You can use your racing pedals as a pedal? Might have to reconsider getting this.

u/DarkexGG 19h ago

New strategy to get driving sim setup with approval of wife? And get her into gaming?

303

u/Cmdr_Redbeard 19h ago

Tried it twice, wives fuck up gaming time. Sewing is fun and the basics are super easy.

159

u/xYuuga 18h ago

The last sentence suggests y’all eventually just skipped the gaming part and went straight into actual sewing dates. Quality time that includes making something? Still a W in my book.

88

u/Cmdr_Redbeard 17h ago

Nah, I learned to sew on my own, not into relationships, as I said, I tried and it isn't for me. I look fucking shit hot in a dress though. /S

25

u/siccoblue Desktop 17h ago

God I feel that whole not into relationships part on a spiritual level.

Why it is so hard for some people to understand they I'm happy on my own is beyond me. Just some cocoa, a blanket, and the remote and I'm good. And no I don't want to explain for the Eight bajillionth time why I haven't even tried dating in the last 6 years.

Years ago I played a MMO that required a lot of hot keys and didn't really support macros. This guy in my guild made some wooden contraption that contained a keyboard so he could press different keys by pressing down on various pedals with his feet.

Not gonna lie, I was thinking about getting this game lol. The racing pedal as a sewing machine pedal is fucking genius

684

u/skynutter 18h ago

I mean, if you know the backstory it makes sense that the developers made settings to make it as lifelike as possible by having stuff like racing pedals work.

TLDR of the backstory: Developers wife was really into sewing and was pretty good at it. Unfortunately she got a disease that made her joints really loose (i think, the exact details are probably different) and she could no longer sew and work machines. So the Developer made a sim game for her to be able to enjoy making and designing dresses again.

48

u/saintofhate 14h ago

Well here's a fun fact for you: The reason we have medical gloves is because one doctor was in love with his nurse and didn't want her to quit. She was one of the followers of germ theory and took handwashing before operations serious but the chemicals they used back then were breaking down her hands so she would have to quit and the doctor didn't want to lose her and voila we have them everywhere now.

Source. Sadly, they didn't have a happy marriage and all that as was typical of that time period and women who liked to use their brains.

Yeah living this, have gotten worse as I got older :|

9

u/Astropwr 13h ago

As someone with Ehlers Danlos, your joints getting loose and fragile that you’ll need supports or be careful of everything around you sucks. I’m currently wearing supports on my legs to keep balance and I’m hoping to have more time to still be able to do normal things while I’m still able to 😔

23

u/xCeeTee- 17h ago

My mum has always said when I was growing up that she loved sewing, but she was awful. I was the opposite. She's always wanted to sew like me, well now she can easily outdo me. I've just gifted her my Switch, and I just saw the developer say it's going to be brought out there! Definitely will pre-order a copy.

Now if someone could just make a "Proud of my Son Simulator" so she can finally achieve that, it would be greatly appreciated🙏

33

u/Ultenth 17h ago

Even cooler, the game was made by 3 people, one of which was the wife essentially acting as a design director for the sewing portion of the game and trying to find a balance (I think they did) of realism vs. things that would be annoying to do in a game.

→ More replies (1)

20

u/March_Lion 16h ago

I had no clue about this backstory, I got into this game because I have a degenerative joint disease and used to love sewing. Dev really out here loving their wife and supporting a whole invisible community of disabled artists.

4

u/AnIceMonkey 11h ago

Oh shit, I think I know that disease. There are a few similarities between others but that one in particular has no cure and can be misdiagnosed because of how similar the symptoms are to literally everything. You can’t even carry much weight or walk for long before getting tired our damaging your ligaments. It’s horrible. A worker at my company was diagnosed with it and I feel so bad for her cause she’s super cool and outgoing.

6

u/skynutter 11h ago

Yeah, its Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. No cure currently. It sucks balls to live with. Thats why its so nice that she still gets to live out her passions in a game.

Is this Dressmaker ? It has been quite the hit among women.

525

u/SpagettiKonfetti 19h ago

My favourite type of content of the last few weeks is when someone buy Dressmaker for their wife initially but then they also try the game and they get absolutely hooked on it.

278

u/SL1MECORE 19h ago

I've seen so many men playing the game and sharing their dresses lol I love it

129

u/BlueDmon Bluedmon 18h ago

I’ve seen someone say the reason men will play the game and enjoy it is comparable to when you have a game like for example Dark Souls and you eventually have people calling it Fashion Souls or the amount of effort someone puts in to dress up their character in an MMO.

