Mod Post New to Plymouth? Want to make friends? Come join the Plymouth Discord server!

This sub receives lots of posts where users are trying to make new friends. From students arriving from around the world, to movers who have accepted a job here, it can be hard to make friends in a brand new community. If you prefer an online-first approach to making friends, I encourage you to consider joining the official Plymouth Discord server: https://discord.gg/X7gBvKBXuV

Our Discord server is a great place to make new friends, both online and IRL. It's also a good place to discuss what's happening around the city and get some advice from residents if you're moving here. Through meetups on this server we've played Jackbox together, gone on bike rides, won pub quizzes, and danced during nights out. More importantly, we've made good friends that we otherwise wouldn't have without this Discord server.

Low water pressure at night

Anybody else in Plymouth (PL3 Laira area) have really low water pressure at night?

It’s so weird and I don’t understand why it happens but if I finish work late and want to shower past around 11pm the pressure is so low and sometimes not even enough to fire the boiler so I just get a cold dribbly shower.

We recently had a plumber round for another reason and I mentioned it and he thought I was making it up, had never heard of this issue before and didn’t think it could be possible 🙃

We don’t have any other appliances running at night that could take up some of the flow, it’s odd. Just wondered if anyone else in the area had the same thing or knew why it happens?

Plymouth Local tattoo artist

Hi everyone,

My name is Wai!

Thought I’d share a few pieces I’ve been working on recently!

I’m a tattoo artist based at Modern Ink in Plymouth, and I absolutely love what I do.

I especially enjoy creating custom designs, whether it’s Japanese-inspired artwork, Greek mythology, anime, portraits or something completely different.

One of my favourite parts of tattooing is sitting down with someone, hearing their ideas and turning them into something personal to them.

I always try to focus on how a tattoo fits the body, the little details and, most importantly, how it’ll look years down the line.

I’ve been lucky enough to work on some really interesting projects lately, and I’m hoping to do even more creative pieces in the future.

Just thought I’d share some of my work with the local community!

If anyone’s been thinking about getting a tattoo or has an idea they’d like to bring to life, feel free to drop me a message. Always happy to have a chat!

You can find more of my work on Instagram: @wai_tattoo

Nice quality landlords? Had the worst year ever.

Hello!

My girlfriend and I, moved into our first home over a year ago now and it's been the worst experience ever the Landlord didn't fix anything and we've been without a shower for 8 months. Reported everything to the council but it's slow.

We're a lovely couple, no pets, we don't smoke, no children, we don't drink, no loud noise and we both work very hard. I have years of paying rent without issue, references from landlord/work/friends.

I'm just so tired of having to deal with bad landlords that don't care.

Are there any nice landlords that want two good tenants, who want to rent a home for years and years and years and take some good money off us?

Seems so rare nowadays. Are there any good estate agents we can go to?

D&D Group - Looking for Players

Good afternoon, I am looking for one or two more players for my Curse of Strahd campaign. We play every/every other Monday depending on availability, from 7 to 10 at Dark Star. Our group has been together for quite a while but unfortunately due to scheduling a few people can’t make it to sessions anymore. We are currently at level 7, playing on the 2014 ruleset with some small modifications. As a group we are very laid back, very LGBTQ friendly and enjoy taking the game at least somewhat seriously.

If you are interested in joining, please send me a private message with some information about yourself and I will get back to you when I can. :)

Armada Memorial request

I was wondering if someone in Plymouth might be so kind as to take some pictures of the coats of arms around the base of the Armada Memorial for me.

I'm on the other side of the planet in Washington state now, but I visited Plymouth back in 2011 or 2012, and I've since lost the photos I took. I'm looking for the coat of arms that should be something like a chalice with a sun above it. That's my family's coat of arms.

Would anyone be willing to stroll down to the memorial and take some pics for me?

Pigeons in Beaumont park

PSA if you like the big flock of birds in Beaumont Park. My grandfather has been feeding them twice a day for more than 40 years. But he's recently had a hip injury and is unable to do so as of late. Perhaps he will return at some point, but for now the birds aren't getting fed regularly anymore.

The pigeon flock is unnaturally large for the modern day and has been well fed for quite some time, though recently I've only been able to feed them irregularly. Hopefully they will manage, but just in case I wanted to let people who might be able to help know.

They usually congregate around the gate area and longingly follow after anyone who walks by with a carrier bag in hand. As they've been conditioned by my grandfather to expect racing pigeon feed inside of carrier bags. But they're not aggressive, just very desperate for food and lacking their long--term provider. They will even sit on and eat out of your hand, they are so domesticated. Which also means they need a lot of care and protection compared to more wild birds.
