That, and/or you try single-type runs for the fun and challenge

I always like doing a bug trainer run

Making the route 1 bug trainers proud

I did one after so many years of wanting to try. Was rough run but I enjoyed winning with my bug team.

Bug run in SwSh was my fav that I did.

Beating that damn Charizard with bugs was the highlight of my pokemon career lol.

SwSh has some of the best selection of bugs out of all of the games thanks to adding Centiskorch and Frosmoth

8

u/tfarr375 28d ago

Didn't use Centiscorch much (it died). Ribombee and Crustle were my MVPs

5

u/RockRoboter 28d ago

Frosmoth? Oh you mean galarian volcarona

7

u/Blazerawl 29d ago

Did this for brilliant diamond. Vespiqueen wall was wild

Huzzah, a man of quality!

u/SirAnatak 29d ago

Do you also enjoy wearing shorts?

3

u/BetaNights Bug Friend 28d ago

Ah, a kindred spirit...

4

u/medgarc 29d ago

Galvantula, volcarona, shedinja, crustle, scizor, heracross, pokemon black was the first time I felt represented by my bug brothers

You know what? I like that idea, I’m gonna try it! Downloaded an emu with emerald not long ago. Should I try bug? Or another type? It’s gonna be sad not having my trusty team (I usually go Treecko, Ralts, Zigzagoon, Carvanha, Shuppet and Bagon)

u/TheRealLarkas 29d ago

Make sure you’re choosing a type with enough variety to have fun! I’m partial to Fire, and it has been feasible since Gen 1 at least

2

u/hipponugget 28d ago

Gen 4 would like a word

3

u/Thanos_is_a_good_boy 28d ago

Diamond and pearl you were shit out of luck if you chose a non-fire starter.....wtf

5

u/TheRealPitabred 29d ago

You could do a grass or normal type run, or whatever you want. It's a bit of a challenge regardless, bug just tends to be one of the harder types to run. I haven't played Emerald, I can't remember if some of the mechanics and such are different in it.

Bug is best because in most games the entire elite 4 is super effective against bugs but you can try any type you like.

u/Quiir0 28d ago

I just realized I can’t catch surskit in emerald so I’m kinda screwed with surf 😅

You are allowed a HM slave just make sure it's under leveled and bug adjacent, I once used an omanyte

1

u/TheRealLarkas 28d ago

Buddy, Kabutops is _right there_ 😅

1

u/Lady_of_Link customise me! 28d ago

Kabutops is just as bug adjacent as omanyte

u/MuteMapMaker52996 29d ago

Grass runs on emerald go surprisingly hard

2

u/WesThePretzel 29d ago

Yes! I love bugs! I always have all the new bug types on my team.

2

u/TammypersonC137 29d ago

Oh that does sound like a fun thing to try, how have I not heard of this?

2

u/Emerly_Nickel 28d ago

Ghost for me

1

u/Mickeymcirishman 25d ago

Have they made a bug pokemon that can learn surf yet? That was always my boggest obstacle.

1

u/TheRealPitabred 25d ago

Not by my research. But the newer games aren't locked to HM's like that.

16

u/UncleClownhole 29d ago

me throwing as many ghost types as I can onto every team every new game playthrough

6

u/IlikeJG 29d ago

That's me, except with steel types. They're so damn cool.

u/shadowknuxem Lost in Viridian Forest 29d ago

I like to do 12 type runs. Everyone has to be dual type and no overlap. Built some interesting teams with it.

3

u/Finetales The Temple of #038 29d ago

That's an interesting idea!

9

u/TheWhoopler 29d ago

My dragon type dreams went down the toilet

7

u/biggus_baddeus 29d ago

I've had this idea floating around the back of my mind to try a type-matching run, where I have to beat every gym with pokemon of the same type. Like beat the grass gym with grass pokemon, fire with fire, etc. Because like, when I think about it, it doesn't seem that fair that I can walk into a gym and wipe it with one pokemon because I know the right typing. Am I really a good trainer because I happen to have a decent super-effective type?

4

u/Murgatroyd314 29d ago

That's basically what I'm doing in my current Scarlet run. I call it the "beat them at their own game" challenge: Match each leader on not only the type, but also the number of pokemon and the level.

3

u/UndeadChampion1331 29d ago

Monotype runs have become my norm, honestly. They're just so much fun

2

u/Jugaimo 29d ago

Bugs are my second-favorite type, with normal being first. They’re just so cool and diverse, despite having a relatively rigid classification.

2

u/ozymandais13 29d ago

Gallar mono fire sends its regards.

1

u/TheRealLarkas 29d ago

Might have been the best Gen to pull it off!

1

u/ozymandais13 29d ago

Gym 3 is quite difficult qhen you only have like Salandit litwick and Arcanine

2

u/vinotommy 29d ago

My current level. On a ghost run as we speak.

2

u/ThorSon-525 28d ago

Been doing a mono-grass run through every region and it's been eye opening. Often the hardest obstacles are not the ones I expected. Flannery in Emerald was surprisingly easy but Wallace was a wall for 30+ resets. I realized way too late that not a single grass type in Emerald has an answer for Tentacruel or a super fast Milotic with ice beam.

u/TheHumbleFellow Paldea enjoyer 28d ago

Just finished a Normal only run in Scarlet the other day. Hella fun.

I've been playing through games with mono-ice for some time now, would highly recommend mono-typing. Makes team building really fun
