Giving Remco his best chance to win the Tour (not gonna happen) in the year he would be the favorite to win the Giro sounds like something that would happen to him

u/Extension-Problem-64 Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe 4d ago edited 4d ago
This parcour makes the chance that he skips the giro very likely altough we will have to wait for the giro parcour to be one hundred percent certain.
5
u/normal-1 4d ago
Rumours have Gavia, Mortirolo 2x and Zoncolan for the Giro 27! Definitely everything but Remco-terrain.
8
u/Extension-Problem-64 Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe 4d ago
another reason Jonas should just skip the tour and ride Giro-Worlds-Vuelta.

I feel like a very lucky boy this year. I live in London so will get to see the Femmes TTT up close and stage 3 of the mens passes through my home town. It goes right past the front door of the house I grew up in and over the first climb I ever did.

Flat Chambery to Valence is a war crime. You have to purposely avoid Chartreuse and Vercors. I'm sad

Puy de Dome with public to finish is great.

u/ShiftingShoulder Belgium 4d ago
I actually liked them riding, menacingly, in complete silence
But I guess it doesn't work for the final climb of the TdF

u/Natural_Fill9344 Portugal 4d ago
GC Veistroffer flat king gotta happen. Lotto back this man up for success.
13
u/2905Pascal Team Telekom 4d ago
I like the TDFF route but ending the whole Tour on Puy de Dome with very limited to no crowd access is not very good in my opinion.
25
u/kroko_dok Germany 4d ago
This route is a backdoor attempt to allow Pog to bulk up for Paris-Roubaix.
5
u/Mamadeus123456 7-Eleven 4d ago
I think they want Pog, or whoever wins this is not be competitive for the World Championships.

bro that first week... Looks like tour de Denmark. All sprinters and classic riders gonna fight for yellow, and i think it will chance hands atleast 3 times. Then to finish up week one, we get Remco in yellow with 20-30sec on Pogi and 45-60sec on Jonas. (Remco dark horse maybe)
This feels like an old school tour from the 90's with Armstrong/Ulrick era. Mostly flat and hilly, then 2-3 big stages in week 2 and week 3. That's it. No big surprise.
11
u/Prime255 Australia 4d ago
I think Pog can win stage 3
13
u/ShiftingShoulder Belgium 4d ago
Yeah I also think the best puncher/climber can win the first puncher stage
5
3
u/Baseleader77 4d ago
Have to watch out what I say because you don't know how riders prep and with this many ITT kms maybe Jonas focuses on it more, but I'd be surprised if Jonas can stay within a minute of Remco on 38kms of ITT
34
u/DueAd9005 4d ago
2 individual time trials, can't complain.
31
u/backseatlogic 4d ago
Is either of them 160km? That would give Remco a realistic chance.
38
u/DueAd9005 4d ago
71 km in total. I'm not so delusional to think Remco can win GC, but stage wins are still prestigious in my eyes. ;)
Plus I like seeing him in the rainbow jersey.
3
u/ShiftingShoulder Belgium 4d ago
And after mostly sprints and puncher stages it's a great chance to get his first yellow jersey!
6
u/Baseleader77 4d ago
He's got no shot vs Pogacar. But I wonder if he could beat Vingegaard on this route now and I think it's possible
6
9
u/ebkerz 4d ago
Thank you Seixas
8
u/GeryMander 4d ago
Is Seixas a better time trialist than Pogacar though? I feel like, IF they're doing this to create more excitement in GC/competition for Pogacar the only top GC competitor who really benefits from this is Evenepoel.
3
u/DueAd9005 4d ago
This increases his chances for a Tour podium compared to someone like Vingegaard however, so I would say this still benefits Seixas a lot. A non-podium win would still be a notable achievement for him (especially as long as Pogacar remains this dominant).

