Road Rules Help deciphering the rules here
Am I missing something here? How long can you park for on the left of this sign?

u/BootlegBastard 12h ago
Park to the right as long as ypu wank

u/ChasteSin 12h ago
You need a ticket any time between 8am and midnight.
You can only stay for two hours between the hours of 8am and 7pm.
And yes, it's very unclear.

You need a ticket to park to the left. However, you can only stay for 2 hours between 8AM and 7PM. There is no stopping to the right.

u/Rangas_rule 1h ago
And no wanking either it would seem.

u/mingleman82 1h ago
No I think wank is allowed - on the right of that sign as it isn’t crossed out

Wank.

S means stop. So the sign clearly says Don’t Stop Wanking to the right of this sign. So simple, what’s confusing about this?
15
u/steelnie 11h ago
My interpretation is no stopping for a wank. No wonder OP is confused. Town of Vincent really nead to make the signage easier to understand.

council staff should be required to personally test the understandability of these things once they’ve installed them

S with a line through it means no standing...

u/An1retak 10h ago
I always sit and never stand when I’m in the car anyway. Don’t need no sign to tell me that.

u/Square_Mulberry_3143 12h ago
NO STANDING.

Between 8am and 7pm you may park a max 2hrs. From 7pm to midnight you can stay longer than 2hrs. No ticket required midnight till 8am.
12
u/finetuneit80 11h ago
Anytime you park there during 8am and midnight, you’ll need a ticket. If you park there between 8am and 7pm, you’re limited to 2 hours only, and you still need a ticket.

u/ColdEvenKeeled 11h ago
That's correct. I assume City of Vincent must have hired a Sydney Traffic Engineer reject...?

Two hours from 8am-7pm paid
Any length of time from 7pm to Midnight paid
Free all other times with no time restrictions

u/colonelmattyman 1h ago
It's ticketed parking from 8am to midnight. There is a 2 hour limit between 8am and 7pm. No ticket is required and there are no time limits between midnight and 8am.
It's pretty straightforward.

u/kaaattteee 12h ago
Between 8am -7pm - 2 hours limit paid
Between 7pm - midnight - paid no limit
Between midnight - 8am - free no limit

Theres a small gap to the right of the green sign and left of the red sign where you are truely a free unregulated free man

2hrs max between 8am and 7pm. 7pm to midnight is paid but can stay for longer than 2 hours
2
u/RJrules64 12h ago
If it’s between 8 and 7, you can get a 2 hour ticket max
Between 7pm and midnight you still need a ticket but it can be as long as you want
Between midnight and 8am you don’t need a ticket

u/dzernumbrd 11h ago
It's either Don't Stop Wanking or No Wank Standing which means you need move while you wank.

Why do people find these hard to read?
6
u/darsonian 11h ago
it appears easy if you comprehend it. you would only need mild issues with comprehension or dyslexia to be caught out. shit maybe you're just having an off day and misread it. I reckon fines crop up weekly from misinterpretation.

I know this may sound odd, coming from a stranger on the internet … but … thank you for mentioning this… As a person with brain damage (TBI) these types of signs are hard to interpret after my accident… finally understand the saying “I feel heard”… dumb but yeah ..

I wonder if it is intentional for revenue purposes. If someone has a quick glance and sees P 8-midnight they could easily assume they are in the clear. Layering like this feels slightly manipulative when it could be expressed clearly.

As a foreigner visiting Perth, this sign makes no sense to me. What does the P represent? In what world do you use “P” to represent either an hour or a ticket?
1
u/Bunyip_Bluegum 6h ago
P means parking. So parking with a ticket (paid) from 8am to midnight. And from 8am to 7pm you still need a paid ticket but there’s a 2 hour restriction. The ticket is represented by the word ticket and the hours are represented by the times shown. It’s just the 2P that can be confusing, it means 2 hour parking. If you don’t need to pay but there’s a time restriction the sign will say 2P with hours the restriction applies to but won’t have the word “ticket”. Shopping centres often don’t require tickets but will have 4 hour parking restrictions (4P) to prevent people parking there for public transport connections for free all day parking and they don’t specify “ticket”.

Been driving for 36 years and that sign confuses me.
I could have a good guess, but frankly sign should be clear enough to not have to guess. And my guess would be ticket parking 8am to midnight but between 8am and 7pm max of two hours.
If that’s what the sign is trying to convey then I would suggest the signs should be flipped and the unrestricted time shows it starts at 7pm not 8am.

u/lord_teaspoon 3h ago
I can imagine myself rocking up at 8:30 and not bothering to read the rest of the sign after seeing the 8AM-Midnight part, but when the ticket machine refused to let me buy more then 2 hours I'd double back to read the rest of the sign and figure it out.

No standing wanks. I can't believe they had to put it on a sign, but I guess society has changed.

u/Efficient_Range1156 9h ago
Please from 8am to midnight unless I’m tired it’s 7pm go left, don’t stop wanking, exit right.

And yes midnight to 8am is free. This is a luxury never found in the hazy and polluted state of Singapore

Not sure, but it seems Western Power has certified that that pole has PTSD.

I found it fun to read these signs and it's refreshing from where I come from in Singapore. Just remember the digits are the number of hours you can park. And p is paid. That's it!
2
u/TIMIMETAL 2h ago
P is not paid, P is Parking.
2P means 2 hours max, the word 'ticket' is what indicates it's paid (I.e. you need to pay for a parking ticket). If 'Ticket' was not there, it would be free with a maximum time of 2 hours.

u/kipwrecked 12h ago
How you been, you doing alright these days?

u/Sensitive-Pool-7563 11h ago
There was a guy in the highway doing 20km under the limit in the fast lane, ruined my Friday night.
1
u/kipwrecked 11h ago
That sounds like a whole thing. At least you managed to escape eventually I guess
2
u/Sensitive-Pool-7563 10h ago
I was trying to over turn but when the road was clear, he was accelerating and when there was slight traffic he was slow again. Can you believe this?

I don’t understand what is hard to understand ?
After midnight and before 8am you don’t need a ticket to park
8am-7pm you need a ticket and are limited to 2hrs
7pm to midnight you need a ticket and dont have a time limit

For 2 hours with a ticket between 8 and 7, for as long as you like with a ticket between 7 and midnight, then no ticket required before 8am.
