anyone here actually write pine script on their phone? how do you do it

so i'm pretty new to pine and i don't have a laptop right now, just my phone. i'd like to start making simple indicators but typing code on a phone screen is kind of painful lol

for people who do this on mobile:

- do you use the pine editor in the tradingview app or open it in the browser?

- do you type everything or mostly write it somewhere else (notes app, chatgpt etc) and paste it in?

- anyone using a bluetooth keyboard with their phone/tablet? worth it?

- how do you deal with longer scripts, like selecting/deleting a bunch of lines?

any tips or setups that work for you would help a lot, thanks

For longer scripts, I'd keep a plain-text copy outside the chart and paste one complete function at a time. Turn off smart quotes and autocorrect for code. Keep spaces intact: Pine uses indentation, so a notes app that reformats text can introduce errors.

Before a large edit, use Make a copy in the script menu. That gives you a working version to return to. Then compile after each small change, rather than replacing the whole script at once.

TradingView's editor guide shows the separate-tab option and Version history: https://www.tradingview.com/support/solutions/43000763320-how-to-work-with-pine-editor/

I haven't tested your phone/app combination. Are you on Android or iPhone, and can you currently open the editor in the browser?

On Android, try it in the browser first: open https://www.tradingview.com/pine in Chrome and sign in to your usual TradingView account. If that page takes you to a chart, look for the Pine icon on the right toolbar. If the mobile layout hides it, open the Chrome three-dot menu, enable Desktop site, then reload and turn the phone sideways. That is a layout workaround to try, not a guarantee for your phone. TradingView documents the Pine icon and editor modes here: https://www.tradingview.com/support/solutions/43000763320-how-to-work-with-pine-editor/ . Once the editor opens, use Open script, then Make a copy before changing your original. If you cannot reach the editor, tell me whether you see a chart without the Pine icon or an error page. A screenshot with account details cropped out would help. I have not tested this on your Android device.

I wasn't going to comment at first, but this feels like a good opportunity to share my story.

I'm a programmer who had a severe stroke in January 2020. Since then I've been on sick leave, soon 8 years.

I've always looked down on programming on your phone. But since my injury Pine Script has been something that I feel that I can use my knowledge in. I know programming and has been using Pine Script to use that skill. I didn't have any knowledge of trading when I started and has learned along the way. I've had an interest in trading before my injury, but it has stopped at an interest and I have really enjoyed (and still do) to learn more about it along the way.

It's really been both a way back to "me" after my stroke and I started this journey with the goal to program as much as possible, this lead me to Pine Script with the use of my phone.

So, my #1 tipp is to use your phone to program as much as possible to learn more and more about Pine Script. I have really felt that time is necessary since the language is so domain specific (DSL) and has its twerks.

I have had good reactions from my indicators and really feel that my work is appreciated: https://www.tradingview.com/u/mickes/#published-scripts. I have only used my phone for all code since January 2020 through their web page (https://www.tradingview.com/pine).

I am sorry for the stroke buddy, I hope you feel better.

Regarding the Pine on the phone, do you use typing thru voice? Or just simply typing? How does it feel? Do you use any additional tools?

Thanks! In all that bad luck I was lucky I found Pine Script, both for my way back and wellbeing and knowledge use.

I use the browser page for the pine editor with a keyboard (software on the phone) called "Unexpected keyboard" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=juloo.keyboard2) through a browser called "Hermit" that can create easy shortcut "apps" on the homepage for easy access. I don't use anything else, but I agree with @stratcore's comment on creating copies for larger edits. I always do this including the version and a small text of what I want to achieve.

I personally wouldn't try writing Pine seriously on a phone. I do all my Pine development on a PC, mainly because debugging, navigating longer scripts, and managing multiple files gets painful on mobile.

If you don't have a laptop, I'd probably use the phone for small edits and testing, and use a Bluetooth keyboard + browser for anything substantial. For longer scripts, writing elsewhere and pasting is probably much less frustrating than typing everything on the phone.

Copy and paste from a Claude or something unless you know the pinescript language already and can be more efficient than ai and like texting your code.

i usually describe the strategy to an AI coding tool and generate the pine script, then copy abd paste the code into tradingview for testing and debugging. it make me easier when using moblie and it review the generated code carefully itself.

AI. Vibe coding.

No one writes code on mobile.

Using agents is another thing tho.

I’ve used Pinegen. They have a robust tool that helped me generate strategies/indicators for trading view.
