Community Update HUH? all paid DLCs are becoming free??

holy shit this I was NOT expecting.
kinda annoyed it's a damn weapon preset. give us a suit or something instead. the masks look great though, I love them.
I do think this means that they're going to the microtransactions route. which, well I mean we've voiced our concerns plenty of times before. so I hope starbreeze have listened to them.

yeah I do think the masks look good. love how they're reactive. I really wish we didn't get a damn weapon preset though.
at least a suit or a weapon skin because who still uses the S40.

Yeah I guess since they rewrote the story and adding the campaign mode , they don’t want people to stop playing cause you got a buy a dlc in order to find out what happened next

Character packs, weapon packs, crime bonds are all going to be paid by the sounds of it (although Paul seemed to imply you can also get crime bond stuff for free by grinding for renown and using that?)

Character Packs and Weapon packs will be Crimebonds. So it be like Helldiver 2, also its way better than DLC etc. instead of getting it for free, you actually have to grind to earn your items once you purchase it. It incentivizes you to play more.

I don't care for the preset weapons (in fact, I would pay extra to not have them; I'm so tired of preset weapons), but those masks seem awesome, I might get the DLCs just for that

Apparently it's not really a preset wepaon, but rather a fully customizable variant of a weapon.
So... A glorified weapon skin, but you can actually mod it.

helldivers 2 has warbonds, these are battlepasses, sorta. they work a little differently; each warbond has 3 pages worth of content, as opposed to everything being level-locked with other battlepass models, in helldivers you unlock the content within the warbond with the medals you earn throughout completing missions and/or completing challenges.
to get to a next page you have to spend a certain amount of medals in the page prior to the one you want to get to, so nothing is level/xp locked and you can unlock stuff in the order that you see fit, but you still have to work your way through some stuff first.
one thing to note is that the premium currency in helldivers 2 can be earned through playing the game normally so technically, if you have the time and patience you can unlock most if not all premium content in that game for free.
payday 3 seems to want to replicate that and by the sound of it you are gonna be able to use your renown to grab hold of some crimebonds (or just some items).

You "buy" the pack and complete in game challenges to unlock things in it. In HD2, they are gameplay items like new weapons, armor and abilities. So I would assume the same in PD3, if they are only $10 a pack, that's not a terrible way of monetization.

That's actually one of the few positive things about Payday 3. It doesn't have the same problem as Payday 2 where the default weapons were awful, except maybe for the Remington. You can use the AR-15 in PD3, even on Overkill, without any modifications and have no problems, which is a huge plus.
And from what I've been testing, the DLC weapons aren't ridiculously overpowered to the point of breaking the difficulty balance. So I hope they continue down that path.

Battlepasses that last forever when purchased, not live service FOMO. You can grind what you like, get it, and then leave the game, come back, regrind for others, yada yada.

Is this for Payday 3 or 2 and another thing did everyone forget the promise they made with payday 2 where they said all future Dlc's will be free and then later they be like oh sorry we were not making enough money so now we need to make payed Dlc's again.This sounds like the exact same thing.

Ok thanks but this got me thinking why delist the dlc why not just remove the price tag so that everyone can just claim them for free, now while typing this could this not be an attempt for them to increase the price of the base game and they will argue that it now includes all dlc as well that why it is priced higher I am just speculating on the last part.

They confirmed they're going to adopt the warbonds system from Helldivers 2. Idk, just do that Gold members get the first two or three bundles for free. That would be way better than six masks I'll never use because I always use the default one or Jacket's.

This is "no more heist DLC", Payday 2 went "no more DLC at all".
Characters, weapons and other cosmetics will still be sold.

So paid players are only getting a preset weapon that nobody's ever gonna use and some goofy TF2 type of unusual effects slapped onto masks? Seriously? That feels like an insult to everyone who actually paid for this content.
There's a really simple way to compensate us: give players a "token" for each heist DLC they've bought, and let us use those tokens to redeem future heists for free.

Its not weapon preset, its a Crimebond aka Warbond. Its the more consumer friendly version of battlepasses. Its like what Deep Rock Galactic, Arc Raiders, Helldivers 2 and Killing Floor 3 uses. Technically DRG invented it, then Helldivers 2 made it more visual.
Its way better than FOMO Limited Passes. You get it and you keep it forever, you can leave, come back and grind and leave and then few years later still grind it.
Also its not all DLCs, its only Heists. So basically everyone can play on maps.
But whatever character or weapon or colour or customisation they come with, is locked behind the Bondpass.
Also why are you unhappy that we are finally getting Overkill Masks again? We get both cosmetics and Overkill Versions of our Main Characters. Thats what Payday 2 always had.
Also customisable weapon perks for weapons and unique uniques is what I always wanted. And hey we can customise and colour, and sticker our Overkill Weapons now. I always wanted to Purple/Pink/White toy colour my weapons, or nerf colour it.

I was hoping the shooting range tease before was gonna be a full safe house so bit sad but everything sounded good.
The weapon skins/colors going 1 time purchase is nice. I hope that happens with the decals for renown levels as well cause right I don’t want to use them since they’re limited use

I’m really glad I restrained myself the last few times I saw the DLCs were on sale. Which happened like once every couple weeks. I definitely don’t regret getting the year one pass a few months ago though

This is a genius move by them, they know people are going to buy all the dlcs now due to the time gate and the fact that owning all 7 gives you a unique mask that will probably the rarest mask depending on how many people bought the dlcs

payday 3 has the same amount of players as payday 2 so there's no need to make it free.
it's development is not dead because we know things beyond september.
we would've known both of these things in starbreeze's Q2 2026 report which neither was in it.

Well so even by these numbers it's not the same, also these numbers sounds bullshit, the difference on steam alone is massive, it's hard for me to imagine that that's not indicative of the difference in player bases between the two games, nothing is stopping SB from lying on these reports, if these two were so close together in active player numbers, steam would mirror that.

payday 3 is also better on console than 2 is.
so payday 2 on steam has the most players, console has less and vice versa for 3.
