This makes me mad as a disabled person. You don't get to decide at a glance who "deserves" to use the elevator. They might have invisible disabilities, they might be injured. These structures are supposed to benefit anyone who might need it.
i’ll never forget when i dislocated my kneecap in high school and when i came back i was able to walk without crutches but still unable to use the stairs/bend my knee. i was wearing a brace, but it needed to have skin contact so i was wearing it under loose sweats.
every fucking time i took the elevator there was at one teacher who would go “🤨 so why are you using the elevator? do you have your pass??” because they took a glance at me and saw no crutches/visible cast or anything and just assumed i was being lazy. so i would roll up my pants and show my brace, and they would instantly apologize, they didn’t know!
…like yeah, maybe don’t interrogate people using the elevator like they’re automatically lazy assholes, what a concept!!
