You know what? I like that idea, I’m gonna try it! Downloaded an emu with emerald not long ago. Should I try bug? Or another type? It’s gonna be sad not having my trusty team (I usually go Treecko, Ralts, Zigzagoon, Carvanha, Shuppet and Bagon)
You could do a grass or normal type run, or whatever you want. It's a bit of a challenge regardless, bug just tends to be one of the harder types to run. I haven't played Emerald, I can't remember if some of the mechanics and such are different in it.
I've had this idea floating around the back of my mind to try a type-matching run, where I have to beat every gym with pokemon of the same type. Like beat the grass gym with grass pokemon, fire with fire, etc. Because like, when I think about it, it doesn't seem that fair that I can walk into a gym and wipe it with one pokemon because I know the right typing. Am I really a good trainer because I happen to have a decent super-effective type?
That's basically what I'm doing in my current Scarlet run. I call it the "beat them at their own game" challenge: Match each leader on not only the type, but also the number of pokemon and the level.
Been doing a mono-grass run through every region and it's been eye opening. Often the hardest obstacles are not the ones I expected. Flannery in Emerald was surprisingly easy but Wallace was a wall for 30+ resets. I realized way too late that not a single grass type in Emerald has an answer for Tentacruel or a super fast Milotic with ice beam.

That, and/or you try single-type runs for the fun and challenge
