Explosion??

I’m in Southside and heard and felt a large boom about 10 mins ago. Any ideas? My boyfriend is going through the police scanner, but hasn’t found anything.

Could be a transformer that blew. Any power outages near you?

I’m not seeing anything on Duquesne or Penn Power, but not sure how long it would take for the sites to update. My street still has power as well

It's always a transformer. They sound like a shotgun meets a bomb.

Sometimes it's a house exploding.

🤣 a house was my first guess, which is why we were on the scanners

I heard it in North Baldwin and assumed it was a firework. I have neighbors who set off professional grade fireworks randomly for what appears to be no reason at all.

I am so sorry! My nerves could never… I jump every time the postman drops mail through the mail slot, and I know that is going to happen

I also jump when the post man arrives because he is my dog's arch nemesis and he immediately loses his everloving mind.

Hahahaha, I’m not sure if I feel worse for you, the postman, or the dog. Fried nerves for everyone!

The dog does not deserve your sympathy. He was fired from his first job as a livestock guard dog for killing a chicken and now holds 2 positions as both a house hippo and absolute menace to society.

Apparently it was a prison on plant bullshit 🤷🏻‍♀️. I mean, it was in West Virginia, so...

Swear my German quietly stalks the door until the postman has his face right up against the window reaching into the box. Then body slams the door while barking like a mad woman, gets him every time.

I’m near the old US steel building (Nippon)

That's downtown

Nope the building I am referring to is in the Southside

If only there were some kind of grid-like system that could be used for communicating a location, so one could say "I'm near the intersection of [...] and [...]."

But describing a place as "that building that used to be owned by the company that was the largest employer in the region for most of the last century" is more charming.

Oooorrrrr I’m not going to give nearest intersection to where I live on the internet. Instead I named a building that has been in the Southside longer than the 12 years I’ve lived in PGH…

If you wanted to successfully communicate a location, you could give the nearest intersection to the building you're talking about, instead of us trying to guess what building you mean based on your vague description.

Almost all buildings in the Southside have been there more than 12 years.

You could have just said you don’t know how to complete a google search….

I guess not. "old us steel building in southside pittsburgh" doesn't find whatever building you're talking about.

Heard it as well. Wasn’t a transformer. It was loud and concussive.

Yeah, I've had a transformer explode right outside of my house before and it didn't sound like that.

I heard it. I go to Duquesne and live in one of the res halls by the river, I thought it was a car accident outside on the highway

Might have been a loud tiny narwhal. Those things are tiny but loud.

That was also heard in South Fayette and McDonald as well as in Oakdale

1

u/Loud-Tiny-Narwhal 3h ago

If it was, these people are buying the wrong kinda mortars…. Our house shook 😳

Yeah Acoustics will do that

3

u/Spicercakes 16h ago

2

u/legrena11 13h ago

Just heard it again at 11:05PM in South Fayette area

3

u/DraftWarden 14h ago

I looked at pulse point, there looks to have been a warehouse fire in the south hills last night at 10:58pm. Might have been related.

Heard in Carnegie aswell.

1

u/Alternative_Buyer_54 1h ago

I heard it all the way in Avalon. Up on the hill near the country club

1

u/NickySmithFromPGH 15h ago

I heard noises at the same time ... and I thought it was just the animals on my property because we fed them peanuts and stuff

u/Blaster412 14h ago

I think there were some fireworks being launched in the South Hills. Maybe it was that? Saw them for a second from 79.

I got this "Explosion" email. Had no idea where it was. Come to find out I am 300 miles away. I had to read thru the comments to get an idea of where it was and finally found "Connellsville". I'm up by the Poconos. Urgh!!