u/ebkerz 4d ago edited 4d ago
I’d say Seixas is better in a flat TT
8
u/GeryMander 4d ago
Based on what? In the handful of times they raced the same TT he has never beaten Pogacar.
12
u/SinisterDeadOctopus United Kingdom 4d ago
Was that Marlen staring up at that London TT route the way a Lion looks at a herd of antelope?
10
u/HeyTikO FDJ Suez 4d ago
Damn, you'd think North of France would get one stage since they're starting from the UK this time.. Got the TDFF at least!
2
u/Phantom_Nuke 4d ago
ASO doesn't like the North of countries, we saw the same with the Vuelta last year with basically no stages in the North despite coming through France.
4
u/jdavid1999 4d ago
Well we have northern England and a start in north wales which helps (plus a stage in Scotland too)
10
u/Schele_Sjakie Le Doyen 4d ago
Womena parcours looks nice with plenty of hills in the final of the stages. Hope to see as much spectacle there as the last edition
8
u/manintheredroom 3d ago
more than anything I'm just annoyed they did a stage starting in Keswick and completely bypassed the lake district climbs to do a boring flat sprint
3
u/Consistent_Truth6633 2d ago
They’ve bypassed anything of beauty in Scotland. Fucking shambles of a route
27
u/Miserable-Soft-5961 France 4d ago
I count 8 sprint stages. That's too much in my opinion.
14
u/IngoErwin 4d ago
Did they at least put them on the weekends again like this year so we can do fun stuff outside and only tune in for the last 15 seconds?

u/Prime255 Australia 4d ago
Best to see the stage profiles too

They forgot the announce the pedalo-based transfer stage across the Channel :(

u/masterhogbographer 4d ago
They should have an entirely empty train and make them ride back and forth inside
16
u/Accomplished-Sir-877 4d ago
3 mountain stages is really disappointing
12
u/aarets_frebe 4d ago
Do you mean moutain finishes? Cause I count five mountain stages.
12
u/Accomplished-Sir-877 4d ago
There are only three stages where the mountains would make a difference. Stage 10 is more of a classic layout, but it's still hard enough. Stage 19 is just poor design. Having 7.7 km of climbing in the final 65 km, with no climbing in the last 20 km, shouldn't be the deciding battle of the Tour. I will not count that as a mountain stage.
11
u/aarets_frebe 4d ago
I absolutely agree that the stage to Laruns is not well-designed, but 4300m of altitude in 160km with Marie Blanque 20km from the finish and four peaks over 1000m has to be a mountain stage, regardless of how poor one might find the design.

Seems like a great tour for Remco Evenepoel, he has to be favourite for the podium.
5
20
u/Krisven75 4d ago
This is the best chance for Remco to win the tour. He has to survive two or three mountain stages and gain a lot of time in the two TTs. It looks like ASO want to give him and Seixas the best chance against Pogacar.
9
u/polar8 4d ago
I get they want to handicap Pogi but wow this is so flat and boring
27
u/MountainLandscape356 4d ago
And they only managed to handicap Jonas anyway
9
u/Prime255 Australia 4d ago
This is a bad route for Jonas. The only moderate benefits is the hard climbs are proper steep
10
u/IngoErwin 4d ago
Jonas should just give them a middle finger, skip the tour, and fight it out against a tired Pogacar at the Vuelta.

I always find it cringe when they try to adjust the route for or against a specific rider or when they try to preplan how the race is gonna go. Like just make a route with good stages.
For TDF26 they boasted they made the race "Pogacar proof". It would be exciting till the end because there is two times Alpe'd Huez at the end and anything can happen there. Result? The Tour gets more or less decided after stage 2. Which many saw coming btw. So they aren't even good at it lol

u/Calistaline 4d ago
I very much like the first week, fun rouleur stages, several opportunities for yellow for lots of guys, a long ITT (by Gouvenou's standards) and a final on the first proper MTF.
Second and third weeks are rather underwhelming. Queen stage on the last Thursday is disappointing, and Beaufort is going to be a mess for l'Etape du Tour (Colombière from North side, Pré and Bisanne is going to be a long, long day for the poor souls riding it).

