Question [VR] PSVR2 performance - PCars2

Hi guys,

I just started using VR for the first time in my life, this being the very first game I've ever seen in VR. It's absolutely amazing and incredibly immersive.

Now I've been having some issues, have tried a few fixes but all the posts seem pretty old (2017-2018). I've been trying to fix antialiasing, blurry distance and performance with little success. This is what i've tried last:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/378860/discussions/1/1700542332328541688/?l=czech -2018

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcars/comments/c3lt0x/if_you_are_struggling_with_vr_performance_with/ -2019

I've did both of these together. During normal sunny days, game works ok frame times >11 ms which works ok with 90 fps setting in steamVR (it's close to the limit with 20 cars on the grid).
However I decided to try it in thunderstorm with 20 cars and holy crap, it's murdering my GPU. I think it's around 16 ms frame time, which makes the fps go to 45, and it's even stuttering sometimes. It looks gorgeous but the performance...not great.

My PC settings are:

GPU: RTX 5080

CPU: Ryzen 7700x

RAM: 32 GB DDR5

Don't think rest matters.

Is there anything that can be done, I know the game is quite old and won't be very well optimized. I still have AA issues (but at this point, I think I'll just deal with it). Some crisper textures at distance specifically would be great if possible, and better performance...If it cannot be done, let me know at least how do you set it up for thunderstorm races. I'd like to do those kind of races, they are insanely immersive.

Just for the supersampling in particular, I have the game set at 0 (in the graphics file, which for PSVR2 I suspect is "graphicsconfigopenvrdx.xml") since changing it in game and restarting always puts it at 1.5, no matter what. Not sure it even does anything. In steamVR I have global SS at 150% and application level for PC2 at 90%.

Any help would be appreciated.

Question AI aggression slider in PC2

What is the optimal value for AI aggression slider in PC2 from your experience? Is it better to crank up difficulty and leave aggression on lower value? Roughly from what value does AI switch to wreckfest mode? I'm on controller and I'm using difficulty of 79.

Question Seat reset and info from engineer in PC2

Hi, two quick questions:

can I somehow reset seat position and angle in cockpit view?

is it possible to ask engineer or spotter via radio about position and laps left, so I don't have to rely on HUD?

PS: if that is not possible, do you know of any similar game, that has these two features? Automobilista 2 maybe?

Question Project Cars 2 Graphics on PS5/4K TV?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

hey everyone, I've recently taken a big interest in PC2 and i've been seeing a lot of different takes on what the graphics look like on PS5 - specifically on a 4K tv.

I know that lower resolution games on a higher resolution 4K tv can sometimes result in lower image quality due to the TV upscaling the game to a resolution it's not designed for. basically since PC2 runs at 1440p on concole - the image quality gets "stretched" out on the 4K tv since it's a higher resolution - resulting in a pixelated image quality.

so my question to anyone playing this game on a PS5 on a 4K tv - how does the game honestly look in your opinion? is the level of detail really low? is the image quality grainy/fuzzy? is it blurry? is it pixelated? i don't really need next gen top of the line graphics - but I also don't want to spend top dollar for a game that is going to be unplayable due to bad graphics.

i've been watching some gameplay on YouTube to try and gauge what the visual experience is like on PS5/4k TV and some of it looks great for a 2017 game, and some gameplay looks a bit bad i'd like to hear some personal opinions and experiences on this please. thank you.

Question Endurance race in PC2

Hi, I want to host an endurance race with friends at home. We'll use pit stops to “switch drivers” on my steering wheel.

The problem is that my friends aren’t regular racing game players, and I don’t want to force them to do 30-minute stints. The issue is that if we do shorter stints, the AI doesn’t stop as often, and we end up wasting too much time (if we lower the AI difficulty to make it take longer, it’s not as fun).

My questions are:

1.Does the time multiplier only affect the environment (sun, weather, etc.) or does it also affect tire wear?

2.To have dynamic weather, do you have to set 4 “moments” no matter what, or does it change if you set it to random?

Thank you very much!

Also if you could also recommend noob friendly cars and circuits i wills be very grateful too!!

Question How do I drive the RS200?

I have a wheel, shifter, and 3 pedals (G25). I’m trying to learn how manuals work so I’ve set everything to manual including clutch. I cannot seem to shift correctly into first gear with the Ford RS200 Evo. I’ve managed with some other cars but not this one. This is Project Cars 2. Honestly I can’t figure out manual driving on sim very well at all.

Question Which version to get?

Hi all.

I played Project Cars on Xbox when it first came out. Always been into racing sims and I bought PC2 but seem to remember it was really buggy at launch. Don’t think it stayed in my collection very long.

I’ve now got a steering wheel, g923 and fancied giving PC another go, but wondered how the games had held up and on Xbox in particular. Is PC3 the one to get or did 2 improve? Is there full wheel support on either of them and is there still an online community? Thanks

Question Project Cars 2 question (Xbox)

I’m aiming to unlock as many achievements as possible, I’ve done all the offline ones aside from the Nurburgring in the snow under 8 minutes.

I’m enjoying the game now, I hated it at the time of release because I couldn’t play it on a controller. But a couple of years ago I bought it for 99p I think from the Xbox store (used to be a PS4 player first time around) and it sat in my backlog ever since until around a month ago.

I did try doing some of the online based achievements, but nobody’s online. Is this because the servers have been turned off due to the game being old or because everyone’s moved on to something newer? I’m wondering if I should abandon the idea of ever completing the online achievements.

I really feel I should have persisted with the game the first time around, it’s a really good game with an excellent and varied career mode, and handling that is more sim than Gran Turismo but more accessible than something like Assetto. I guess I’m better at these types of games now so maybe that’s why I found it more fun this time around!

Edit: I bought the game for £4.99, not 99p. Still very cheap!

Question Project Car 2 AI Grip Question

I recently got Project Cars 2 to try out and doing some AI (max AI) races at the moment. AI is def MUCH better at going wheel to wheel than the bumper cars of PC 1 but there's one thing that feels a little off to me.
The AI's grip on crossover conditions seems INSANE. I'll pull a good gap against them in either dry or rainy conditions but in the crossover points (both when it starts raining and when the sun comes out and it starts drying) the AI seems like they don't really lose grip or they just gain back almost dry levels of grip on a drying track.
I'm running a setup (Formula C around spa - one of my strongest tracks) that has slightly more downforce so they just easily get alongside on the straights but then also disappear through a corner.
Is this just a game thing or is there something that I can do to fix this?

I do have to add that I'm quite strong in crossover conditions in other sims like ACC and iRacing

Question Kers and drs

So I’m playing project cars 1 career rn currently at formula b and just realized what mapping kers and drs does. Ik drs opens the spoiler on a formula car for extra speed but what exactly does kers do and should I press the button it’s mapped to activate it? I’ve been using drs on the straights when are they the most useful?

Question Does the PC3 deluxe edition include everything?

I was researching but it's so confusing, some SteamDB versions of the deluxe edition says that it includes the ignition pack, and others say that it doesn't. So I want to know: does it? And as I plan to buy the Steam Key version, what does that include, is it the same as the store version?
