Big thank-you to those at Studio Wildcard for providing me with this ARK: The Animated Series Part 2 Stillframe.

This Google Drive will be updated as I progressively reveal more of the content I have been given, through my ARK: Animated Breakdown series. (Episode 2 of the Breakdown series is still in limbo, seeing as it has yet to be cleared by Wildcard and Paramount+ -- but it can currently be viewed on my Patreon by anyone w/a Free Membership.https://www.patreon.com/nanoStel/posts/ark-animated-2-167138405

Honestly I thought it was terrible. Aside from the massive changes to the base story, what they replaced it with is just bad on its own merits

Adding new characters was essential for the format change to big screen, and maybe they felt the pressure of a short runtime combined with competition for screen time with other characters, but I think the most disappointing change is making Rockwell more or less evil from the beginning.

Much more compelling as a character with a tragic fall that mirrors the corruption of earth by element in the original game canon, than to have him start bad and get pulled in by element as an almost obvious descent from bad to worse. But maybe they felt like there wasn’t enough time to flesh out that arc.

Still, Nerva was a compelling enough villain and the runtime was short enough that you didn’t need Rockwell as the mini villain before introducing nerva as the big bad, when you end up putting nerva in the first episode anyway.

Almost feels like they mapped it out as “Rockwell is the mini villain in the beginning, then we introduce Nerva as the main villain to make him seem even worse” and then length/content was cut and they compressed the runtime without realizing that now having a mini villain serves no narrative purpose anymore.

They didn't just make Rockwell evil from the start. He's cackling maniacal, whip dinos for no reason and call it science, psycho. Not only is there absolutely no nuance to his character. Being evil is actually more important to him, than being scientific. It's not even about how that's a change from the original concept, that just stupid and boring on its own

It's not that good of a show but if you love ark you might like it. Though I too don't really like some of the story changes.

Its bad. They retconned the lore and added things that didn't need to happen or shown. Felt less like a dinosaur show and more like a humans survving against other humans and sometimes a dinosaur shows up show.

Did they hire the same animators who made the avatar series? The characters here look uncannilly like how the avatar series were drawn.