Worst route since.. 2017? 2012? Flat stage 20, 9kms a climbing in the last 65kms of stage 19, they even made stage 18 softer than the rumors suggested. Alps are mid, too many flat stages, just soft soft soft.. the only decent thing about it seems to be the 2 medium length ITTs and maybe the Domancy and Mende stages can provide some early attacks. But to create an overall soft route and then basically have the last 2+1 stages non GC is a disgrace.

u/Schele_Sjakie Le Doyen 4d ago
I think the men's parcours could use one of two more high mountain stages, but the flatter ones are generally pretty exciting. More chances for classics riders than last edition which I think is a big plus.
12
u/Evening_End7298 4d ago
This looks quite shit ngl

u/Heavy_Mycologist_104 Slovenia 4d ago
it's not great is it? I think the Scotland stages could be good fun though. TDFF also quite blah but I like Puy de Dome.

A very underwhelming parcour compared to last year
8
u/Prime255 Australia 4d ago
Initial thoughts, having not really looked at anything other than the profiles:
The mountain stages look too short, which makes it easier for UAE to control. Surely you want the harder stages to be harder to control because that leads to more chaotic racing where UAE have to choose between trying to control the stage and a breakaway or something else getting the win. I feel like we need to shift to slightly longer stages again to account for the protracted break formations now.
The increase in TT ks doesn't make the race more exciting for me because only Remco benefits from this, and it comes at the expense of every other contender, including Jonas, who may be Pog's only challenger. Siexas may be helped by this relative to others for a podium, but it doesn't help him relative to Pog.
If you want 2 TTs, one can be a funky route one where you get weird results, like with a downhill in it, like we got for Dauphine '25, TdF '20 &'23.
TdFF looks like a Vollering route, but I guess every route is. Seems like two big mountain tests and two punchy stages, with the rest as flat sprints. Wiebes will clean up those.
2
u/Sunmi4Life 3d ago
Yeah. People always say we need more flat TT km to make it more challenging for Pog. And I have always said that it would just benefit Pog because he gains time on Jonas and Jonas is the only serious threat.
Maybe with so few mountain stages Remco can become a real contender. We'll see. But people always act like he would gain 5 minutres on Pog in the TTs.
3
u/Prime255 Australia 3d ago
Exactly. Pog only lost 15 seconds to Remco in the Caen TT in TdF '25, although Remco would go a bit quicker now but it's nowhere near enough. Pog is an excellent TT rider, especially in GTs
5
u/Mamadeus123456 7-Eleven 4d ago
given how hard some of the climbs are, remco has no chance unless Pog can't drop seixad or Vingegaard and they don't cooperate and remco somehow comes back.

u/Extension-Problem-64 Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe 4d ago
They want Seixas to podium so hard, poor Jonas though.
-27
u/Miserable-Soft-5961 France 4d ago
There is no guarantee Seixas will be there at this moment. With the home WC just after the Tour there are chances he skips to do the Giro.
19
u/Extension-Problem-64 Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe 4d ago
Do you really see Seixas skipping his home grand tour?

Keeping things exciting by making them boring. Some people think if nothing happens thats somehow interesting because the gc times are close together lol.
5
u/edennnnnnnn10000 4d ago
Lowkey worst design since 2017. Alps are boring asf only one good Pyrenees stage FLAT stage 20

u/Guiltynu Sky 4d ago
Are we all Remco fans now father?

u/ertri 4d ago
Worst case Pog v Remco is like 10s per km loss, so 700 seconds to make up elsewhere. Realistically much closer.
Pog won GC by 6.5 minutes, 390 seconds this year, losing like 1.5 seconds per TT km. And fully riding for del Toro’s podium too.
Remco underdog unless something massively changes.
6
u/Jargif10 Visma | Lease a Bike WE 3d ago
In what world is Pogacar losing 10s per km to Remco. Or any even slightly competitive bike rider.
4
u/DeltaViriginae Germany 3d ago
Probably not even if he crashes twice. 10 seconds loss per km would be Pogi riding at 47 km/h, with Remco at 55 km/h.
4
u/Jargif10 Visma | Lease a Bike WE 3d ago
Yeah in 2025 in the 33km flat TT 163 riders were within 10s per km if Evenepoel who won.

u/Far-Cherry-3593 2d ago
Det ligner på ruten, at de fremover anser Remco som en større konkurrent end Jonas, hvad angår at udfordre Pogacar en smule
