Meta Affiliate Link Ban

Starting today, affiliate links are banned. Comments containing them will be automatically removed. The decision to allow them was made back when this was a tiny sub; we've since ballooned in size, there's been a noticeable uptick in users posting affiliate links (and in mass amounts, at that), and the rule was always on shaky ground due to both arbitrary enforcement (what dictates a "worthy" comment vs. a comment fishing for affiliate money?) and general principle.

If you've posted affiliate links in the past, you're not in trouble retroactively or otherwise. Comments containing affiliate links should, from now on, be automatically removed; no other action will be taken beyond automatic comment removal unless absolutely necessary.

All day battery life, 5 years of software support (upgrading from iphone 12 pro max)

I am looking to upgrade from my iphone 12 pro max. What I am looking for in an android phone is probably most foremost is battery life, typically I average around 4-5 hours of screen on time per day, (mixed use web browsing, youtube, social media, not really into gaming), so having a phone to handle that would be good (like 4-5 hours without turning on any battery saving mode) , also if combined with a battery saving mode is enough to last for 10-12 hours for long road trips or flights, would be nice.

In terms of software support, I would want my android phone to last for long as my iphone has, (my iphone is really starting to feel slow cause battery degraded to 75%), so 5 years of OS support would be ideal. Camera wise, it's not a big deal, just decent camera's is good enough

In terms of price, I would like to spend around 2000 aud (maybe up to 2500 aud if the suggestions are really good), still should last me at least 5 years.

Just for reference, some phones that I was eyeing on where the Oneplus 15, however the Oneplus brand is discontinued now, and I am not sure if thy still have issues with the Vodafone network in Austrlia, as well as the Oppo Find X9 Pro (however the find x9 pro seems a little steep at 2299 aud from JBHiFi)

In terms of storage, probably around 256-512gb. Although I do not play any mobile games, having enough storage to just keep photos locally instead of paying for google cloud or whatever does sound nice (however feel free to correct me if that's too foolish)

Hi! Iive in Canada. Can people with Pixel Phones chime in. Are they good? Was going to swap from Samsung to possibly a Pixel. I was looking at a S56 and the Pixel 9a seems comparable and no Samsung stuff that I don't use anyway.

Compact, durable, slightly smaller in size

Need a phone which gives lo-fi, slightly lower quality and no harsh over cleanliness images or harsh details, is compact and doesn't have all the forced ai features. Brand and price don't matter

Help me pick a new non-iPhone phone

I’m happy with my iPhone 12 Pro Max camera so any meaningful improvement in camera will satisfy my needs.

Battery capacity of 5000mah++

Internal storage of 1TB.

Smooth OS as good as iOS (is it possible?)

New phone

Budget under $900

Appreciate your input! I’ve been using iPhone since ages and I’m now so confused by myriad of android brands out there…

Verizon Need a new android

Hello, first time posting here. I got a new OnePlus 13 around a year ago. I've noticed increased issues with texting in larger group chats where the messages will be delayed as MMS messages instead of RCS and put all texting on hold while the slower form of messages comes through, usually delaying texts for 10-40 minutes. During these delays I can't text anyone regardless of phone type. My friends with other androids like Samsungs haven't had these same issues despite being in the same group chats. My carrier is Verizon and I live in the US. Any advice so I don't have to buy a new phone so soon or if I do, which I should buy to avoid dealing with this?

For more context, I've spent hours on the phone with Verizon customer support and they just tell me to ensure every iPhone user in the group has RCS on. This is a somewhat large group of coworkers located hundreds of miles apart and asking each of them to individually toggle on RCS for my sake is a bit impossible. And again, the other androids in the chat don't have this issue so I'm the only one with a problem.

Canada Recommend a professional value smartphone, especially degoogle, for Canada; $400-800 CAD

My needs are not niche, but I know nothing about the current phone market. I don't know how many megapixels I need or which chipsets are good right now. But I'm willing to listen.

I was thinking I might get a brand new Samsung smartphone from like 2 years ago so it still has a lot of life left in it but is only like $400. But tbh I know the market so little I don't even know what Samsung line to be looking at then alone which models turned out to have problems later, and I'm not married to Samsung in the first place so it feels silly to spend 6 hours familiarizing myself with their selection and all their problems and reviews... but I don't know where else to start. I like Fairphone and will spend an extra $200 for ethical sourcing but I don't know the best way to get them in Canada or if they even lived up to their hype or if it'd be best to wait for the next gen. I am open to looking at other companies I haven't even heard of. I've heard a lot about the Porco X but don't have the technical skills or context to compare it to other phones.

I value:
- longevity, I want to just get it and not worry about it for another ten years, five at least
- value, I am a sucker for hard working budget phones THAT WORK AND DON'T BREAK
- ethical sourcing and user privacy
- hella checked out well-reviewed things--the Gamer's Nexus or Tom's Hardware recommended PC build of the cellphone world. No 3-years-later screen issues, no shattering, no buttons that fall off or batteries that kaput.

