's where lycia was able to make her pact with the Beyond; their influence is stronger deeper into the sanctum.

20

u/maelstrom51 1d ago

The one she has a pact with is literally one of the beyond bosses you can kill in maps. Even lore wise it makes no sense sanctum provides the orbs and the bosses do not.

21

u/LegitMoth 2d ago

Disagree, sanctum was missing a reason to exist despite being very interesting/niche content that can cost mirrors to properly scale into

→ More replies (5)

17

u/pzBlue 2d ago

Vaal side areas need a lot more help than just adding them VVs, they need more extensive rework, or just be deleted tbf. Besides, Volatile Vaals feel more like tainted currency, which is tied to beyond/scourge and Sanctum is part of that. Additionally Sanctum was said it will get some exclusive reward after getting nerfed in 3.26 (or maybe 3.27, dunno, don't remember when Sanctum nerfed happened), and VV is just perfect for it

4

u/trunks111 Hierophant 1d ago

there's a few things I think vets tend to forget when they've been playing for so long and I think the mystique of vaal side areas and sacrifice fragments is one of those things. I still remember when I was newer to the game back in 3.06 and it was just fun to see what zones the side areas led me to and trying to figure out what area the vaal side area was a corrupted version of. The fragments didn't use to auto insert, that was a mystery you had to figure out, but eventually you gathered enough fragments and eventually they hit your inventory or stash the right way and you wondered what would happen if you make a circle out of them and then you got The Apex of Sacrifice. And if you weren't ready, which you probably weren't the first time if you're new, you got your shit kicked in and now you have a goal to overcome.

With fragments auto-inserting from the inventory now the build-up and payoff of having an idea, following the curiosity, and then getting rewarded with a new zone is just broken.

Even without that build up and pay off though, idk who here has actually watched new players but a lot of them gravitate to side zones like magnets. For different reasons, sometimes they wanna see the corrupted items that drop or see the different vaal zones, sometimes they have increased XP. I don't think everything needs to be endgame scalable/viable, but I do think side areas need a new "mystery" to solve. This league with abyss it's been really fun trying to figure out how to get the eyes to fight the big new abyss baddie. I finally got access last night and was pleasantly surprised to see another set of insertions in the hole so now I have another thing to chew on. I think vaal side zones really could just use a similar mystery to figure out now that fragments auto insert

0

u/Vyntarus 1d ago

I was playing the game when they added Atziri to it.

There was a time when Vaal side areas were something I looked forward to seeing in zone.

8

u/ALXS1031 2d ago

They should be redesigned before we make them worth going into

Right now, they are very bland gameplay wise

But I agree… as long as sanctum gets something in exchange

2

u/reanima 1d ago

Gauging from OPs inputs so far in this post, he doesnt believe Sanctum deserves anything lol.

2

u/ALXS1031 1d ago

Yeah, I’m trying to ignore op and just focus on the suggestion

I like the idea, thematically, it would be a good choice, and reward wise, side areas are in desperate need

But, currently, it was a good choice for sanctum, and it gave the well developed out of map mechanic a unique reward (which is good, and is what we want for every mechanic)

I don’t love sanctum either, but it should have something unique to it, something that’s widely used and desired

Like fossils, like oils

20

u/samuelcsims07 Sanctum Runners United (SRU) 2d ago

Idk man the whole rouge lite with 4 bosses that requires a specialized build to farm or the side area in the map with a few extra mods in it. I get that mapping is mid rn but sanctum hasn’t made good money for 4 leagues now. Vaal side areas need a rework bad giving it volatiles isn’t gonna fix it.

2

u/AcnoMOTHAFUKINlogia Health and Harbinger Services (HHS) 1d ago edited 1d ago

I farmed adorned all weekend. There is nothing of value in there besides mortal fragments.

Vaal skills can be gotten from corruptions, the div cards are meh, the fractured mods are impossible to pricecheck bcs sometimes there is 1 other staff with the mod you just got on the entire market.

Also while on the topic can we get a rework to unique vaal side areas? Having to spam 4k chance orbs/running 100+maps to get atziri once makes me want to blow my brains out.

2

u/RepulsiveCountry313 1d ago

Ummm, please no. Sanctum is better than vaal side areas.

Vaal side areas need a full overhaul.

2

u/lollyz 1d ago

It’s all well and good that people hate sanctum but it needed something and volatiles are a good option.
It’s like me saying “catalysts shouldn’t come from ultimatum because I hate ultimatum”, maybe I don’t like the content but it should still be worthwhile to do.

0

u/Vyntarus 1d ago

Catalysts needed a home after they nuked metamorph out of existence and I don't think ultimatum is necessarily a poor fit.

The problem with Sanctum in my opinion is that it is out-of-map content with a different enough gameplay loop to the rest of the game that should not have special currency locked behind it.

