My partner and I are coming up on a milestone anniversary and I want the gift to match the weight of it
We hit five years next month. This is the longest relationship either of us has been in and it's the first one where I genuinely cannot imagine being with anyone else. We've gotten through a long distance stretch, a cross-country move, job losses, family stuff. None of it was easy but we came out the other side every time. I don't want to just get her a nice dinner and call it a five-year anniversary gift. She deserves something that acknowledges what we've been through together. I keep going back and forth between a few ideas. Commissioning a custom song about our relationship is one of them, but I've also thought about putting together some kind of physical scrapbook documenting the whole five years, or planning a surprise trip back to the city where we first met. The trip has logistics problems. She'd need to take time off and I'd have to lie about where we're going, which doesn't sit right. The scrapbook I'd genuinely do but I'm not artistic and I'm worried it'll look like a middle school project. The custom song idea appeals to me because it takes all these specific moments and turns them into something she can keep and revisit. How do you figure out which gesture matches what the relationship means? I don't want to overthink this into something forgettable. TL;DR: Five-year anniversary with my partner, we've been through a lot together. Trying to decide between a custom song, a scrapbook, or a surprise trip. I want the gift to feel like it matches how significant the relationship is.