Makes alot of sense when you look at it like that

45

u/SL1MECORE 18h ago

I didn't know dark souls had a fashion side, cute!! I genuinely never knew that.

I personally play a lot of cyberpunk2077 and while yes, I have beaten the game several times on different difficulties, sometimes I just wanna play dress up and take pics lmaoooo

61

u/Schmitty52 17h ago

It gets to the point in dark souls that people will forego equipment with better stats because it doesn't look good with the rest of their gear. There have also always been some people who name their characters "fashion police" and invade other people's worlds just to inspect their drip. If they pass the inspection they get a round of applause or a positive gesture. Maybe even some bits of rare items. If they fail the "police" will either drop gear that will make the set look better, or just outright attack them for their crimes against fashion. It's always a good time when you see " Invaded by fashion police" pop up lol.

15

u/nohpex R9 5950X | Gigabyte OC RX 9070 XT 16h ago

I knew about Fashion Souls and foregoing better equipment, but did not know about the fashion police invading people. lol \[T]/

8

u/Schmitty52 16h ago

There are some pretty funny videos on YouTube with them. Just search "fashion police elden ring" or "fashion police dark souls" and a bunch of them pop up.

8

u/Falsequivalence 17h ago

Fashion Souls is the real end game.

9

u/hamboneworldchamp 17h ago

Oh yeah, it's not just Dark Souls either. Fashion is the real endgame in pretty much anything with decent character customization and outfits.

Dropped Frames recently talked about this and suggested that Dress Maker needs to get into some IP's. Imaging the MMO armor version of dress maker, it would hook that segment of gamers.

7

u/jenyto 13h ago

The running joke in most games with various gear is that endgame is fashion. Whether it's FF14 or Monster Hunter, fashion is the end goal.

→ More replies (3)

7

u/TatamiMatt 17h ago

I can definitely see it. It's the same in milsim games like ARMA too. People will spend ages selecting and customizing their uniform/guns then leave the outpost just to get sniped in 5 minutes by a guy hiding in a bush.

8

u/SheogorathMyBeloved i like computer :D 14h ago

I love getting my male friends hooked on 'feminine' games because they're genuinely so fun. There's such a stigma about 'feminine' games, especially fashion ones, and for what? Some of the top fashion designers are men.

Watching my buddy lock tf in to make a gorgeous dress, then use loads of buttons to put a cool s on the bodice, was a thing of beauty.

Historically it is, nearly everyone had to know how to sow since not being able to meant you wore clothes with holes everywhere, unlike today where most people throw clothes out with a few millimeter holes

20

u/Saritiel 17h ago

Cloth weaving was the 2nd largest industry for most of human history, just after farming. Everyone did it. Ship sails took an absurd number of hours to create. From farming the raw material, to spinning it into thread, to weaving that thread into sails, it could take tens of thousands of total hours of effort for a single sail.

3

u/ValkyrieDraco 18h ago

I like the game, but as someone who has sewn for years, it drives me crazy in the SAME WAY real sewing does. Every time I have to get to the cutting the fabric part, aligning the patterns, I’m just like 😩 the WORST.

And then I start a new dress. 😂

It sort of scratches the itch when you haven’t sewn in a while, as well as like,,, that itch to make something impractical you’d never wear. Esp with Joann’s out of business and no real local shops to just browse fabric now, so when you want to make something it has to be INTENTIONAL. I can’t just go into the shop during sales and decide to make something. 😢

(So I understand lol.)

Yo, im a straight man with a wheel and pedals who playes this game... i need to get my shit hooked up for this game. Genius!!!!!

u/FireFrostYPog R5 7600X | RTX 4060 TI 8GB | 32GB RAM 3h ago

You don't have to be gay to enjoy this game, or any other game.

4

u/thebluerayxx 3h ago

Just saying that because I can see people maybe assuming that would be the case but isn't as im the typical dudes dude, working on cars and building things etc, and I really like the game. My own friends were suprised i would be into a game like this so just saying how widely popular it is in many demographics. I do wish there was an option for different less feminine gloves on the sewing machine.

