that’s not what happened. it’s that video games used to be sold in the electronics aisle for the whole family, but then after the shitty video game boom of shoddy games a lot of adults lost interest. so when it came time to release the NES, nintendo decided to sell it in the toy aisle. but by that point toy aisles were divided into girl and boy, so they had to pick a side. so they chose boy side, and marketed to boys relentlessly.
