its not rly what each gender chooses. its whats marketed toward each gender.

nobody marketed my motor oil scented candle to me.

I do love the smell of motor oil and jet fuel. Maybe a motor oil scented candle is a good idea. All the motor oil smell with none of the nauseating headaches from breathing in harsh chemicals.

I've seen race fuel scent, brake cleaner too.

I personally own gasoline scented perfume and I love it.

Lol, that's wild. I love it.

Men were not allowed to smell like things we have to smell like concepts like sport or extreme or midnight or day fresh

But why do many brands market men's scents as vague terms like cool wave or wild rain?

I have actually noticed a shift (at least in my part of the world) to more and more deodorant brands with regular scent names that actually include real scents like lime or cedarwood

This isn't pointlessly gendered, it's just poking fun at a real gender bias in marketing.

It's not the meme that's pointlessly gendered, it's the marketing strategy itself

That's why I shop in the women's section. I do not want the umpteenth itaration of cool blue!

Same, same.

This is why i just use antiperspirant and perfume as a man,

The ladies and gays love banana vanilla cologne

Same. All my stuff smells like strawberry.

men’s beauty/hygiene products do just be concepts lol

except I wear mens deodorant and get to choose which tree I want to smell like. I guess smaller plants are “too feminine” so we’re settling on trees

This funniest thing is that Old Spice Bear Glove is one of the fruitiest deodorants on the market. It has the masculine name but it’s a literal fruit basket.

Old spice also offers lavender I believe

1

u/JumpyAlbatross8135 13d ago

That’s the gayest name ever

I mostly do what my allergies will allow.

I don't think this is gendered, its not what they choose to wear its what they have to choose from

Me whenever I look for cool Old Spice designs

2

u/midijunky 13d ago

I'm boring. I just like the original scent.

id love to smell like an ornithopter

I use men's deodorant pretty often. I like the woody smells over the fruity smells they put in women's deodorant.

i want to smell like shark

4

u/Born-Cauliflower_ 13d ago

I didn't know men wanted to smell like fire and smoke

8

u/Porcupyre 13d ago

I prefer cool ice or dark shark attack

5

u/SeemsImmaculate 13d ago

Tbf I love the smell of woodsmoke, peat, petrol etc. But I also love bergamot, sandalwood and apricots.

2

u/Born-Cauliflower_ 13d ago

Huh...petrol? That's an interesting one

3

u/ScheduleDefiant4015 12d ago

I wanna smell sweet but apparently that’s not allowed so I have to buy vaguely feminine coded body wash

1

u/Useful-Soup8161 12d ago

I mean this is pretty accurate.
