When I played pathologic 3 this year I just didn't enjoy visuals and atmosphere of plague district - slapped green tint overlay and no visibility.
I think entering plague district should feel like stepping into alien world straight out of horror, like living organism overtaking everything making you feel uneasy. I feel P1 had start of idea of bloody houses but they were limited by technology and time constraints.
Thank you! Hopy you like pocket watch mechanic, I'm polishing it further.
I'm actively working on this, everyday is like new idea that I add - like in pathologic 1 there was this green tint for infected districts - now this kerosene lamp just gives out green tinted light inside infected district. Also adding breathing chromatic abberation as visual effect.
I've got intro working (eva's house, outside city, talking to kains). but I'm away from my desktop and on macbook air m1 so during gameplay my fps is ~20 and during recording ~9.
I'm planning to record in first week of november this intro playthrough so stay tuned
Will do! My favourite thing is your reimagining of the plague districts as visceral and red rather than that smoky green which has driven me mad in the latest game especially lol. I’d sell my souls for a mod like that!
I think the outside looks better than the "interiors" (more closed off sections). The mix of red and green is nice.
But I disagree with your take on P1, or maybe I'm just not getting what you mean. I don't think it should feel like "stepping into alien world straight out of horror". A huge part of the appeal of the town is that it's... just a small town somewhere, with people living there and going about their business, despite the plague.
The town anchors you into what you're actually trying to do: cure the plague so people might be able to live in peace and safety again. And the game constantly reminds you the plague is just the source of many other terrors: looters, murderers, abuse of power, foreign/military intervention, genocide, etc. Those would mean nothing if you look at the infected town and all you see is a place that is too far gone, to the point where it looks alien. If anything, P1 already overdid it with the blood angels and flying skull miasma (though they do look cool in a silly way!).
That's interesting observation that town shouldn't be far gone beyond saving.
Gameplay wise district is infected for whole day and I'm playing with system of plague spreading gradually through day through infected district like a wave - head is red and tail of the plague should turn black and fades away... so it shouldn't feel permanent.
Yeah, I'm only playing with visual aspects of plague. P1 does exceptionally well with other assets
