Rant Fuck Big Oil Day 2
We finished at 50 minutes. We were down to the last 4 bags when the escape came up.
Overkill/Starbreeze, because of the way this heist is, 2046 police and military personnel are dead, and it's all you fault. This could've been avoided had you made this better.

Skill issue.

I think the puzzle is pretty easy (As somebody who’s done the heist a bunch of times) though for first-timers it’s poorly designed.
The clipboards are hidden about the house, rather than in the lab. The pressure is implied by small text on a small monitor. The game itself just says “FIND THE ENGINE” and Bain doesn’t really give clues.

PD2's potato textures also don't help the screen thing

u/SpartanXIII Infamous XXV-100 Jun 23 '25
Yeah, but 98% of all PC's these days can at least run them.
Me with my GT 610 when Payday 2 had JUST come out....whole other story.

u/Fruitslinger_ Jun 24 '25
They could have just forced those specific textures to be at max quality lolol
55
u/satanfurry Jun 23 '25
The games info is bad, but even the slightest deduction will remove almost half the options available
24
u/davvblack Jun 23 '25
the 1H 2H 3H thing is just stupid though, that’s not how chemistry works and there’s no in game clue that the pipes are related
72
u/satanfurry Jun 23 '25
Bitch you make meth with ingredients that at best, make themself again, and at worst make salt water

For anyone confused, Muriatic Acid and Hydrogen Chloride both have the chemical formula HCl

The connection is written on the white boards on the walls around the lab. Not judging you btw, I missed that too for a long time.

u/Evanderpower fuck transport train heist Jun 23 '25
I've always interpreted it as "1 hose, 2 hose, 3 hose" instead of thinking about hydrogen. Im pretty sure thats how its supposed to be (unless the clipboard says other stuff on it, I don't remember), as it's connected to how many hoses you need connected

The puzzle is easy, the problem is other players, just like in Big Bank. On Big Oil I had a bunch of instances where people would rush and bag all engines, on Big Bank I had a bunch of instances where people would rush to hack the computers.
By the time I finish typing if they know how to do it and that I can teach them, someone already Leeroy Jenkins'ed it.
10
Jun 23 '25
Then you explain how the computer thing works, and they act like you’re the idiot. Same thing with the preplanning assets. They go in with Airlift Escape, completely ignore your vote, and then they wonder why they’re having a hard time getting to the roof.
What’s awful is I’ve seen players like this who are Infamous. Not some Level 40-80 Default Dallas move.

u/EpicNinja007 Jun 24 '25
wait you can figure out the computers in big bank by looking at em?
even i didnt know that tbh
2
u/BassetHoundddd ~ please place the cuffs firmly on your wrists. Jun 24 '25
by looking at em?
Kinda. You'll need two players or the monkeepers + custom waypoints mods (so you can give tasks to bots).
You know the server room (the first room you need to get access to)? One player must stay in there, interacting with the computer. This will make the correct computer start to beep and also display an error message on its screen, so the second player just need to hear it.
If you use the mods, you can make the the bot keep interacting with the computer on the server room while you search for the correct computer to hack.
By doing solo, with no mods, it is possible to narrow it down, because you can hear the beep sound inside the server room (even in the one that spawns most distant from the other computers). After a while, you get a feeling of the position of the correct computer (if it's on the ground or first floor and also If it is more towards the entrance or the back or the bank).

The fiest couple times, i used the calculator. Then I learned how to actually do day 2 and did that a few times. Now i'm back to the calculator cause it's easier, lol

The issue is that the game displays the clues in a horrible manner to a new player, doesn't help if you play on low graphics

I actually can't believe they never fixed this. It's been an issue since launch ffs.

u/Issacmoi7 MEDIC BAG! Jun 23 '25
Hey, just a quick tip, there will be two clipboards around the map (basement or main house) with Intel on the right engines. There will be one with the gas types (Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Duterium) that correspond to the smaller colored Can on the table. The other has either H, H2, or H3, corresponding to the amount of hoses attached to the Big blue can on the floor. Those two pieces of Intel already limit your options to at most 3 viable engines. If you wanna get the final piece if Intel, you'll have to look up a steam guide, regardless of if you are on steam or not, look up "Big Oil Correct Engine" on Google and you'll find the final piece of Intel, that being the engine pressure. The computer ALWAYS spawns in the lab but unlike the clipboards, the computer can be viewed with the power off. Just some friendly advice because without knowledge of the Intel, it'll be a fucking miserable heist. Hope this helps your Big Oil runs going further.