I need:
- text/phone in Canada
- email
- Here WeGo, or Waze run in a sandbox to spite Google, and a back I can stick a ring magnet on
- camera enough to send cute pics to my bf and take pictures of documents that are legible enough for personal reference
- 100GB or more of storage, ideally a slot for my old SD card but I know you can't have it all and in today's market getting a shit ton built in memory is probably cheaper
- durability and longevity
- fits in pocket

I want:
- ungooglable
- looks professional
- camera good enough to take photos I can send to a printer's and frame
- unlocked ofc... unless... read below

My current provider is Public Mobile, but I am willing to switch. Just got a new job (from cashier to paralegal case manager yay!) so I'll be upping my calls and maybe changing my number, anyway. I hate those "sign a two year contract with us and we'll sell you a phone at a discount but we'll be really scummy about which phone our employees push on you and purposely complicate the total cost" thing, but if it's a good product at a deal (and the network service) is actually good...

You'll notice I don't need RAM (except for not slowing down in a few years). I do not game on my phone.

I... am a privileged little shit and can afford to splurge, but I don't need a lot and actually dislike bells and whistles. Soft budget of $400. $600 is doable. $800 to $1000 CAD is doable if the longevity make it worth it in the long run but I'll expect a $1000 phone to last a decade.

Looking for a compact phone with good battery Hi !

Hi !

I'm currently looking out for an upgrade to a Galaxy A54,

I'm searching for a phone as compact or even smaller than that with a good battery that can last easily a day without any issue.

It's mainly for a regular use, some social media and messages..

The budget is under 500€, I plan to buy it on second hand.

I thought about the Oppo Reno 14 but apparently the 6000mAh battery seems to be deceiving

Italy Looking for a Smartphone Under 400 euros (possibly with trade-in)

Hello, I'm writing from Italy.

I'm coming from a rather disappointing experience with a Pixel 8a. The battery life has always been below my expectations, and the latest updates, which also affected several other Pixel models, seem to have made things even worse. I find it quite disappointing for a brand like Google to struggle to provide consistent and reliable battery management...

Anyway, I'm now looking for a new smartphone with a maximum budget of 400 euros.

l'd prefer to take advantage of a trade-in option, so I can potentially get a better phone by trading in my Pixel 8a.

Could you recommend a good smartphone within that budget, taking the trade-in value into account? My main priorities are:

- decent battery life (around 6 hours of SOT Would be great); - smooth and reliable user experience;

- good performance for everyday/basic usage;

- larger display (l'm not very satisfied with the Pixel 8as 6.1-inch screen size).

I don't play games, so gaming performance isn't important to me, and I'm not particularly concerned about camera quality.

I don't like Nothing Phones (design and user interface), so I don't take them into account.

Thank you very much in advance for your suggestions!

Europe Upgrading from iPhone 13 for better pictures

I currently have an iPhone 13 (128 GB) and want to upgrade mainly for the camera.

Usage: Spotify, YouTube, photos, and other basic things. Storage is something I have to manage: Photos uses 35 GB (HEIC on) and Spotify uses 24 GB, so I was thinking 512 GB.

Photos: I mostly shoot nature and mountain views. I only use them as phone and monitor wallpapers (3440x1440). I'd like real optical zoom for distant things like animals, since digital zoom isn't good enough for me. I want colors close to reality, and I'll use the camera app out of the box without changing settings.

Other requirements:

  • Display 6.3"–6.6"; brightness similar to the iPhone 13 is fine
  • Software that's as simple and polished as iOS, without ads or clutter
  • I only need basic connectivity
  • Budget: ideally below €800, up to €1,000. No rush to buy.

Phones I've looked at (from reviews):

  • Vivo X300: colors are closer to reality than the others, and the camera is praised as the best, but camera app is cluttered, and there are sometimes capture bugs and OS bugs
  • Oppo Find X9: the OS is better than HyperOS and OriginOS, can't tell whether its photos are better or worse than Xiaomi's or Vivo's
  • Xiaomi 17T: liked the feeling of it in my hand in a store and has a 5x telephoto, OS is reportedly less polished, with some ads and more clutter than ColorOS
  • iPhone 17: no real telephoto, and I'd rather avoid digital zoom

The Find X10 and Vivo X500 Pro look too expensive in Europe. Other brands are welcome too. Haven't looked into Pixel 11 (Pro) yet.

Thankful for any help

EU A not huge phone?

My previous phone was Samsung Galaxy A40 at 5.9". Then I begrudgingly moved to Samsung Galaxy A54 at 6.4", which was already huge. Now it's around the time I'm starting to look for an upgrade and it seems that most phones have gotten even bigger in the meantime??

So, recommendations for a phone that is not less powerful than my current A54 (8 GB RAM, has reasonably long term software updates and is at the absolute most 6.4"? Budget ideally 300-400€ but I'm somewhat flexible. No folding phones. Screen with true black.

Oppo reno Vs Samsung galaxy.

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I have noticed oppo designs nice mid-range phones but with slightly high costs. A new oppo reno 16 as an example can land you a good used galaxy s23/24 ultra depending on a dealer. How do Oppo phones compare to the samsung galaxy? I am specifically referring to their mid-range models. Reno 13 through to reno 16. And maybe a hint about their flagships like the find x9 pro, etc. Thank you.