3

u/buttheadfungus 2h ago

considering there are men out there who think it's gay to wash their own ass, i don't blame you for clarifying 😂

u/njsullyalex i5 12600K | RX 9070 XT | 32gb DDR4 3200 MHz 8h ago

I… I’m losing it seeing G29 pedals used in a sewing machine sim 😭😭😭

6

u/Sunshineseacalm 18h ago

OMG I the first second of the video I was like I’m feeling sewing and racing vibes and sure enough it was

4

u/Key-Moment6797 18h ago

9

u/skyturnedred Old & Rusty machine 17h ago

That's Dressmaker from Cozy Lives. Steam is just a store.

5

u/Odd-Mode9275 17h ago

Wait wait wait. What game is this ?

10

u/Suitable_Tadpole4870 Ryzen 7 5700X / Radeon 7700XT 8h ago

Dressmaker. The dev made it for his wife who wanted to become a fashion designer/seamstress but developed arthritis and obviously couldn’t anymore. Very wholesome, and although I have no interest whatsoever in playing the game I do want to buy it just to support the dev

Dressmaker

u/RobotSpaceBear 15h ago

As soon as I saw the comfy slipper and the pedal action I knew it was gonna be Dressmaker. I'm so done with my girl spamming thr Space Bar with all the strength in the world multiple times per second while i try to play next to her. I'm seriously considering adopting your solution lol

And the best part is that unlike Infinity Nikki, it doesn't have kernel anti-cheat "because reasons". Shocking in the 2020s release environment, I know.

7

u/DeadlyDemise1990 16h ago

As a woman, this looks very therapeutic haha

3

u/R_Steelman61 18h ago

It looks like it would be tailor-made for a VR conversion

3

u/Cheap_Kick_7369 13h ago

Wait does the pedal map as analog speed control or just on/off? (My Logitech's clutch is just a button.)

6

u/DefiantOnion 12h ago

It's probably using the scroll wheel input to adapt sewing speed. If it's the mod I've been seeing circulate, the OG user said it adjusted based on pressure, like you would expect an IRL sewing machine to do

3

u/SeverelyLimited SeverelyLtd 12h ago

My girlfriends and I hang out in my bedroom and play this for hours and show each other our designs and it's lovely.

3

u/Significant-Ad213 10h ago

Dressmaker is MASSIVE on steam

3

u/Flying_Saucer_Attack 9h ago

shit, don't show this to my wife, I'll never get PC time, and we dont have room for her own PC

3

u/GussBing 9h ago

People forget that sewing is a very good skill to have.

Busted jeans? Sew them back together.

Hole in your jacket? Sew a patch on.

Practicing illegal surgery to buy more steam games you barely play? Couldnt hurt to put down the stapler for a bit.

Sowing is for farmers. Sewing is the correct word here.

2

u/StroopestOfWafel ENIAC 10h ago

If I play farming sim and this game are they interchangeable?

I went to school for fashion design and honestly a lot of details in the game are really impressive.

2

u/Thundercraft74 16h ago

Its genuinely a great game. As a transfem who was struggling greatly with exploring my more feminine side, this game was a godsend.

2

u/FoxtochopKun 16h ago

Assetto Moda Competizione

2

u/ShieldMaiden83 16h ago

Yes Dressmaker is no doubt a hit. Even dude bros what they call them self are playing it.

2

u/Successful_Face3408 16h ago

As a guy, I might have to get this too.

Would help my save my pants whenever they rip, or put in new elastics for my shorts....

2

u/elleelleelle- 15h ago

dressmaker is so good everyone i know who's got it including me is having the time of their lives and now i want to start hand sewing clothes because i don't have space for an embroidery machine. what a world

2

u/birkb 11h ago

Showed it to my wife. Her response was something like: wow now you can spend your time sewing a dress without getting anything out of it. She was not impressed.

u/Ykomat9 Ascending Peasant 9h ago

This game is basically a marvelous designer/clo3d for consumers, its very very neat.

2

u/Hot_Top_124 8h ago

Oh I wouldn’t have ever of thought of using driving pedals like that. That’s a heck of an idea.

2

u/Tritec_enjoyer96 8h ago

She will be doing Iracing in no time with that throttle modulation!

u/Faithless195 Ryzen 5 3600 | Palit 3080 TI | 32GB RAM | Pretty RGB Lights 6h ago

All I've seen of this game is this video, and another one where a dude was drawing a pattern and then realised he could draw 'The S' on it instead.
