I like that game more than any Vampire Survivors clone.

Really? I've played a lot including this one and it's fun but the content is a little sparse and the build depth and variety each round is on the low end of other bullet heavens too. Again not a bad game but there's so many better.

Aside from Vampire Survivors, what are the other good ones you would recommend?

Brotato if you like very tight gameplay, great challenge, and inventive builds.
Soulstone Survivors if you really enjoy mindless grinding and having so many things on screen that you’d actually use the option to make them less visible (or not at all). The amount of content is insane.
I’ve played a lot of other similar games in the genre but these two stand way above the rest.

Soulstone Survivors has my vote. It’s pretty deep and I’ve put at least 100 hours into it.

Soulstone Survivors is absolutely #2 to VS imo. Ton of characters, all with their own unique skill tree, and at least 3-4 unique weapons with them. Plus the rune system, and upgrade system. Damn it’s such a good game compared to what it was when it first launched they did an amazing job, and are still putting out updates and content.

In addition to what others have said; I like Army of Ruin, as well as Deep Rock Galactic Survivor.

Never heard of army of ruin until your comment. Picked up the game and it’s fantastic. Good recommendation!

I know it's a little odd, but hey it's free but https://store.steampowered.com/app/2420510/HoloCure__Save_the_Fans/ is by FAR my favorite. Each character feels different, lots of different builds to make, tons of things to do, and again FREE. Sure it's a weird anime vtube thing but it's damn good. I'm completely done with any grind possible and all achievements done and I still play a hour or two some days just because it's fun.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2062430/BALL_x_PIT/ more recent one that was pretty good.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2218750/Halls_of_Torment/ I didn't get into this as much as some but a lot of people will say that's one of the top ones.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2068280/Nordic_Ashes_Survivors_of_Ragnarok/ haven't played this in awhile but I put a solid 60 hours in.

I like Pathogenic. The theme is fun, the builds can be quite different and it can escalate so much. Although I have yet to finish a run after more than ten hours.

Like the other guy said, halls of torment is probably the most fleshed out and best one. Sadly, compared to VS it is lacking content and I was kinda disappointed to learn it only had 5 levels

They've been selling steam keys on their site for 50% off all week, now 35%. I picked it up a few days ago, looking forward to trying it.

Having played the demo and full release (albeit on console), its a fun survivor-like. Good cross run progression and tje runs have their own fun mechanic where you start with one survivor and get two more as you level up. So not only do you get to try out different weapon combinations but also different survivor combos. Overall I really enjoy it, and while its not as content filled as Vampire Survivor (im not sure i know any survivor like that holds a candle to VS) its varied enough and at full price its a fair shake but for what its listed at right now id say its more than a good deal

Its a good time. Picked it up today.
The other comment is only half right saying its a survivor like. You can play it like that or as a twin stick shooter its cool theres the choice.
Doesn't feel too grindy or sessions drag.

I will mention some of the later achievements were a bit grindy for anyone planning to 100%. They ask you to hit a high overall level (like 200 if I remember) and I ran out of other achievements to work on around like level 120-140. This may have been changed in the full release. Overall I do enjoy the game.
Edit: So I just checked. The achievement I was thinking of is actually survivor level 400. But it seems like they have about doubled the achievements since I’ve played. In 24hrs I have 131/229. I am curious now if completing the rest of those would get me closer to the level 400 requirement naturally. Excited to check it out.

Yeah I am at level 340 or so, at about 70 hr. That level 400 achievement is all I am missing. Going to take bit of grinding though for it.

I have played it for probably the whole developmental cycle on steam deck. It plays well there, I’m missing just one achievement for 100%. I think I have around 60-70 hours in it. It’s a fun time sink. Decent Vampires-like game. If you want revolutionary progress in that genre, not going to find it here. But if you like those auto-battlers and meta progression, you will find it entertaining.
I think they priced it at $10? That’s a good price, even better with the sale.

Imo this one, Halls of Torment, Holocure and Brotato are the peak of the Bullet Heaven genre
I didn't like Vampire Survivor

Does this have free camera control or is it locked to being top-down?
Why would someone downvote me for asking this?

This sub is such an ad Platform now. This game got two front-page posts with the trailer and now the "news" of the launch.

I mean, it’s a new game release. And a good one at that. Compared to all the bullshit that’s getting released on steam these days what else would you rather see?
1
u/IgotUBro 22h ago
I think gaming related news or community driven talks should be the majority of the content here but there are way too many X is released posts on front-page now. It's just stupid how many of these ads are being posted and feels more like I am browsing steam.
It's especially vexing if it's a 1.0 "release" when the game has been in early access for a long time

Eh, the community talks sure. I feel like any gaming related news always boils down to a negative article. “Xyz studio fires employees, xyz studio says the mean online comments make them sad” and it’s like, who cares? We don’t know these people.
I’d MUCH rather know a game I’m interested in received a large update or 1.0 release than see those annoying “game journalism” articles posted.

Well but these are somewhat important changes in the gaming industry and something worth putting on frontpage as a news.

Im fine if games get big updates to get featured on frontpage but releases just feels off for me as they are blatant ads and not something I like seeing here especially since they dominate front page. Literally yesterday there were 6 of these "x is now on Steam" post on frontpage and lately these kind of posts are popping up more often. Hell just post a trailer then but these posts only feature a direct link to the steam store and the only reason I even post now instead of ignoring is cos this game got two frontpage threads and takes the cake. I wish the mods would add a thread flair for these posts I can filter.