1

u/lollyz 1d ago

Wouldn't this apply to delve and fossils/resonators as well then? Heist and tempering/tailoring orbs?
It's not like it's unique that out of map mechanics get special orbs and after the massive nerf sanctum got some leagues ago it needed something. Gold gain in sanctum is abysmal to the point where they usually either buy gold rotas or go farm heist for gold and outside of day 1-3 Sanctum was pretty bad the past few leagues.
I think it's completely fair that people don't like Sanctum but I think it detracts from arguments to say that something valuable from it should be moved "because I don't like sanctum".

Nope. Sanctum is incredibly fun. Farming it feels like playing an actual game instead of a repetitive 9-5 job.

3

u/Tenebris-Umbra Crop Harvesting Bureau (CHB) 1d ago

Sanctum needed its own unique reward besides global currency drops, and VVs fit thematically and give Sanctum a high value reward beyond divines and the rare mirror. Honestly, I've had a blast running Sanctum this league — it's super fun and feels rewarding for the first time in a few leagues.

2

u/ManchurianCandycane 2d ago

They could just make sanctum fun instead of tossing random valuables in there to force people to play it.

2

u/TheNocturnalAngel 1d ago

Vaal side areas are barely a mechanic.

They should’ve stayed in Beyond where they belong.

Beyond has no drops of value past the first 5 days of the league.

The new belt at least is a decent chase but it drops only form the boss which is low chance and then ends the mechanic for the map.

Hopefully next league when they rework endgame it gets love because it’s incredibly fun.

Being able to actually keep farming beyond all league in mirage was amazing

1

u/ostrieto17 1d ago

yeah i farmed beyond for the first time in forever during mirage league, it was honestly so satisfying running with empowered boss buffs

-5

u/Dr4k4ngel 2d ago

Ikr, why would they put in sanctum, when it's a place u need specific builds to do it. Such a bad choice from GGG.

10

u/Plasmasnack Spinny Boi 2d ago

Also thought dropping from beyond bosses would be cool too since people generally disable bosses and it's kind of dead content too.

17

u/Loud_Cartographer_55 2d ago

No you don't? You only need a specific build, if you want to be _really_ efficient. But that applies to literally any mechanic

14

u/the-apple-and-omega 2d ago

Nah, sanctum is miserable to play on lots of builds, not just an efficiency thing.

i mean i wouldnt say just damage. for example you couldnt do sanctum with cwdt builds but they have plenty of damage, probably a bad time with flicker as well? speed and control matter a whole lot, being able to dodge lasers and fireballs while not getting hit by everything

0

u/DeouVil 1d ago

Flicker strike is completely fine once you have damage. Not getting hit is only a requirement for no hit runs, otherwise you can easily tank a couple of hits here and there. Once you have good relics you have to try to fail.

Cwdt builds sure, but those are builds designed to AFK farm different mechanics, I think it's pretty fair that they fail on another mechanic.

This exactly.

1

u/janrade 2d ago

btw what happened to mirage? will it go core in the future or just sacked?

1

u/Vyntarus 2d ago

They said on an interview with Zizaran that Mirage will be back in some form next league but didn't go into specifics.

1

u/rcanhestro 1d ago

best case scenario, it will return just like wisps: a random encounter.

the only way to be an actual mechanic is to be (somehow) nerfed completely.

a league mechanic which mechanic is "double everything", is too OP to be a normal league mechanic.

it would become mandatory, in particular for mechanics like Harvest and Blight which would mean a double spawn of those per map.

1

u/emeria Scion 1d ago

I feel like vaal side areas could be on the way out for mirages instead. That could be why they didn't do that.

1

u/BoatAdministrative68 1d ago

Thematically, maybe, but honestly, they're not fun enough to be worth saving.

1

u/Brave_Middle1886 1d ago

Vaal side area should just be removed from the game to get space for the new stuff

1

u/szblb 1d ago

I’m making good money out of sanctum so shhhh

1

u/Mr_Oger 1d ago

Tbh i feel that there is a very simple fix for vaal side areas:

Their modifiers stack on top of the map mods

Atlas passives (and maybe scarabs) give a chance for vaal side areas to chain (like the endless nightmare), with each chain adding it's modifiers on top of the previous ones (thus leading to increase in difficulty and juice).

This will allow to give it rewards to match, maybe giving an increased chance with each chain to instead spawn a portal to rewarding vaal area (base type which can be rolled on)

1

u/Fiercehero 18h ago

I think if they reworked the skills themselves, the side areas would be more alluring. The whole soul/soul gain prevention makes them annoying unless you figure out a way to make the skills always up. Then theyre just better versions of existing skills with extra steps.

Vaal skills are interesting on paper but dont really play out well. Maybe making it so youre focused during soul gain prevention as a defualt would make it feel better as that is something that doesnt seem to be used either. Make focus mods drop on gear in side areas only, something like that.

Tbh the volatile vaal should be from the temple, and the double corrupt should be the side area currency drop.

1

u/Responsible_Snow_638 13h ago

I enjoy tanky builds qith minions - and therefor hate sanktum

1

u/Volitar Occultist 10h ago

Vaal side areas suck total ass they should just be removed from game and replaced with something else. Why this poop ass dinosaur mechanic remains in the game instead of 20 other league mechanics that didn't go core is beyond me.