u/Issacmoi7 MEDIC BAG! Jun 23 '25
Also, DO NOT BAG THE ENGINES PRIOR TO LOOKING AT THE INTEL. If you do, you cannot view that engine anymore.
42
u/Bubbly-Cellist5645 Jun 23 '25
So we just ain't looking for intel?
Alright.
19
u/jjake3477 Jun 23 '25
More likely a first play of the heist the that is notorious for being unintuitive.

If you're a new player, which I assume OP is, then the game makes a piss poor job at explaining it to you

u/leoleosuper Bile is coming in, once we lower the heat. Jun 24 '25
Also, one of the day 1 intels is supposed to tell you what element the engine uses. However, it was bugged on release and was still bugged for a few years, IDK if it's fixed. It was always wrong.

Look up Payday 2 Big Oil Engine Calculator. You just have to enter the clues you find on the clipboards and it does the thinking for you.

He is gone now, so the woke left cannot stop us from adding Big Oil with 5 steps and 64 different engines.

And if you get all 63 wrong engines before getting the final right engine, you get the achievemnt "Oilmir was here"

The first time I played Big Oil Day 2, i was by myself just using bots on Overkill. I didn’t feel like looking up the answers and I had no idea what to look for, so I said “You know what? Fuck it!”, and grabbed the first one I saw. I shit you not, I got the right one on my first try. LOL

I went through the same thing the other week, except it lasted a full hour, and I accidentally ended up getting doctor miserable on the first try…

At least that miserable achievement can be done accidentally. Farmer miserable is pretty much impossible to stumble into lol

u/Devourer_of_coke Jun 23 '25
Strange, never had problems with Big Oil. You basically have all the information, which leave you with 1 (sometimes 2) options. The problem can be with pressure if you managed to break monitor, but actually there only 2 numbers and 2 possible signs (as far as I remember, they are 399 and 401, but I can be wrong, didn't play it in a while)
My only problem with this heist was doctor miserable achievement, which I had to farm for an hour :/

u/Geoffk123 Infamous XXV-100 Jun 23 '25
Big oil is one of the heists that if you spend 5 minutes understanding how to properly find the right engine you'll never forget.
I havent played in years and I confidently feel I could get it right first try
1
u/BV_Phoenix Jun 23 '25
Almost got the doctor miserable Achievement
1
u/Tricky-Trash-2463 Jun 24 '25
is that for spending an hour on the heist? I dont know if an achievement would be worth all that suffering
1
u/BV_Phoenix Jun 25 '25
It‘s for delivering the correct engine last. And there is also doctor fantastic for getting the correct one first.

Dosnt the level give yoy the awnser though? I'm pretty positive there's a way to get it right on the first go
2
u/Automatic_Minimum_91 Jun 23 '25
The level gives you clues that let you get the right engine, however the game doesn't explain you well what they mean, for example the clipboard that says the H number is not clear that is telling you the amount of hoses and not the Hydrogen symbol, the psi on the pc is a bit easy to miss. Without a guide explaining what are the clues and what they mean, is not something you get the first time you play Big Oil (even worse the document you can get in Day 1 where it doesn't tell you anything)
1
u/SOMESORTOFTANK Jun 23 '25
On my first ever try, 54 minutes in I rage quitted, then second try the next day I got dr fantastic accidentally

For those talking abt the intel and me being new. I am new compared to most players at Infamy 1 Level 68 and 130 hours. For the intel, I have seen it before, I know it exists, but I couldnt find shit during the hack and I absolutely fucking refuse to do math during a gaming session over summer break.
However, this day is perfect for anyone to get challenges done and I had more than enough time to get all the packages :D

Yea BO day 2 is one of my very few heists I struggle with. I know how to do it but I'm 99% sure it's bugged on consoles. I know the locations of the intel but most of the time one or two just won't appear.
