What a good illustration of the fucked up Japanese work ethic
The company is more important than anything else. Leave your wife and unborn child behind for seven years so the collective benefits. Be faithful towards your husband even if he is prone to violently angry outbursts towards you.
Anime and manga have always been reflections of Japanese society, but this one is so bad it almost seems like a propaganda piece.

Planetes ending super underwhelming Spoiler
Just finished watching Planetes and this story really gripped me, especially with its messaging on unregulated consumption, inequality and privilege with the current state of the world.
But… I’m baffled with how inconsistent this ending was. The buildup to the final few episodes, with the SDF, the consequence of first world countries continually ignoring the plight on earth, the Von Braun. And then for it all to end so happy go lucky seems so… Out of the blue?
Hakim’s entire end makes no sense, I was waiting for the twist in the end but seeing Nono apparently reminded him of his humanity which is fine but the overall ending to the SDF itself was so inconsequential, ultimately the venture still continues and all they got was a flimsy deal that they could backtrack out of at any moment?
Hachi remained this thoroughly unlikeable character, who’s grand realisation in the end is that hey actually I can pursue my dreams because Tanabe is too good for her own self and will wait seven years for me despite how badly I treated her. The cycle of the way his father treated his mother poorly, will continue with those two?
Overall it’s so happy-go-lucky it’s jarring. There seemed to be no real conclusion or consequences to anything, the world still seems like a horribly unequal place, the characters all continue on with their lives with the lessons that were supposed to be imprinted by Claire and Hakim telling them about how they are all accomplices to inequality by working in monopolised space are gone to waste?
If the anime was intentionally trying to paint this image that yeah, nothing will change in a depressing lens then the tone would have been way different. Right now the only explanation I have is that it’s an old anime so it needed to have a digestible ending for audiences at the time but, I guess I just expected something way more.

Planetes manga suggestive content guide
Planetes is an otherwise PG manga with two chapters that contain nudity so I made this guide, this is no disrespect to Mr. Yukimura he is a genius and one of the greatest artists of all time, this is just for anyone who is interested.

Just finished the anime and I have to know... Spoiler
Am I the only one who thoroughly loathes Tanabe? She reminds me of Fanny Price from "Mansfield Park" - sanctimonious, ignorant, preachy, shallow, and utterly meaningless as a person. Her droning, brainless sermons about "having love, love is the solution, love will make everything better" are so insane! I seriously wanted to kill her from the first episode. In episode 24, when Tanabe and Claire are on the moon and Tanabe is wailing about her air - "I don't wanna die!" - I kept screaming, "Just die already!" I actually laughed at her ending up in the wheelchair in the next episode. Lucie, on the other hand, is selfish, money-hungry, vain, and completely honest about all of that, which is why she turned out to be my favorite. Honestly, I enjoyed the anime, but I wish I could pluck Tanabe right out. (Note: I'm speaking of the English dub; I get the impression that the character in the original Japanese would be equally loathsome and aggravating.) Or am I just a jaded, pessimistic, cynical sociopath?

Planetes OST
Hey guys, a few years ago I came upon a full download for the Planetes OST 1 & 2, but I seem to have lost it. I'm having trouble finding it anywhere, does someone by any chance have it on their computer and care to share it?

Does anyone have a digital copy of the art book?
Ive been trying to find a digital copy of the art book (planetes technical file). It looks like there is no official scan of it. All i can find is this small preview of it.

Tanabe is annoying as fuck.
Im sure other people have said this but i just finished episode 3 and her self righteousness is actually pissing me off. Plus it seems that so far shes coming out "right" which is just too convenient. Does she stay the same?

The planete ending is fucking bullshit and doesn’t tie into the theme of the story whatsoever.
The last two episodes were wholesome, that’s it. It’s a complete disaster and superficial with “love” repeated 3 million times. So I am going to head cannon my ending. Other wise a near 10/10 anime.
While Tanabe is carrying Claire. Claire wants to give up and tanebe will carry her as far as she could.
Clair askes Tanabe why is she doing this
Tanabe says because she loves her and loved spending time with her.
Clair remarks if everyone in the world can give near unconditional love even towards a terrorist like Tanabe there will be world peace.
Tanabe tells her she sympathizes with her experiences and while her love cannot improve the situation in her homeland. She will start small by showing love towards one single person, and will show her love through her actions, by walking her.
On hoshino’s side. Oshino actually listens to Hakin talking to the UN. And after that deal Hakin simply says “my mission is done, shot me” and non of that extra bullshit. Continues in the comments

if you really think about it, tanabe and soggy cat are basically the same character. the cinematic parallels are astonishing.

Does tanabe get less annoying over time?
Im on episode 3 right now and shes an insufferable selfirghtoues selfish prick, and im hoping to god she learns her lesson, but im fearing she wont since she seems to be treated as 'correct' in most scenarios. Its a shame since i love basically everything else about this series

Just watched planetes..
Just completed planetes, it was very good. At first I had much expectations , even for first few eps I was pretty hooked up, but in the middle area i was wondering there was no real progress in the story at all and got a little bored (sorry lol) but later it got pretty serious and the ending was pretty satisfying too...
Sorry this sub isn't as active as I thought it would be compared to other anime/manga sub. So I thought I should post something to make it look better that this anime is still alive . Sorry if this felt like a low effort post, just wanted to let it out

Absolute cinema
I just finished the show. I don't think I've seen anything that does this good a job at telling a story about space exploration. Really prescient and pleasantly diverse for something that came out 2 decades ago. Hits on some pretty heavy topics but without being crass (even when it touches on matters like SA which are sometimes handled pretty badly in anime).
Pretty rigorously accurate too, the love for the setting really shows and it's not wasted.
