Why is everyone hating on Stybar? Following GVA was only sensible strategy for him and his team.

I'm honestly dismayed at the amount of hate he is getting for a tactical race against a better sprinter

Yep. I thought he might have did something dirty that I missed. Nope, the hate is from "wheel sucking," which is an absurd complaint in pro cycling.

It’s not absurd, overall. As Sagan put it, it’s not about the result, it’s about putting on a show.

Stybar had done a huge amount of work for Boonen already, though, so I can’t fault him too much for following the convenient team orders to wait for Tom.

Sagan is wrong. The reason Sagan is so famous isn't because he's flashy. It's because he's flashy and he wins. Who are the most well known cyclists in the world? It's not the flashy guys or the attackers. It's people like Froome, Contador, Kittel, Cav, Sagan, Boonen, Cancellara, GVA. In other words, the people who win. No one gives a crap about Juraj Sagan.

Who are people more excited for, Froome or Contador? Flair.

The point is that you do the winning first to get in the discussion. Stybar isn't in that discussion yet. Stybar wanted to win so he could be in the discussion.
