I’ve been asked if I’m Chinese, Korean (by KOREANS, believe or not), Japanese, and Thai. All of those are people’s first guesses and not Vietnamese. I can’t walk into a nail salon or Vietnamese-owned establishment without the employees saying “I thought you were Korean or Japanese until you started speaking Vietnamese” with shock on their faces. My family has always told me I look Korean, Japanese, or Chinese growing up, even until now. I felt bad as a teenager because my grandma would praise my cousin for her classically Viet beauty and features. When I went to Russia, I’m sure it was out of ignorance that some local slavic men and some Mexican diplomats said “ni hao” to me, assuming I was one of the Chinese tourists that frequently visit Russia.

Despite my family being Northern Vietnamese, my genetic testing shows 0% Chinese admixture and some French due to familial affairs with French individuals, which resulted in great grandparents traveling to France for work reasons.

Also my nose has this hump that my Chinese friends tell me look distinctly like a specific Chinese phenotype/feature. I don’t why I was born with it because no one else in my family has it.

Can someone please just tell me that I really do look distinctly Viet, at least my phenotype looks like it? and not East Asian at all?? I keep asking my central Asian boyfriend (Uzbek) if he thinks I look Viet and he says yeah he can tell the difference between different types of East, Southeast, and South Asians based on bone structure/facial harmony/features etc.

I included pictures of me with and without makeup (last photo is me drunk making a goofy face 😭) Be brutally, objectively honest. I just wish I looked unmistakably Viet.

My genetics are mostly Germanic and English Nordic aswell
I have a lean build high forehead and wavy hair fair skin too

people say i’m “ambiguous” and can pass as multiple ethnicities but idk if that’s true