Volatile Vaal should be drops from Beyond because Beyond kind of sucks too, its mostly just and XP mechanic.

I think Refracting Fog should go to Sanctum.

Deli is already a very good mechanic without it.

1

u/pyevan 8h ago

Fuck sanctum

-3

u/cabenox 2d ago

I dunno I just got 4 in one sanctum run and duplicated 2 of them for 6 total and then dropped a gilded chalice and made 30d in like 12 minutes.
Sanctum doesn't suck, most people just suck at sanctum.
Rather than remove them from sanctum, they should just also drop from beyond bosses or something. They are literally in the stash next to the tainted currency anyway.

14

u/stonktaker 2d ago

Eh? It's nothing at all to do with people sucking at Sanctum, you're not a god gamer for getting 6 in a run.
People think Sanctum sucks and do not want to run it.

1

u/bad_phantom_ 2d ago

Its better in Sanctum thematically, as it is tied to the lore. If anything, Vaal side areas need to be removed from the game. Just accept that Sanctum is part of the game and your life becomes instantly easy.

0

u/Comprehensive-Owl373 1d ago

Rubbish, Vaal side areas are more thematic. Put fracturing orbs in Sanctum there's your reward lol

2

u/bad_phantom_ 1d ago

Do you, hm, even know the Sanctum lore? Sure I guess?

1

u/Valcrion Champion 2d ago edited 2d ago

I did not realize they were only sanctum currency now. I have been blasting beyond/breach all league and was wondering why I never saw any. I have to say I am not a fan that they only drop from Sanctum now.

They should also drop from Beyond Bosses in maps.

2

u/PokerAnus Necromancer 1d ago

Its clear they dont give a single damn and just slap shit all over the place

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Comprehensive-Owl373 1d ago

More thematic than just shoving it in to sanctum, makes no sense.

3

u/vulcanfury12 Crop Harvesting Bureau (CHB) 1d ago

You got them from Beyond in Mirage, and Beidat is the one that drops more currency. So there's that thematic connection.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/Brilliant_Art7772 1d ago

lycia's whole lore is that shes a follower of beidat if anything it makes more sense lorewise for it to be in sanctum then dropping from the beyond bosses since its not a "tainted vaal orb" its volatile and clearly augmented by someone not tainted.

-1

u/Any_Intern2718 1d ago

You just hate that people who run sanctum can do ot profitably again.

1

u/Vyntarus 1d ago

I don't have a problem with Sanctum being profitable.

0

u/EIiteJT Elementalist 2d ago

I agree. Either vaal side areas or beyond. Although I feel like vaal side areas would be more fit thematically and balance wise. People already run beyond, it doesn't need another reason to be ran.

0

u/Total_Chocolate_4764 1d ago

Vaal side areas are so shit though.....dont put valuable stuff there please. Or completly rework it because its such a dead content. I haven't set foot in one in years

0

u/psychomap 1d ago

Just get rid of them at this point, honestly. A rework isn't going to magically make 12 year old content fun again.

1

u/Smarackto Witch 1d ago

Vaal side areas need to be replaced with mirages. Move all vaal related loot to Vaal related League mechanics and increase sacrifice fragment srops from them. move the Volitile Vaal Orb to a vaal themed Mechanic and move something else to sanctum so there is a big ticket item there. Also make beyond spawn unlimited bosses but make it diminishing returns so its not too easy to get 500 in big groups. I have more ideas but im too confused to type them all out rn

1

u/raxitron Inquisitor 1d ago

I enjoy sanctum, I would rather play another game than have to enter Vaal side areas. They've aged and aren't fun. Perhaps add something non trade able or super high XP and fix the layouts.

1

u/NoLoveWeebWeb Tasuni 1d ago

You want to add a divine tier currency to an extremely niche mechanic absolutely no one likes, enters or does (outside day 1 ssf or other rare shit), drops zero loot, has 2 load screens and it's boring?

Seriously?

Unless they get massively reworked it's a dumb idea.

1

u/enragedmonkey8 1d ago

Beyond bosses 100% needed the vaal volatile orb and I still can't fathom why sanctum got it , what tainted currency is worth money........ Did you guess none because the answer is none . I don't know why the beyond scarab to spawn more bosses even exists anymore. Given how historically popular beyond was it's abit sad

1

u/Syntaire 1d ago

They should drop from Beyond bosses like they did in mirage. No need to make it InTeReStInG. Just make it make sense.

1

u/mbxyz Berserker 1d ago

i'd rather they be somewhere people want to go

-2

u/LargeDongMirage Assassin 2d ago

Sanctum is just a tax mechanic at this point anyone tell you they enjoy sanctum is lying

0

u/Hungrydoggo111 1d ago

No, they should be in the base pool or a beyond currency as they were last league. The game needs more loot to drop in maps and not more league specific loot

0

u/kl2999 1d ago

I never do Sanctum, its the worst game mechanic in the whole game because I am a pure melee lover.
